WIW 10.08 [ensemble: toffee, tomato, white & burgundy]

I loved this twist on a more classic color combo (red/white/camel) when Angie posted it, but have little-to-none in the way of burgundy or toffee. The image on the blog caught my eye this morning yet again and this line in the post stood out: "Animal print can be used as the toffee component of the outfit."

Duh, me!

So here is my rendition, substituting in an orange-based cheetah print (booties), cracked gold foil (tee), and light tan (clutch) in place of the toffee.

I bought this slouchy hat while out with Ann this past weekend, and it seems to be photographing a bit more plum than burgundy. The color is somewhere between the two, I think. Ann and I also chatted a bit about how sometimes we over-engineer our outfits and that, really, sometimes it's OKAY to just grab a tee and jeans then throw a jacket over the top. This is why we have such fabulous jackets in our wardrobes after all! Today I'm taking my own advice and hopefully, even though I've been off my jackets for the last two years, it helps breathe some life back into them for me. Now to dig up all my cool graphic tees...

  Newer: tee, necklace, hat, clutch

  Older: blazer, jeans, booties

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

You look so full of mischief! And no wonder. This is a fun combination.

Also funny, as in peculiar, as far the the way the colour is transmitting.

Your jacket is such a terrific cut; a bit like the famed Lanai. It looks wonderful on you.

Beautiful rendition of the colour combo! Now this is giving me more ideas about how I can wear my animal print booties with white jeans.

    Thanks Suz and Mona!

Suz, ah I hadn't thought of the jacket being similar in cut to the Lanai but yes that's totally right. I got this one at H&M a few years back while in LA, and hadn't been wearing it as much recently because it's a more tailored fit. But now that I'm wearing it, it seems less tailored than I was picturing in my head for some reason? So maybe that's a good sign that I'll start wearing it more again ;)

Mona, I think Angie's genius idea to swap in animal print for toffee extends to cognac as well. I am still thinking about those cognac flat boots from Anthro, but I'm also realizing that these cheetah booties visually act quite similar to cognac so I don't know whether or not I'll actually repurchase the booties.

What Suz said: mischievous little sis you! :-)
Please wear this red jacket more often, it looks so good on you.
I used a similar "substitution" for toffee last week - gold in my new dress. Why not? :-)

    SO. MUCH. FUN.

Yessssss! I'm on board to do the tees/jacket thing after seeing you nail it. Stay tuned for Inspired by posts ;-). And the hat is perfect, though as you said, more burgundy in reality. Saw another CCL Zara tee for layering today, lol.

    How fun!! Everything looks fab.

Hey! You didn't mention your lip colour here and it's one of the first things I noticed :) Works so well with the plum/burgundy hat. Well hat's off to you, b/c I'd never think to put a hat like this, in this colour, with a red jacket like that! And it totally works! You are putting my little brain through its paces for creativity just analyzing this :)

    Love it, Aida.

Hmm..swapping in animal print? I missed that in Angie's post, I'll have to go back and re-read it. Now I might be able to do a version of this too, yay!

Those booties are totally fabulous, and that color blazer looks spectacular on you.

Great booties! Makes me think I should look for animal print booties. I think this is a great outfit and doesn't need anything else.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

You made this combination your own and it is fab fun.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

The jacket does look terrific on you and the color with the plum (I think it is more plum) hat is great. Love that you mixed animal prints and despite all the supposed clashes here it all comes together and look great. As for over-engineering outfits, it is a fun hobby but I guess it is a good idea to have something to just wear occasionally.

Animal print booties? Yes please! And jeans and tee with a jacket is not just OK .... It's awesome ... Especially if the jacket is tomato red :). Looking good sista!

I'm loving how the dose of white seems to keep everything from clashing. Normally I wouldn't think plummy or burgundy would go well with tomato and animal print...but, you make it look very fab. I like the hat very much with your lip color and gorgeous hair.

I really like the somewhat softer-colored version of the ensemble you've put together here! And the jacket fits you so well. I own the same one from H&M in a brighter pink, this reminds me I might need to break it out again soon.

Gah! Now I want animal print footwear! Got to get on Santa's 'nice' list :D

What a fab rendition of the toffee, red, white and burgundy! You should definitely wear the jacket more often.

Aren't you the cutest girl on the block with this outfit, Aida! Love:-).

I have not pulled the trigger on Lisbon booties yet (financial constraints) but I see the two are totally interchangeable.
In my case, the animal print booties have a medium sized heel and have a pointy toe so Lisbons are sufficiently different.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    Killer

Do you get sick of me saying that? xo

  • Jjsloane replied 9 years ago

I've always loved those booties and enjoy everytime you wear them. I love this combo - all my favorite things (white jeans, leopard, statement necklace) and you wear them so well. Hear hear for wearing simple outfits with our fab jackets. I confess similar issues with overthinking to "wow" myself or others when I could just grab and go with what I have.

    Aida, this is super cool.

Thank you all for the great comments ladies, I'm tickled you all liked this as much as I did. And no worries, I plan to continue "engineering" my outfits as I always do; it's just that for the days when I'm feeling uncreative or sluggish or am rushed, I want to feel comfortable trusting my fabulous wardrobe to keep me looking fab even if it's just a jacket+tee+jeans. I did work hard to get it to the point where I could do this, may as well take advantage of it on the days where I need it right?

Ann, I think a CCL tee is a great option for this type of look! But maybe not that one sweatshirt we saw ;) My one kitty tee is too fitted to feel current, so I'm on the lookout for another. Which one did you see at Zara?

Jackie, hah yes I'm sorry, one of the few times I didn't mention the lip color! I wore my cherry-pink sheer gloss to add a little color dimension and softness ^^

    Angie, I could never :D
