WIW 11.19-22

Well my little hard drive where I keep all my outfit photos went kaput and I'm still working on getting data off it, but I had this week saved on my computer before that so I'm able to share it! Hopefully I'll get that all sorted out this weekend.

Something Joy mentioned a couple weeks ago really struck a chord with me: "It feels like you have added an element of glamour to your style, while keeping the adventure and fun." She's spot on, and I'm glad to have that idea more crystalized. I'd actually also like to move away from primarily oversized fits to primarily tailored and fluid fits. We'll see how that actually goes, though; to do that would essentially require a wardrobe overhaul and that is a daunting (and expensive!) idea to me -_- For the week below, I was feeling a little blah and happily took inspiration from some of Angie's fabulous blog posts around the time.

#1 - Tuesday. A dry enough day to wear my baggy flares. In Angie's flared pants post, the first image caught my eye with the moto vest layered over a blouse. Mine is a different kind of kitty print ;)

#2 - Wednesday. Of course directly inspired by Angie's hoodie under a jacket post. I thought this would be waaay out of my comfort zone (I'm not even remotely sporty) but was pleasantly surprised otherwise; my hoodie is knit like sweater which probably helped with that feeling. I know the high contrast footwear won't be to everyone's taste but this was a rare occasion where I actually did feel like I needed to bookend to balance out the black on top.

#3 - Thursday. An ode to the big scarf, and a rare almost-black look; but of course I couldn't leave it without any white. Also, that top is actually subtly sparkly. First time wearing this faux fur inifinity scarf, looped around twice, which I picked up in early spring; it felt BIGGER in person than it looks in the photos but was probably somewhere in between. I figured it'd bother me but it was actually totally fine and extremely warm. I'll definitely be wearing it this season. More high contrast footwear because this is already too much black for me, but I must say I really enjoyed the finally vibe; having the scarf and the cardi near my face was a huge help.

#4 - Friday. Heavy frost, so I pulled out a favorite cold weather chunky sweater which I primarily like to wear with slim pants and tall boots. A simple fall back formula for me.

#5 - Bonus nail photos; left from outfits #1/2, and right from outfits #3/4.

Aaah! Aida, your posts are like a little jewel box of loveliness.  Not surprisingly, you look fantastic in all of these.  I think the high contrast shoes work very well throughout.  They have another large field of black or white to relate to, so they seem very natural.  And your nails are gorgeous.  (Looking down at my chipped manicure. Sigh. Do yours last more than a few days? I get two days max out of mine.)

ETA: Good to know about the SV.  I used to use that, but switched to OPI. Looks like I'll be buying some SV again soon.... :)

Thanks K! I can usually get a solid 5 days out of my nails, which I attribute almost entirely to using Seche Vite as my top coat. It also helps quite a lot to "wrap" the nail tips if you have enough length: swipe a light bit of polish along the edge so the polish wraps around the tip of your nail, and do the same with the top coat. Most often I am repainting due to nail growth rather than chipping (my nails grow ridiculously fast ><).

Oooh, really love the big, fuzzy scarf! And the hoodie under your military blazer. And the white jeans (man, I still cannot find any 100% cotton, low-rise, white, skinny jeans!), which I am envious of.

As always, you are the nail art queen!

  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago

Wow. You look stunning all the time! Oddly the high contrast footwear in #2 looks totally natural to me. It was the right choice! And that fur scarf is all kinds of wonderful on you! You really wear it well! Finally, just loving that red beret.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

    Thank you Rae and Adelfa!

Ah Rae, if you ever find those white jeans in a low rise please tell me! These are a straight leg mid-rise, a bit too long for me, but also slouchy so at least it helps with that whole thing. They're honestly a placeholder pair until that magical pair you described comes along :)

  • E replied 10 years ago

Oh fun! I love all four but omg that faux fur scarf. Definitely my favourite. :DDD And the red beret makes you look like Snow White! An urban, taking-names kind of Snow White. hehe

It seems like you have lots of glamourous footwear and coats, which must be half the battle right there. :)

Hardly a blah week from the observer's point of view! I love the white vest, the white everything, the glam scarf, and the contrasting shoes in both directions. Beautiful!

    3 and 4 - oh my!

Aida, I love that retro coat on you. Wow. You are stunning as always. And as someone who can barely keep her toes painted once per month, and I blown away that you do this nail art thing multiple times per week. How do you find the time to let the darn things DRY!?!?

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Wow - absolutely gorgeous - every one of them.  You are such style inspiration!

Especially love the fur scarf and almost black.  It makes me want to cut the faux fur lining out of my coat and make a scarf....

Gorgeous outfits, Aida. I love how you always show us different versions (i.e. coated and not) and the details.

Wasn't the hoodie under the blazer fun? I did a version, too, and surprised myself at loving it.

These are all terrific but I think my favourites are 3 and 4. I think the bookended footwear is perfect in #3.

I'm enjoying your winter style and squirreling away ideas for my next winter.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

3 and 4 have that glam thing going on that you mention via Joy.  Very nice. 1 and 2 feel more like the Aida I've always known, layered and a bit Boho.  I like both, but it is exciting to the newer direction emerge!

  • Alexandra replied 10 years ago

Beautiful! I am really loving #3 - the colors, the textures, and the shapes all work so perfectly together.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

You are gorgeous! And you rock the flares!! Your manicures are beautiful! Do you do them yourself?

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

I will be watching your style progression with great interest:). Love all of these but #3 is so gorgeous it must get a special mention. Those boots look fab, may I ask what they are, and are they booties? I just love the high contrast between the black and white, that is how I most,y wear my white booties:)

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

You are always a breath of fresh air to look at, Aida! The peek of white booties from under flared pants is just lovely. Your colour pallete this week is neutral and glamorous at the same time.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

You may not be able to overhaul your wardrobe in one go, but at least now you know what style of pieces to look for.  I think it's better to add a little at a time anyway, this way you will know when you've hit your limit for that style of item, before you own too many of them. :)  A lovely week, I like the lighter colors in each outfit, it's lovely contrasted with your darker hair.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

You are about as blah as Gwen Stefani. xo

I can't pick a favourite, Aida. You're stylish eye candy.

  • MuseumGal replied 10 years ago

Holy cow these are all amazing.  These all look like professional model shoots.

  • Angela K replied 10 years ago

You look fab in all the outfits but I must say that #3 is my personal fave. The fur scarf ROCKS! And your manis are awesome as well. I can't get polish to stay on my nails. They are way too soft but love having fun, artsy pedis that I do myself. Looking forward to seeing more of your designs to use as inspiration. Thanks for sharing! :)

Absolutely Stunning Week!  Number four makes me melt with pleasure especially since each element is something I adore on it's own but combined all together is incredible.  Thank you for sharing your gorgeous clothing personality with us, they always bring smiles to my face.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Thanks so much ladies! I didn't mean for it to sound like my outfits felt blah, it was my mood ;) I'm quite happy with the looks after getting such great inspiration from YLF! Glad to hear big love for the big scarf, I'm looking forward to wearing it a bunch now that the Picture Challenge is over.

Sarah, that Seche Vite top coat I mentioned earlier is magical! It makes the polish last longer AND dry way fast. I let them dry for 5 minutes (10 is even better) then go on with my day.

Neel, yep I do my manicures myself :)

Deborah, the cream booties were a Sears purchase several years back so unfortunately aren't available any more. I wish I'd bought two at the time!

Lisa, good point about the item oversaturation; that's part of what got me into the trouble I'm in now! I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on that this time.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Aida you are not only beautiful, but you are super talented too!  I am sure you have been told that before but worth mentioning yet again!  I love your manicures even more now :)
