WIW 11.11-15

Hi ladies, here are my work outfits from last week! Much less auto-pilot than I've been, which I had fun with. Even though I was off shopping for the last several months, I did look through the NAS goodies because I knew I'd kick myself if I didn't. The tweedy skirt in #3 is one of the few things I bought; this look from the fall shows has been stuck with me so I was delighted to find something similar although mine is much shorter, which I prefer in fall/winter anyway. I did buy a couple other things too (coat, blouse, bomber), so those will probably start popping up in outfits soon. Everything else in these are older items you've seen before :)

#1 Monday - A little black+navy, pattern mixing, and daytime shine. Plus a slouchy hat, just for fun.

#2 Tuesday - Mixing fuchsia and red. I normally wouldn't match the shoes, but was in a matchy mood that day I guess.

#3 Wednesday - A random warm day, 58F! I've pinned several outfits with this boxy-top-over-flared-skirt silhouette, and finally gave it a go. Just love how it looks with the stiffer skirt! I've also got another softer flared skirt with which I plan to sport this silhouette for the season, so hopefully it's YLF approved ^^ This outfit also accompanied me to lunch with hubby before work.

#4 Thursday - Wanted to get in some furry vest before it's too cold (this one is hard to layer once the winter coats come out); wasn't too successful over this stiff blouse unfortunately, it kept bunching up funny. I haven't worn my pendants in a looong time, but pulled out one of my favorites for this outfit. Bonus pop of neon!

#5 Friday - A color palette I'm really into for winter, and a different type of volume over slim look: BIG volume tee, lightly oversized moto, and slim pants. The jacket doesn't fully reign in the volume, but it does seem to give just enough shape.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

Love them all Aida, and your photos are beyond fantastic! I think my favorite is #5...I adore the silhouette and the blush/white/silver on you! SO fab!

  • deb replied 10 years ago

They are all wonderful. My favorite is the red jacket ensemble.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

YLF in all of these. My favourite is #5 I love the proportions & colours.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

They're all fantastic, as usual. I'm with Deb, my favourite is also #2.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Fantastic outfits. My fav is #1. Great pattern mixing, and I love a little daytime shine!

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

Ooh, I love 1 and 4. I love the black/blue combo and the slouchy hat is just so cute. Great fur vest in 4--it's dramatic and so fun. YLF in all of these though. I also think the matchy-matchy of 2 is pretty awesome. It's kind of MaryK--the bold use of color and the blazer. You can definitely wear the skater skirt--I'm not 100% sold on the white pumps but I think that's a personal allergy. Gorgeous blush/black jacket. I like how you paired it with white/silver. So nice!

How fun to see some Aida WIW's!!! I haven't been able to devote much time around YLF lately but I did miss you around here. Your outfits are fab as ever, especially love the furry vest ensemble!!! YLF!!!

All are terrific, but I am wowed by #5! Love the color, the proportions, and the bit of sparkle. Sorry, hopeless magpie here.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I love #2, #3 and #4. All killer. It's fabulously fun and unique to see you stick to your '70s style persona. I truly like that best about your style, Aida.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

So nice to enjoy your WIWs again! The peep of red toe in 2 is fun and 4 is so sumptuous woth that vest. I'm seeing 5 as holiday wear with the sparkle, heels and blush.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

My faves are 1, 4, and 5! I really adore how the furry vest matches your boots! New meaning to bookending your hair. :)

Excited to see how you wear your other NAS items!

So hard to pick a single favorite, something cool about each one. Number 4 is especially fun and the colors in number 5 look great on you!

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

Great outfits.  Like the bookending, and especially love outfit #2 with the red jacket.

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

These are all amazing - I can't pick a favorite!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Thanks for all the comments, ladies! I really appreciate them.

Kelly, hah the white pumps seem to be rather polarizing! I get all kinds of different comments about them ^^

Angie, thank you! I do fight the 70s occasionally and sneak some 80s in there (my other love), but I don't think there's any way for me to shut the 70s off entirely. I'm at a bit of a struggle for this season with it though, not much is catching my eye but I am in great need of updating many pieces :\

Pil, ooh I hadn't really thought of #5 in a holiday context but that's a great idea. I'll have to keep it in mind for upcoming events.

Rae, I picked up this bomber, blouse, wool coat, and peacoat (which might be too big, still undecided). Probably my smallest NAS haul ever ;)

I can't even begin to tell you how thrilled I am to see you post again Aida! I'm so in love with your style and just drink in the eye candy your outfits provide.

These are all fab but #5 tops them all for me :)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

I love the variety yet cohesiveness of your style Aida! Wow, not sure I can pick a favorite but the skirt totally works and I love the pants in #1.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Bookending with dark and light -- instruction manual here! :)

Seriously, though, I do envy your colouring that allows you this freedom to play in both directions! Uh...not to mention, your tall taupe boots!!

