WIW 10.20,21,27,29 ; 11.03,04 (casual weekend looks)

Since I'm a bit behind in my outfit posts I thought I'd lump a bunch of casual weekend looks from the past few weeks together! Weekend reflection: I've been working on simplifying my weekend outfits even further recently. With 99% of my life being casual and since I essentially work from home, over the last few months I have been enjoying dividing my work outfits into "smart casual with the occasional business casual" and weekend outfits into "casual with the occasional smart casual". I don't stick to it super rigidly but it definitely helps me feel more cohesive in what I'm wearing, especially since I've also split my style preferences along too (more urban/70s glam during the week, and more boho/rugged for the weekend).

Chatty as usual, feel free to skip down to the photos :)

  1. Saturday, 10.20. A day out with friends: Endurocross competition (dirt biking), dinner, drinks & darts. Needed something very casual for the enduro event, and shoes I could walk/stand around all day in. In retrospect I'd swap the trousers out for my black jeans. I hadn't road tested these new boots out and risked them for the day, luckily they turned out to be awesome. I didn't wear this very much without the jacket, but when I did I got a lot of attention from drunk Canadians enduro guys at the bar ;)
  2. Sunday, 10.21. Another day with friends: breakfast, pumpkin patch, and pumpkin carving party with the traditional carving movie "Repo! The Genetic Opera" (oh yes). I knew the patch would be MUDDY, so I formed this outfit around items I care least about on the bottom half: my riding boots, and straight leg blue jeans. Puffer for warmth, because it was Just That Cold.
  3. Bonus photo of my finished pumpkin, who is QUITE large. Rawr!
  4. Saturday, 10.27. My sister's birthday, and she asked me to help her study for her midterms. Wanted to try olive+olive with these boots, and my favorite thing to pair with olive is black; added the sweater because I knew it'd be cold where we were studying. Perhaps a bit grungier than you guys have seen me wear, but I did do the grunge thing years ago and feel quite at home with the style (I do realize this isn't all that gritty, but what can I say I'm still just 50-50 RATE-POP ^^).
  5. Monday, 10.29. Was supposed to help my sis study more, but she skipped out so I ran some errands. Jayne had commented on pairing forest green+emerald sometime back and it's been stuck in my head ever since, so I thought I'd give it a go. These cute gold slipper flats are a very belated birthday gift from my sis that I just couldn't wait to wear! I fully expect to wear them ALL the time this spring and summer. I'm quite happy with this color palette, Autumnally moody yet bright.
  6. Saturday, 11.03 (daytime). Worn out to breakfast, then run some errands with hubby. I don't wear this cabled cardigan much, but I especially enjoy wearing it as a sweater and popping something bright underneath; this orange striped tee is a favorite combo. In the evening we went to a swanky steak place for my brother-in-law's birthday so I changed, will post that outfit later.
  7. Sunday, 11.04. Had a friend over to watch football, so I opted for extra casual and cozy with an oversized sweater and colorful skinnies. Barely even did my hair ;) Easy peasy!

You look relaxed, casual & stylish - can't get any better than that so no suggestions. I love them all. Favourites are #1 #5 & #6. The colours in #5 are drool worthy.

  • Asingh replied 11 years ago

Aids, I like all the outfits but no. 4, 5 and 7 are my favourite. Also, I've been thinking of buying another pair of coloured bottoms (the only pair I have are burgundy and I love them) and your green ones are making me think I want green.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Great outfits, Aida, and I am really glad to see you post your more casual looks. I was very interested in your decision to mark off weekends a little bit sartorially. Do you think it has positive psychological effects? I haven't really tried that but as someone who also works primarily from home it might be a useful idea for me, as well. I can see how it would give one the sense that weekends were...well...WEEKENDS!!

As always I appreciate your attention to detail. Love the red bag in #2 with the white and black and I especially love #5. Gorgeous colours!!

PS Ignore drunk Canadians, is my advice. They are the worst kind! ;-)

  • Astrid replied 11 years ago

Love it all, but my favourites are #1, #5 and #6. The first outfit is just rockin' and I love the unexpected bright red bag with it. The color combo in #5 is awesome and I really like the cardigan as a sweater look in #6. I might need a cable cardigan like that too.

  • pil replied 11 years ago

You sure know how to wear a pair of boots! I love them all too, but find myself drawn to the bright colors in #1, #2 and #6.

  • missvee replied 11 years ago

These are all good looks. I particularly like the colour mixing in #5, and the red handbag. You really have a good handle on your style and what suits your body. Thanks for posting!

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

Your outfits are always cute, creatively put together and fun to look at.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Love, love, love every outfit! and the fierce pumpkin. The forest/emerald combo really blew me away. The colors are especially amazing on you. If I had the pieces I'd try to copy #6, grey with the pop of orange. Yum.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

As always, love everything! I find your casual weekend outfits extremely inspiring - I'm always trying to figure out what to wear and how to do the casual thing. I don't know why I have such a mind block when it comes to weekend wear - these outfits provide much inspiration for me so thanks!

