WIW 11.03-08

Well hello ladies, it sure has been a long time! *BIG HUGS* to everyone, I've missed you all. Long story short: I needed a fashion break, and went on auto-pilot with dressing the last 6 months. I even repeated a few outfits! (It was hard.) Luckily my wardrobe was in a good enough place, with enough fashion forward pieces, that it didn't feel like taking a step back stylistically (though certainly not a step forward) and I promise I was still representing YLF well. Maybe I'll post those outfits up sometime. It was good for me; I still managed to learn lots of things about myself and my wardrobe, and felt good enough about what I was wearing without purchasing anything new or following any particular trends beyond what I'd wanted to at the start of spring. But enough about that, a month ago I started feeling the fun return so here I am :D

And here's what I wore over the week! #1 was for a birthday dinner outing for my brother-in-law. #2-5 are work outfits. Special note for #4 which I also wore to a trunk show (my first!) with a friend who knows the designer, which was a lot of fun; the brand is "Lu." (it was the debut of the line) and I bought an interesting blouse which will pop up in a WIW soon I'm sure. Also that top has sparkly threads, though you can't tell in the photos. And the booties in #2 looked much more dramatic when not flanked by giant maple leaves of the same colors ^^ Nothing super fancy or different or experimental here, and these are all pieces you might remember from before.

Aida!! I'm so happy to see you. All if your outfits are gorgeous-you have a unique flair.

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

Oh my : its so good to see you. I was just thinking of you last week! #3 is absolute perfection. The rest are also Aida-tastic as well.

    Glad you are back!

  • MuseumGal replied 10 years ago

Holy smokes, these are stunning, as are you!

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Aida, it's great to see you. I've been mostly MIA myself, as things have been crazy with work. So, no worries there, of course. Everyone needs to do what she needs to do.

I have to say, you are particularly striking in that white trench. Wow. And of course everything else looks super fab, too.

  • Krista replied 10 years ago

Nice to see you, Aida! These are all fab, but #1 is my fave. Stunning!

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

This is the time when I remember one of my favourite lines form one of my favourite movies "Singles"

    What took you so long?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Squee!! It is so nice to see you again! And of course you look stunning in everything. I have been on the forum less these days, too, but totally missed you at Shoptoberfest. I have long regretted passing up those Matisse booties... sigh.

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

I also was thinking about you the other day.  So glad to see you posting.  #5 gets my love.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

I have missed your posts. You always look so good. Welcome back!

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

Wow!  Love all of the outfits.  Nice to see you back again.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Aida!  How I've missed you and your lovely inspiring style and wisdom!  You look every bit as fab as you always have.  Can't wait to catch up and see more of you...

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Aida!  I was just thinking about you earlier this week, and missing you being on the forum!  I'm so happy you're back, and my word, you look amazing.  I love all these looks - especially #1 and #5.  And the tomato with citron blew me away.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Aida, we have missed you! And wow, no wonder. If this is "taking a style break" I think I need some of that tea you are pouring!

I am so in love with that sweater in #1. And I know you've told us what the boots are (are they Ms. Mooz) but as I hunt in vain for nice taupe boots my ebay eye is wondering about those....

#3 totally wows me. And #5 is like a gorgeous tribute to Angie.

  • peacechick replied 10 years ago

You look so stylish! Look #1 is just perfect from the bib necklace down to the boots.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Ohh ladies, thank you for all the sweet comments! I want to just hug each and every one of you ^^

Angie, thank you very much. I did keep up with my daily outfit photos, because I didn't want to regress after working so hard for so long; whenever I found it hard to smile for them, I thought about YLF and that always made it easy again <3

Rae, yes I really missed you gals too! I wish I had been able to finagle a way to make it but alas it was not so. Next Shoptoberfest for sure though! (Or quite possibly sooner, if hubby and I can free up some time to catch a ballgame...)

Suz, the boots are indeed Miz Mooz in the style "Flynn". What is your calf measurement? I think mine are around 14" and they are just the slightest bit large on me. They have a nice little elastic dart that should make them work for a larger calf, too. If that measurement lines up I hope you can find a pair, I really love them! And yes I can share some of that tea ;) These outfits aren't as auto-pilot as previous months, but I have to say YLF has trained me well and even on auto-pilot I did manage to feel quite fab.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I missed you, girl! It is so nice to see your outfits again.
I am totally in love with #1. The sweater is awesome and I especially like the light tall boots with black and white. And of course the white trench! I want one too!
I hope you came back for good and won't disappear again! :-)

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

AIDA!!  Missed you so much!!  Love the outfits!!  Welcome back times a million!!!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Welcome back, Aida!  You're looking fresh and fab, as always.

