WIW 10.22 [slouchy with mid-calf boots]

I really enjoyed the visuals in Angie's post on mid-calf boots this morning. In addition to these new cognac boots I have one other black mid-calf boot (also slouchy), in previous seasons worn with skinnies or with shorter skirts. Today I went a totally different direction, both from the post and how I'd previously worn mid-calf boots, and tried pairing with slouchy pants. I think it turned out fun, and am pleased to have an option which tones down the "flower pot" effect of these boots for whenever the mood hits.

Didn't want a fully slouchy look, though it did rather end up that way, so I chose my sleeveless turtleneck (which I've now worn every week since purchasing!) and popped a tonal jacket overtop. Pink lipstick and earrings for a little girlish touch, and black clutch because I liked having that little extra black element both with (cami) and without (clutch) the topper. I do prefer the look sans topper because it's got more structure that way. Luckily it's one of those in-between temperature sort of days so I've really only needed the jacket while out walking and in the evening.

Newer: sweater, pants, boots, earrings, sunnies
  Older: clutch, jacket

No wonder you wear the sweater so often, it's beautiful! This is another great outfit - just the right amount of slouch. I'm going to have to get out my slouchy mid calf boots and try this look!

Wow...you look great! No wonder you love this combo so much!

I like the slight slouch of these pants with the boots - the effect is relaxed and casual. Yet the fitted tunic sweater and jacket on top provide sufficient structure. I really really like this idea for slouchy boots; sometimes they don't look too great pulled over skinnies. Thanks for this, Aida. YLF!

Now this is interesting - I find this somehow makes your legs look long. The top is not tucked, the tones are not especially tonal - do I need more coffee? Anyway, I love that top on you and am glad you wear it frequently and you look gorgeous as ever!

It's fun to wear the heck out of new things, isn't it? What a great outfit. I like it best with the jacket, perhaps for balance with the boots. That new top is fantastic on you--I can see why you're enjoying it!

Not sure I can express what I was going to say any better than Shevia :).

This is fun. It has sort of a futuristic rebel soldier vibe, but the orange sweater brings it back down to earth. Bet you don't hear that often!

Brilliant layering!  I like it with and without the jacket because with, it looks genius from the back.

The pants worn with the boots this way (and the aviators) gives the outfit a military vibe (which I like). Makes me think of slouchy military fatigues and combat boots. But here you've given it a feminine twist by the fact that the boots are suede and have heels, and of course by the orange top. Looks great :)

    Stunning! Color on you! Love!

Aha Brooklyn got my thought down.  I was trying to figure out what the outfit reminded me of and it is a military style.  I don't think it should work but it absolutely does.  I think you are one of the most inventive and innovative dressers here Aida.  The combinations you come up with are so interesting and always have balance.

I was reading Angie's piece on mid calf boots to see how they would work with a slouchy pants outfit. Your look is a great example of how to make it work. I love your color combination and the sweater too. Boot shopping in my future. Thank you!

Breathtakingly cool outfit. Color, lines, silhouette, texture, mix of sharp edges and some slouch. Wow.

I really like the slouchy military vibe too, Aida. And the colors here are fantastic on you.

    OMGosh...stunning says it all !!!

Super cute and Genie Chic. You LOVE your new modern orange twinset don't you! It's a killer combination. I love it on you too.

Thanks ladies! I must say I was quite surprised to hear that this reads as having a military vibe from so many of you, since I didn't feel that at all. But I can see the links. Military style is not currently an aspiration, so I suppose in the future I will have to give outfits featuring these pants an extra look-over. But as long as I don't feel it, if they come across as military-lite or militaryish-but-pretty-and-soft I will try not to worry about it  :)

Maneera, hmm all of the pieces in this look are actually oversized. For some reason slouchiness always photographs as significantly less. Now I am curious if this outfit would read the same in person -- I certainly felt very slouchy in it!

Jaime and Elizabeth, yes I agree! The lengthening effect does rather seem like it shouldn't happen and it's definitely not just a camera trick; it felt that way in person too. Perhaps because all of the "long" pieces are at their shortest lengths to still be considered those long things, i.e. the tunic is short but still a tunic, and the boots juuuust barely qualify as mid-calf. I suspect that if I were taller I'd want the more conventional lengths of those things to achieve the same sort of balance. Also, the cognac and orange do bookend to degree.

Cheryle, thank you for your especially gracious comment.

Angie, woo for Genie Chic! I like that quite a lot. My sis said it looked very Link (from the Zelda video games), which I wholly take as a compliment -- I've been Link for several Halloweens in the past! ^^

Aida, I love this on you, but you have a knack for making things work that ordinary mortals could not manage! What a workhorse that sweater is turning out to be.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Hah! I feel pretty mortal ;) Thanks Una <3

  • celia replied 8 years ago

You have been rocking that sweater in so many gorgeous outfits while I haven't been able to do a single outfit with mine :0)
This is a very unexpected ( for me ) combination but wildly attractive to the eye. As Una says you can do wondrous things.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks Celia. You haven't worn yours yet? Get cracking! I vote with skinnies and flats or booties for starters :)