Totally in love with your scarf in #5 - do mind letting me know where this is from?

P.S. Your pumpkin is killer if I may say so!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

I love these all but they grey on grey of #6 with the pop of orange is amazing! :-)

  • replied 11 years ago

Wait, one of these is supposed to be grunge? They all look great to me, and I love the job you did on that pumpkin. You're so artistic AND technical at the same time. And you do some great photography.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Looooove your riding boots!! SO cool. And your white jacket. And your emerald jeans. And the pumpkin! And your poses. I'm gonna have to study these outdoor, relaxed, natural poses of yours.

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

All are great outfits! It's funny, but I always pictured you as tall, until I saw you in the meet-up photos. :-)

  • Anne Boleyn replied 11 years ago

All are great but #6 is amazing! the peek of orange from behind the grey is so cool.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Aida, these are fantastic. I'm glad to see the boots from CA come out to play! I love your grey and peek of bright! And that's some haute grunge styling...

Fab pumpkin! We saw lots of puking pumpkins on our Halloween trek, yuk.

  • pastrygirl replied 11 years ago

Love all these looks! You look so put together, yet still comfy. One of my main style goals!

I'd also love to know where the scarf is from. I'd love to add it to my birthday wish list!

  • JR replied 11 years ago

    Taking notes. :o)

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

I don't have time to comment much, but

    OMG

    number 1, number 1.... I faint...

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

You have such flair for fashion, Aida, I always love your outfit posts (haven't had much time to comment lately, but I do always look at your posts:-)
This is another great set. My favourites are outfit 1, I love the brown, black and taupish grey together, this look accentuates the colour of your hair so beautifully (love the shorter do by the way), and outfit 5. The ton-sur-ton with the forest green and emerald is fantastic, and that fab scarf works so well with this look. (love it that it's an animal print with red in it).

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks for all the lovely and insightful comments, ladies :D And I'm very happy to hear that my casual weekend outfits resonate with many of you, I am feeling a lot better about them these days.

Asingh, green jeans are surprisingly versatile! I have red and green, and the green gets a LOT more wear for sure.

Suz, in short YES it has made a HUGE difference for me. Longer: I think it's due to a couple of reasons. 1) Simply "feeling" like there's a weekend; 2) Makes me feel less schizophrenic about my style during the course of the week; 3) Hubby hates to wait for me to get ready (I'm really slow ><) and prefers a much girlier/sportier/not-layered look than I do, so these tend sit a bit better with him which in turn keeps me from getting too stressed out about dressing on the weekend; 4) I always feel appropriate for our predominantly very casual weekend activities, and if there's a need to dress up? Well I've got plenty of that in my closet, too. It has been just night and day, really. I absolutely plan to continue with it and hone the two styles further. PS: The bar guys were actually all very cordial and polite, but it did make me wonder why it was only the Canadians ;)

Astrid, I find that using my cardigans like sweaters is really the only way I wear them these days. I bet you could rock a cabled one like this!

Shannon and Pastrygirl, I wish I had a better answer for you on the scarf but I got it from Fred Meyer (Kroger) while grocery shopping!

Claire and Una, you got me! Even back in the 90s during my legit grunge era, I wasn't all that grungy. My flannels were neon, my work shirts in bright bright colors, I wore more trousers than denim, and my combat boots were patent with neon laces 0:) At least I'm consistent!

Inge, thank you for your sweet and detailed comment! I miss seeing your elegant and amazing outfits, but I understand begin busy :) I don't think I could've designed a better scarf for me, black/white leopard with burgundy plaid! Someone was reading my mind, clearly.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

It was the Canadians because Canadians have better taste.

    Ahem.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Those slipper flats are so divine! PERFECT for a Seattle Summer - you know how cold it is in Spring so I dare not say a Seattle Spring :(

I'm loving the baggier jeans tucked into all the boots. Such a K-word worthy look! I'm going with #7 as my fave because I know that you and your sis share a special bond - and she gave you those flats. So the outfit pulls more at my heart strings.

(Did it get cold today or what?)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Hah JR! Where I live, that's probably entirely true :)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    HAHAHAHA!!!!

We posted at the same time. Cracks me up.

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

#1 - WOWZA - I love this. In fact, I think this is going to be one of my "blog inspiration" outfits for next week's exercise. Also, the green in #4 is such a great color for you! I like all of these outfits actually - and as I've said before, you're hair looks so gorgeous on you! What is the pendant in #1?