#1 is a special favorite for me --- such a great use of neutral "color" and texture.  The trench lights you up!

I've also got an eye for the last look --- one of my favorite color combinations.  Thanks for reminding me that, although it's fun to bookend hair, even brunettes can wear light boots!

  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago

I missed you too! You look great in everything. The outfit that speaks to me most is #1 because I'm trying to learn how to mix neutrals in a sophisticated way. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

It is so nice to have your fabness back Aida.  Love the boots and mix of neutrals in 1 and the color of the jacket in #3 is outstanding.  Outfit #5 is super cool and that color is also stunning on you.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

SO glad to have you back! Ah, #1 is killer, killer killer -- try not to hurt anybody.

  • qfbrenda replied 10 years ago

It's so great to see you again!!  I've missed you.  :)  Your pics are amazing, as always.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

Aida!!!!!!  So good to see you here again.  I've missed seeing your amazing outfits.  As usual, these are all amazing.  #1 and #3 are my favorites.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Welcome back!  It's lovely to see your outfits again.  #1 is super, I like how the light boots tie in the lighter top.  But #3 took my breath away!  I'm not sure if it's the red jacket, or the wider trousers, or both just paired together, but that is a stunning look!

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

    Welcome back Aida!
In love with the sweater-blouse in pic #1 too. (And everything else is FAB!)

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

So great to see you again! I've missed your outfits. My favourites here are #1 and #3.

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Hi Aida, I joined while you were "sleeping."  Nice to see you! You look so much like my friend Lorenza I'm going to have to show her your pics. I LOVE these outfits, esp the last with the white boots w white jeans.  Lordy how can I copy that? It would be a risk for me but I like how Angie works her white shoes too.

    Love the white trench!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Welcome back Aida! It is wonderful to see you and your gorgeous outfits again! I love all five so I have nothing useful to say and cannot even pick a favorite, maybe next time (hint)!

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

So glad to see you back - I'd been thinking I missed you!
#1 is my absolute favorite! LOVE it all. You look amazing. I must have the booties in #2 please.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Welcome back! Your outfits are all fab (as always). What color are the boots in #1? They look gray on my screen, but I am thinking I've seen them before and you mentioned they were a light brown color. I also love your white jeans in the last pic, what is the brand? I just bought a pair of J.Crew matchsticks, not sure if I'm keeping them or not.

  • Elly replied 10 years ago

Welcome back Aida! You look smashing in outfit one, in particular.

  • Vix replied 10 years ago

Welcome back, Aida! Hope we get to see/hear more.

If I *have* to pick a favorite, it's the cerulean blue and white outfit as it just makes me happy to look at the way you've pulled everything together. Thanks for the variety in your show and tell!

  • replied 10 years ago

Welcome back! Great to see you again. Your outfits have once again hit all the right notes. You're looking fab! #1 and #5 are my personal faves, though all are just gorgeous.

  • Shirley replied 10 years ago

The birthday part outfit is my favorite.  It is very festive and fresh.

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

    I like #1 and #3. Welcome back.

  • cherylynne replied 10 years ago

This is great stuff! I'm starting a new job with a casual Friday approach all week and I need tons of inspiration. These are all right on.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Aida, your white trench is beautifull, and I like all your oufits! Of course you have had beautifully represented YLF still along those 6 months of your not so fashion inspired phase of your  life-you have a great natural style! Happy to see you post again:-)

  • Sharon replied 10 years ago

So happy to see you back! I've always enjoyed your outfit posts. You've still got it!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

I kept wondering where you were!  I am glad to hear you are well, and that it was just a break from fashion that "ailed" you -- not anything more serious.  I totally get where you are coming from; I find myself wanting to dress in FFBOs yet feeling I need to apologize for these outfits, or analyze this urge.  Yet, there is nothing wrong with NOT wanting to think so hard about outfit creation.  Or simply, feeling comfortable with a look that blends in / stands out less.

You're looking really good in all of these Aida.  My favorites are 1 and 3.  The pants in #3 are so PPP I can barely stand it.  I seem to never be able to achieve that .5" of perfection.  And the top in #1 looks super-on trend to me but not in a fashion victim way.  I have been eyeing a Marc by Marc Jacobs sweater that resembles yours.  (Seeds of the enable plant were just sown...)

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

How wonderful to see you Aida.  I missed you.  Glad you are well.  Lovely outfits as always.  #1 is to die for.  Love it.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

Big hugs right back at you, Aida! You are looking as fab as ever. I was just thinking about you the other day and am so glad to see you post again. Every one of these is just gorgeous--I love you in the Flynns and the trousers with the red jacket. SO Aida and so pretty!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Looking smart as always! The necklace in #1 is gorgeous. Love it!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

WOW ladies, thank you all so much for the comments! I am just floored. Happy to hear lots of love for #1 and #3 ^^

Beth Ann, I actually like wearing light footwear even more than dark footwear!

