WIW 11.05 (floral equestrian, for Una!)

Finally got a dry enough day for me to wear my new sheer floral blouse purchased at the OC meetup last month. I'm not usually big on floral prints for myself, but this one has a painterly Renaissance feel to it which I just love; plus it's got ALL of "my" colors in it, and from far away it looks somewhat nebulous.

Pairing with black bottoms is the easy option, and it does look fab that way and I'll be wearing that plenty, but for today I felt like trying it with my white slouchy skinnies which I'm still enjoying for fall. Since I'm on Team High Contrast I chose my tall black boots, which also help to balance the dark top half. The bottom half's equestrian vibe made me want to button the blouse all the way up, so I did! Added my clutch because I can't seem to stop wearing it (Note To Self: get another clutch). I feel very Modern 70s in this, as is befitting of my royal title :}

What do we think of the white jeans here? Too jarring? Appropriately unexpected? Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

EDIT: I promise this blouse is a proper length! These skinnies are all baggy and drop-crotched and whatnot. Also added a detail photo that better shows the floral, the cute little gold button at the top, and my copper stud stud earrings.

I don't think these skinnies are jarring at all but I am on team high contrast. Did you have a jacket on ? The blouse looks like it wouldn't keep you warm. Also, I love the clutch and gold watch.

Well, yay! I love it and am so glad you got it. This color combination reminds me of certain tapestries and is going to be so much fun for you to pattern mix. :)

    Thanks Mona and Una!

Mona, no jacket today, just layered over a long black tank. It was 60F out and I hate to wear coats so I avoid it as long as possible :} If it were any cooler, or if I were going to spent any significant time outside, I'd have worn my trench.

Una, yay! If I'm thinking of the same tapestries as you, I quite like them :) I've got more color-mix ideas than print-mix ideas at this point, I'll have to get more creative with that.

I think you need a much BIGGER clutch. This one looks too dainty for the outfit. I love the colors on you.

Am thinking of the tapestries that these pants Anna posted are modeled on:

I love the high contrast on you & agree it does have a painterly feel. you could wear the top with many different bottoms imo because of the colours.

I agree that this floral is your kind of floral! I seem to have white jeans demons, though... I always kind of think they look like longjohn pants. Bizarre, I know. In any case, I am loving the blouse buttoned all the way, too. :)

    Thanks for the feedback ladies!

Anna, I agree with you 100%. Now I just need to go FIND that big oversized clutch!

Rae, even with these jeans being so baggy? Those longjohn pants are pretty darn tight and stretchy ;) I get what you're saying though, it took me a loooooong time to come around to them myself.

I love the look of the white jeans with the floral sheer blouse. It keeps everything so light. Sure it's unexpected and not what every one else would do but that's why you're you and they are them.

I agree that black would have been "easy" but ho-hum I think.

Love this. The colors are glorious and I love the high contrast!

That is such a beautiful blouse. I do like the combination with the white jeans, but I would prefer a white jean made of a thicker fabric or that is not sagging as much. I admit, however, that I am quite opposed to the idea of a slouchy or saggy skinny jean and I'm definitely sitting this one out.
Overall, I still like the outfit a whole lot, I'm just microanalyzing the jeans, really!

I like the white jeans with this outfit. The contrast looks more equestrian to me. I tried on a coat with light jeans & boots tonight (posted on forum) & my husband said I looked like a country girl with horses. I had to agree & thought that the slouchy skinnies in a light color give that look with boots because I think I remember seeing horse people wear their moleskins that way.

I love this, and I love that you've worn your white denim for fall...

I like this a whole lot! I think it's great with the white, and I can also see it with coloured skinnies (as well as the expected black).

I love it - and I don't even like white jeans. But there is something about the bagginess and dropped crotch of them that really appeals to me. I think the blouse is a beautiful pattern and those tapestry printed jeans that Una posted a link to I bet would be gorgeous with the blouse!

Aida the blouse is beautiful. I like the pairing with the white jeans and black boots and I'm not sure I would have thought of that:). It is high contrast, and it's interesting (in a good way). I can see this blouse working in quite a few combinations, looking forward to seeing more of this:).

Thanks for all the comments, ladies! Glad to hear the white skinnies went over well overall, I quite liked the pairing :} I think this blouse will be challenging for me to style, in a good way, so I'm looking forward to playing with it!

Zap, I get that and appreciate the honesty! I know the slouchy skinnies aren't for everyone. I usually prefer my skinnies on the tighter side, but at this point after ongoing weight loss (and gain fluctuations) nearly all of my skinnies are slouchy heh.

Elle, when I got home my hubby asked me where my horse was. Silly husbands ;)

I love the contrast and the floral. I leave the slouchiness factor to your own comfort level. I've been leaning more toward slouchy than fitted lately (but my weight is doing the opposite of yours)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you JJ! I've been wearing slouchy things at all weight points, but certainly am feeling like that's the more modern look these days. Guess I'll count it lucky in that I don't have to replace stuff right away ;)

Oh, don't mind me and my psychosis regarding white bottoms. Have you ever seen cartoon lumberjacks/coal miners/farmers? They always seem to end up in baggy, saggy long underwear, which is where my connection comes from. A catch-22 for me, since tight white bottoms seem to be kind of a faux pas.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Hah! Yes I know what you're talking about, though for me that's gray longjohns not white hehe. You know, I wore stirrup stretch pants as a teen (yup.) in both black and especially white, and for a loooong time that's what got me about the white denim. But wearing them? Totally different beast, and that association went right out the window. I do hope my jeans look cleaner than the cartoon workers' do, though! ;)