Love all of these, but #2 and #3 just wow me. Gorgeous.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Aida, I cannot say how much I missed your outfits. I am SOOOO glad you are back!!!
It is hard to pick a favorite but I would go with the last one. This blush moto has my heart every time I see it and that sequin oversized top is all kinds of awesome (and a serious top envy here)

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Love the fur vest outfit!  Unexpected color combos and yet works brilliantly well!  YLF!

  • Liz A. replied 10 years ago

So funny how the favorites are spread out.  Guess it just goes to show they're all winners.  I love 2 and 4 especially.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

These are fab!  I know you said it wasn't all that practical, but the furry vest look is my fave!  And I love the pants in #1.  Heck, I love it all!!  :)

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

I'm with MaryK.  Love it all.  So good to have you and your inimitable style back on the forum.

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

    These are a treat Aida.
Interesting pattern mixing in #1 with the chic shoes adding just the right amount of pizazz.
Matchy matchy fan here so I love the red shoes in #2.
#3 is very clever and deceptively simple. Only two pieces yet the construction of both top and skirt provide a lovely array of lines and angles.
In #4 do I spy a tiny pop of orange in the pendant too?
I love the controlled volume and drab-defying palette of #5.
    Wonderful photography too.

    You have some fabulous outfits

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

oh my, i love them all! that red blazer in #2, fab, fab, fab! and i love the way you paired it with bootcut jeans.

  • E replied 10 years ago

I'm so glad you're posting outfits again! :) I love the silhouette in 5 and the matching shoes and jacket in 2. 3 is such an interesting combination: I think it really works and now I'm tempted to start playing around with my full skirts and boxier blouses. But I had to giggle when you described 58 as warm: from my perspective in south Texas that's a rare cool day that lets me wear my woolens without having a heatstroke!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

What a treat to have you post your fabulous outfits!
I can't pick a favorite. It feels like you have added an element of glamour to your style, while keeping the adventure and fun.
1: the pattern mixing makes my heart sing as well as the black/navy colors.
2: The red jacket is stunning on you. This is a great example of PPL and bookending the jacket with red pumps.
3: young and flirty and more masterful pattern mixing, plus gorgeous white pumps. Happy *sigh*
4: Each piece shines...the cobalt silk, the delightful furry vest, gorgeous boots, adorable clutch. Fun and glam.
    5. So pretty without being saccharine. Feminine yet a bit tomboy with the black jeans. Gorgeous.

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

Another who missed your fab style Aida - love all of these but esp. #4 and then #1.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

It sounds like you added from excellent purchases from NAS.  That's when you know your style and wardrobe are set, when NAS comes along and you can be very selective and add in real key, wardrobe updating items.
#1-I may have to steal those trousers, what a fun print, yet not too crazy in color and pattern.  They look perfect for remixing with neutrals and a bright pop of color.
#2-Gorgeous mix of reds here.  How fun are those red shoes and that blazer together, a great pairing!
#3-Pretty twirly skirt.  I can't wait to see it remixed with some taller boots, fun hose and knit on top when the weather cools.
#4-Another great pairing of footwear and topper here, this time with the light boots and the light vest.
#5-Pretty mix of shapes here and clever layering.

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

YAY !!!!  It is just so wonderful to see you again. I think of you so often.

You look fantastic.  One of my all time fave color combos is navy/dark blue and black. So I LOVE the first pic.  But then I love the second and the third....LOL.  That fur vest outfit is also awesome and gives me the idea to wear mine with my light boots. I never know what to do with those boots because my hair is so dark.  But you just solved the problem.   : )

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

You know my fave is the one with the fuzzy vet. I love it when you do groovy :)

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Wow ladies, thank you all so much for the wonderful feedback! It's fun to see how varied the favorites are ^^

Suz, I looked back through all of these and thought "would it still work if I was blonde?" but I'll spare you that graphic ;) While it's true that my dark hair is helping offset the dark elements in each of these (and adds some good contrast), I think that they still would work with light hair. In #1, the hat/shirt/shoes black bookend. In #2 the red bookends, and the black from the blouse is repeated in the jacket buttons. In #3 the darker skirt is surrounded by big swathes of light. In #4 the tall boots along with the boots/vest bookending draw the eye vertically. And in #5, well that's the only one I thought might be tricky but I've a hunch the light jacket/top/shoes would be enough to offset. And I'm sure your taupe boots are just around the corner!

Mary, I think I just need to use softer blouses with the furry vest. That blue one is rather stiff so it doesn't always drape or layer well. But I do love that color combo!

Lantana, Joy, and Lisa, thank you for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it!

E, 58F in mid November is quite out of the ordinary here in the PNW! In fact, we probably won't hit that temperature again until June -_- Looking forward to seeing the results of boxy tops and full skirts experiments!

Isabel, my hair is even darker than yours and I find my light boots super versatile, perhaps even more than my dark boots. You don't need to have a huge amount of light in an outfit, either; having any light element on the top half OR showing some skin (face, forearms) is often enough additional lightness. Adding light accessories can help, too.