Karymk, nice to meet you! Looking forward to getting to know more about you and your style. How fun that I look like someone you know, I never hear that I look like anyone :D

Karie, the boots in #1 are taupe though they photograph fairly gray whenever I take indoor photos for some reason. The white jeans are KUT Dianas from a year or two ago; the denim is a nice heavier weight, though I do wish I had them in a size smaller (this pair is rather slouchy). I'd be curious to try the JCrew Matchsticks myself. (PS: we took your rec for the Ketchikan float plane tour and it was awesome!!)

Cherylynne, my work is very casual without a real dress code, so I generally try to go with creative business casual with some smart casual sprinkled in. Sounds like we'll be able to get inspiration from each other :)

Denise, oh I so hear you! You know, I do think that those FFBOs and simpler outfits are worth posting; I always love seeing the casual stuff, because sometimes it feels harder to be really stylish in those casual or over-simplified outfits. For the PPL, my trick is that I actually wear my long pants a little too long. I like the look of a little bit of pooling, so all of my long pants tend to be 1/4-1/2" beyond floor length. The fabric has to have a good drape for this to work though, or else the break will look odd; you also have to be OK with your hems, literally, sweeping the floor.

  • replied 10 years ago

A BIG welcome back!  I've missed your posts, you're looking as FAB as ever.  The white jeans outfit made my heart skip a couple beats.

  • cheryl replied 10 years ago

I have missed you! You look amazing and haven't lost your touch at all ;)

  • Kyle replied 10 years ago

Aida, you are a sight for sore eyes, indeed. You've certainly not skipped a beat, fashion-wise. What a wonderful series of outfits. It IS difficult to pick a favorite. Love the white jeans, especially, though.

  • replied 10 years ago

Oh my, but that white trench is just stunning on you. Loving the red moto as well. I'm so glad you're back. I swear you could be in a coma for years and just roll right out of it looking this fab. Kudos! There is certainly no time warp apparent in your wonderful wardrobe. ;)

  • pil replied 10 years ago

AIDA (yes, I'm yelling :) ) so good to see you again! Gosh, these are gorgous - right where you left off!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Oh dear god!  You are rocking every outfit!!!  You look stunning and I can't pick a favorite!!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Thank you very much, ladies! :D

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

A-I-DA!!!!!!  You're back!!!!!  Oh my gosh - I've missed you - and Shopterberfest just wasn't the same without you this year!  (Still, gobs of fun though - but I didn't have my own "personal" shopper helping me find things :-)
I'm so glad that you are OK - and that you're going to be back on the forum more often now!  I completely "get" your need to take a break from fashion for awhile and just float on your FFBO - and, because you'd already put in the work, I bet it was just a lot of fun to not think much and still know that you were looking FAB.
OK - on to your outfits.  I love all of them.  But - first a question (actually 2 questions) :  1)  What is that cool clutch that you are carrying? - and is that neon green that I see running through it? 2) What is the white - is it white? - trench?  So beautiful!
I really love #1 - in fact the top that you are wearing is very, very similar to a Theory top that I bought over Shoptoberfest weekend - the only difference I see is that you have knitted cuffs, and mine just continues with the silk sleeves and has a button cuff.  I love the neutral mix in this outfit - Angie has really influenced me in that regard.  Also, the orange jacket in #3 is such a gorgeous color on you - and the trousers have such a nice fluidity to them.  Also - love #5 - because the color combination just makes me smile, as do those booties!
I am hoping that posting your outfits will become a habit for you again because they are so inspirational!  Welcome Back!

  • RoseandJoan replied 10 years ago

Aida, it is great to have you back.

It is good to take a pause every now and then when it comes to style. I'm glad you are feeling reinvigorated.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

    Thank you Marley and Jules!

Marley, you're right it was definitely easier to feel content with dressing since my wardrobe was in a good place, though I did discover some things I need to work on that I had been neglecting. Good eye on the clutch, that is indeed neon lime painted onto the black leather; it has a fun little wood ball on the zipper too. I bought it last winter from Nordstrom over in BP on super sale, I'll have to check the brand when I get home from work. The cream trench is from Banana Republic this spring, you can see the color difference more clearly in the last outfit where my jeans are optic white. I have two BR trenches (black and cream) and am very happy with them. Looking forward to seeing your silk/knit sweater, it sounds lovely! Sorry I wasn't there to help shop down in CA this year, but I'm definitely on making it next year :D

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

Nice to see you again, Aida! I've missed your thoughtful, detailed and interesting comments and posts. My favorite this time is the first outfit. I love these light colors on you.
