WIW 10.04-06 [to meet Laura, shop w/Ann, & a day off]

I had an action-packed weekend full of mini-meetups and shopping, along with plenty of down time at home to rest for the upcoming work week. I ended up with a mix of my usual very casual weekend wear (Monday), smart casual (Saturday), and more urban smart (Sunday). Also managed all the looks to be rather color coordinated, though it was unintentional. It is also very obvious here that light footwear is my favorite. Feel free to skip ahead to the photos ^^

#2/3 (10.04, Saturday) - As I posted earlier, I met up with forum member Laura (rhubarbgirl) for dinner this past Saturday. Keeping the outfit relaxed and casual felt best, so I went with a tonal and subtly print mixed look. No repeated colors here, and in particular the belt color is echoed only by my skin. I think it works, and rather like the "nothing matches exactly" effect. I also grabbed my new SSIF coat; if I had worn this outfit out during the day I'd have skipped the coat. Hubby isn't a big fan of the boxiness but I still love it. I'll just wear it less on weekends.
  Newer: sweater, jeans, coat
  Older: belt, booties, clutch, earrings

#4/5 (10.05, Sunday) - On Sunday I met Ann (Dashielle) downtown and we romped around doing returns, trying things on, looking at more things, and gabbing over lunch. We bought matching silver layering tanks, I got a burgundy knit hat, and Ann also picked up a purple buffalo plaid shirt and some great belts. Lots of fun! Instead of my usual more casual weekend style, I opted for an outfit that's more my more urban workday style. The weather was a lot nicer than expected so I was a little warm, but that was fine. Debuting one of the two new clutches I bought for fall, a pony-hair leo print with a very light sandy base (better color in #6-8). Very much like the black/brown/white/gray combo here.
  Newer: jacket, pumps, clutch
  Older: pants, tee, earrings

#6-8 (10.06, Monday) - Had Monday off and hung out at home mostly, with hubby working upstairs with the cat. My sis and her lil dog came over to catch up on some recorded TV, then we all watched Monday Night Football. Such a casual day called for some denim-on-denim; oversized shirt + stretchy skinnies is always a comfy weekend option. We ran out briefly for snacks and burgers for the game but, full disclosure, I mostly spent the day sans shoes a la #8 ;)
  Newer: jeans, flats, clutch
Older: shirt, earrings (YLF secret santa '12, from BJ1111)

I absolutely love the looks in 2 and 4.  4 especially - you look so , so great in this!

Ack! I'm madly in love with the black and white outfit.  The clutch, the light shoes, the pants! the crane shirt and jacket.  Each item is a stand out, but also plays well together rather than competing.

Gorgeous outfits as usual Aida! I also love the black and white one but am taking notes on how you wear your flare jeans - perfect length on those!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

What a fabulous set of outfits! I saw the flares outfit earlier but it's great to see it again here with the coat as well. I agree that the non-matching works.

And #4 is just amazing on you.

You really do love light footwear! It's so interesting, especially given your dark hair. Sort of the opposite effect to a blonde who always wears dark footwear. (Ugh, that would be me, in winter, though not really by choice --- only dint of nasty climate. But don't lets go there, yet. I wore my taupe Reports today and intend to wear the lighter shoes until that is impossible!!)

Loved your urban workday outfit...so awesome, and now I HAVE to have some window pane plaid bottoms. Lookout Zara!

You look absolutely smashing in #4. I am totally blown away by your pizzazz and energy in that outfit. You are the queen of light footwear and accessories.
ASOS has quite a nice collection of clutches, don't they? I am eyeing this clutch also.

Fabulous looks Aida!. So nice to see the new coat in action. I loved it to bits when I saw you try it on and I like the clutch with it very much. Love the outfit with leather jacket in #4 too. I remember seeing that lovely foil print tee before and it looks great under the jacket. I also like how you un-toughened the jacket with feminine heels and light clutch and hooped earrings. Wonderful! Finally in #6 a great easy casual outfit for a day off.

    Thanks very much ladies! :D

Suz, hmmm interesting thought about the inverted blond with black footwear! I think part of it is that since my hair is dark it feels expected that I wear dark shoes, and the little punk inside me says "oh really, and who's going to make me??" The other part is that with the dark footwear on light hair, the footwear grounds a look (especially if there is a lot of black) where as light footwear with dark hair lightens up a look (again, especially if there is a lot of black). And that generally makes me feel happiest. I hope you get to wear your non-black shoes for a good long while still! (I just saw our week's forecast, and it's straight up rain though the foreseeable future come Saturday *sigh*)

Diane, thanks especially for the detailed comment <3

Lots of awesome pattern and neutral mixing here, Aida. I love the crane (?) tee and the black check pants, great look on you. I know you aren't a black wearer, but I still love it on you.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks Elly! Me and black are tentatively testing the waters again, so far I've enjoyed my more limited additions :) I think the dark-brown-that's-almost-a-dark-burgundy jacket really helped a lot with this outfit for me.

It's hard to pick a favorite, but think I like #4 is my fav as well. The window pane pnats and jacket look perfect together.

I am sorry I missed this somehow yesterday Aida! As usual love it down to the last detail. I reallly appreciate how you can take a simple outfit like white jeans and chambray shirt, and make it look just that much more. I'm working backwards here, but in the second outfit, what strikes me is how you've paired a tshirt with gold print on it with the outfit. Personally, I'd automatically default to silvery tones; therefore, to me, the look is unexpected yet fab. And then the first outfit has the zebra belt, which, to me, is so unexpected. Those unexpected pops (and more) are what make your outfits so intriguing to me. They are simple, thought out, and well executed. It shows that you think outside the box, and it is helping me stretch and train my brain. Have I gushed enough ;) Thank you :) :) :)

    Thank you KL and Jackie!

Jackie, thanks for the extra detailed comments, I appreciate them! I did waffle a bit about whether the gold messed with the brown/black/white/gray in the second outfit but decided ultimately that both silver and gold should work: silver plays with the gray in the mix, and gold plays with the brown. Plus I also have some silver in the mirrored sunnies even though they photographed as black ;)
