WIW 10.19-21,25,26 Dress the Decade edition

This was a fun challenge! My contributions were a bit scattered, but I've organized them here chronologically by decade. I was trying to make outfits that I could wear to work and feel somewhat modern/not come across as too costume-y, yet still fit with my style; I think the 60s-80s were successful in this, 40s was close, 50s not at all because it's completely not my style (but would've been close with different hair).

  1. 1930s/40s (discussed here). Worn to work, out for sushi.
  2. 1950s (discussed here). Worn to work, grocery store. EDIT: Have to admit that this look grew on me over the day, but I still would have much preferred it with the hair in #6.
  3. 1960s (discussed here). Worn to work, grocery store.
  4. 1970s (discussed here). Worn to work.
  5. 1980s (discussed here). Worn to work, date night dinner.
  6. How I SHOULD have done my hair on the 50s day *sigh* The other hair makes that outfit a miss for me, THIS hair makes it a hit.
  7. My REAL 80s outfit :D (discussed here)

Ahhhh! What incredible work and photography! I'm on the way out the door with fam for hubby's birthday dinner or I would wax on and on poetic! So incredible Aida! You would have shone in any decade you were born in...but the 80's are the best, of course! Miss you roomie!

You look great in red especially with your dark hair and light complexion. The outfits #2, 5 and 6 look great. I like #1 too.

OMG! These are all so fab, and the ponytail in #6 is just spectacular!!!

Haha! Love seeing all the outfits together like this! I adore #1 and may have reasonable approximations of enough items to copycat. The Real 80s outfit is testament to Angie's Adage that the right hair style will make your wardrobe click!

You are such a creative dresser and have such a great sense of style. I LOVE your photo collages--they are works of art! I can't pick a fave but think you did an amazing job dressing the decades. The 60's is such a great interpretation as is the strong shoulder of the 80's. Aida, you rock every decade!

Gee, Aida, you might want to wear pencil skirts more often. This whole outfit speaks to me. Very flattering AND dramatic. I like you in strong silhouettes. You carry them off beautifully.

Thanks for the comments, ladies! I did find it interesting that there was so much black here, but then I thought about it and it made sense: many elements that are considered "classic" were needed in the above looks, and with black as my core neutral it makes sense that for me many of those items are black.

Claire, aw miss you too roomie! I think I'll always be rocking part of the 80s in my style \m/

Rae, I hope you'll post it!

Kyle, thank you! I know I probably should wear pencil skirts more often since they're flattering for me, but I always feel too... femme fatale? Perhaps I should spend some time and experiment in how to style this skirt in a punkier way. Glad you think I can pull the strong silhouettes, those are my favorites! And I have been working on bringing more drama to my style :D

3 and 4 are my faves, amazed of that dress and fur vest:-)

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I totally agree with what Kyle said--wowsa! And with that hair (vaguely rockabilly?) in 6--awesome!

  • Carole replied 12 years ago

I must have missed a few of these, but you definitely rocked the decades!!! You have one fantastic wardrobe, girl! But your 80's inspired outfit is killer. Big Hair! Yes!

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

1 and 4 are my favorite outfits in the group. You really rock a midi and a furry vest with wide legs.

Thank you all for the comments! This was such a fun challenge :D

Jonesy, yep! I definitely feel much more comfortable in 50s-inspired looks if I can get a rockabilly vibe going. Good lesson to learn :)
