WIW 11.08, 11.09

What I wore yesterday (work, then out for tacos with friends) and today (work, then monthly informal gathering for Type folk in Seattle); today's pants are brown corduroy, though it's hard to tell from the photo. Wanted to get these up before going out of town, I'm curious about what you all think of the scarf knotted as a bow :) Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome. Hope you all have a great week!

EDIT: Just realized I forgot to mirror-flip the bottom right head shot in #1 (took it in the mirror), oops!

I really like each look! I love you in the red cardigan in the first look, and I think the bow blouse and leather jacket combo is smashing. My preference is for a droopier bow (so, a smaller bow-to-tails ratio :), but that's just a matter of individual opinion.

I like all 3 outfits and love the red cardigan. The leather jacket looks good with the bow and the cords look great. Your pictures are so clear.

#1 is my favorite - I like the way you compared two opposite/high contrast colors in a very pretty, complementary way. I also really like the print on your graphic tee.
That's a clever idea to knot a scarf as a bow in lieu of a pussycat bow blouse. I've never thought of trying it that way! Nice texture on the scarf. The fringe on the scarf is throwing the look off for me just a bit, though.

Aida, I have to ask - what is Type folk? I'm curious as I've never heard of this, and my Googling efforts turned up nil.

Thanks ladies, glad the bow is going over well (I thought it was cute but wasn't too certain about how it looked with the leather).

Kari - I work with fonts. Local Seattle typographers and graphics designers interested in type get together down at Third Place Books' pub once a month (8pm tonight, if this is up your alley) to chat and share projects and whatnot. It's fun and a good way to network :) I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to make it tonight though, work is running late. Booo.

Aida, that is awesome! Somehow I missed that you design fonts.
My sister is actually a graphic designer in the area - I could totally see her getting into such a group. Last Christmas I think we gave her three different books on typeface & font designs that were on her wish list. :)
Perhaps I'll pass the info on to her for another night. Sounds like a fantastic networking opportunity & a lot of fun.
(Is it the Lake Forest Park or the Ravenna store?)

  • Aida replied 14 years ago

It's the one in Ravenna, we meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8pm. I'm a bit of an oddity in the group; I'm actually a programmer but I do a lot of design review and write lots of tools (among other things). Definitely pass the info along, always glad to have more people come :) If you want to PM me her email I can have her added to the mailing list so she gets all the reminders and the occasional discussion/event notices that pop up.

  • Kari replied 14 years ago

Sure, I'll ask her if she would like to be added to the list. I'm not sure she'd be able to make it right now given that she works and lives quite far from Ravenna, but still, wonderful information to know. Thanks, Aida!

    I love your robot pendant.

  • Sveta replied 14 years ago

I really like the pairing of red and blue in the first picture. Sorry, cannot comment on the bow scarf as I could never make myself like them (maybe too many bows in my childhood:)
    *waving to another programmer here*

I like all of these outfits - my favorite is actually the 2nd one, because I love the combination of the bow with the jacket - who would've ever thought of that???? Also, love that robot necklace - very cool. I think I've said this before, but I really like your style.

  • Aida replied 14 years ago

    Thanks for the comments!

Sveta - I wore a lot of bows as a kid too, and generally steer clear of them. I think this is the first one I've worn in years. /programmer's highfive!

Marley - I actually knotted the scarf on accident when pulling it out to wear and it was shaped like a bow so I thought, that seems fun :) Also, I'm flattered you like my style as I'm always looking forward to seeing your outfit posts!

#1 is terrific. As others have already said, the contrast and pattern are fab. The bow in #2 works but like Jonesy, I would like to see bigger loop to tail ratio. But that is just my taste. I really like that you paired it with leather.
#3 is very cute. Careful I don't steal your robot! :D

  • MsMary replied 14 years ago

I love all these, especially the fab robot pendant! I like the bow scarf -- very fun! I'm also wanting the loops a little bit bigger, but that's just a nitpick. And I'm loving the great colors in the first look!

I just love the way you dress ( I have checked out your site ). It is just so cool and relaxed. Your accessories are so wonderful !

  • Angie replied 14 years ago

You look so alive in turquoise and red. Smashing!

  • Lisa replied 14 years ago

I love the bow knot for the scarf, so fun! I never thought of doing that, thanks for the idea.