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oh Angie I was posting at the same time! I can break out flats sans hose once we're at 60F, but well you know it takes forever to get there; I should probably have said LATE spring, hehe. I'm glad the baggier jeans tucked into the boots work, since nearly all of my jeans are just that way now (though the pair in #2 are borderline BF big now)! My sis and I went through a LOT of shoes before we found the perfect pair, and I am super super happy with them :D

(It's WAY cold today, what happened??)

  • JR replied 11 years ago

I have never been in your neck of the woods, on either side of the border, so I can't comment on that. ;o)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

(Angie, we did it again! *giggle*)

Thank you Marley! I am so tickled that you'd pick one of my outfits for the blogger challenge ^^ The owl pendant in #1 is from Forever 21, while down in OC actually! Kari also bought it.

JR, well you can trust me on the "my area" bit anyway!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

(I think Winter is here. My car was all iced up this morning).

VERY late Spring if we are lucky. Tell sis I love those flats!!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

My car too! I suppose I should put my trench away and get out the big wool coats; it's supposed to get below freezing the next couple of nights! I will tell sis you love them, she will be excited to hear (also me too ^^)! I think I influenced her on them too, because she just bought herself this pair and she's not usually a sparkle gal: http://www.shoes.com/en-US/Pro.....azzle.aspx

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    HAHAHAHA!!! Yes we did.

ohhh! I love the flats sis bought too :)

I did not wear a wool coat today and I was MISERABLE out and about. I am soooooo bundling up tomorrow when I am downtown all day shopping with a client.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

I needed to bundle up for my short walk to the car, I can't imagine how cold you were today without a wool coat! I pulled out the gloves and everything, brr :)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    Exactly. VERY SILLY ANGIE :(

  • Stargirl replied 11 years ago

You've got a great laid back style. I LOVE those boots in 1 & 4

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks Stargirl! I have been enjoying these combat boots after not wearing the style for many years :)

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Great outfits as expected. I love #5 and this may be influenced by my love of the slipper flats. I will read the comments more carefully to see if they are discussed!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks Shevia! The flats are by Fossil, though I'm not sure if you can get them over in Israel. Super comfortable, true to size, roomy toe box. Here's the link just in case! http://www.fossil.com/en_US/sh.....ash+loafer

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Thank you for sharing these outfits, Aida. What a treat to see you in #1 and the gold flats are super fab. Also, I love your straight shoulders. Mine are narrow and sloping.

  • pastrygirl replied 11 years ago

It didn't completely register that you wore the cardigan as a sweater. I subconsciously have been doing that lately, but I always have to cover with a scarf because I've bought all my cardigans smaller so they don't look frumpy when worn open. I'll have to think about bigger sizes now because I love the look!

  • replied 11 years ago

You have an amazing style and a very versatile closet to go with it. These series are no exception. There are lots of inspiration here for me, in terms of layering and color combinations. Do you have an opportunity to wear more business casual outfits, ever? I'd love to see your take on that. I can use some inspiration! The layering is divine. I struggle to find items that just drape. My body refuses to cooperate and the fabric just curves with 'da curves... sight:( Here is the desire to keep on trying!

How do you describe your style? I see lots of urban influences paired with color and a bit of boho. That is very unique and different, in a very good way.

  • replied 11 years ago

I love 6 the best of all of these. I also love the jeans tucked into the boots looks. Lots of great inspiration here.

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

These are some great casual outfits.
My favorite is #1. I just LOVE those new boots!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

I just love your outfits, comfy, cool and so stylish. 4 and 5 are my faves! I love the soft blend of colors in 4. And the mix of greens in 5 is so pretty with your scarf. And your boots, are killer.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thank you ladies! :D

Mona, thanks for the compliment on my shoulders. They cause me so much trouble while shopping, that I tend to take them for granted <3

Pastrygirl, this seems to be the only way I wear any of my cardigans any more, since I bat for Team Jacket. I just treat them as a knitted button-up shirt (that can be layered with another button-up shirt ;) ).

Zap, you described my style pretty much how I would (woohoo!): primarily urban+color, with a smattering of Euro-chic, strong 70s influences, and a healthy dose of West Coast punk rock. That's the goal, anyway ;) I don't have much opportunity to wear proper Business Casual, I only _really need_ to for the very occasional meeting or conference. But it does make me feel more worky so for my work outfits I've been trying to have at least 1-2 days without denim, though those skew Business Creative Casual. I think a lot of my normal Smart Casual workwear could be workified if the jeans were swapped for trousers. If you 'd like I'd be happy to pop through my archives and post some of my properly Business Creative Casual outfits for you, they're fairly scattered hehe

  • replied 11 years ago

Oh, I'd love to see a selection, if it is not too much work, of course. Thank you so much for offering! I am glad I did not massacre your style definition lol.

  • ritu replied 11 years ago

    I like 4, 5 & 7, fab dresses.
