WIW 09.25 [chambray snake + hair deets]

I actually had two other outfits planned for today. The first one was for heavy rain which we ended up not having (that outfit will come out to play soon enough), and the second I decided was perfect to wear this Saturday for the epic shopping day. Then I got myself stumped, having apparently used all of my creative energy on those other two outfits. Was in the mood for cozy+exposed legs, this knit skirt was the perfect solution.

The top is less cozy I suppose, but it has a roomy and comfortable fit. I am still feeling reluctant to really start with the sweaters, so I looked at my other options. I haven't worn this chambray shirt in, goodness, nearly two years? No particular reason other than I just haven't been in the mood for it. It's actually rather long, and this skirt band sits at my natural waist which is rather high. That coupling makes semi-tucking an interesting challenge, solved by by tucking just the bottom of the shirt all along the front, and letting it drape over; makes for a nice faux high-low look. Light supporting cast because that's what makes me happiest: nude peep-toe oxford shoeties to ward off the rain (that's how it works, right??), large cream/black hoops, and white spiked purse. Finished off with a swipe of autumnal plum gloss.
   Newer: purse
   Older: everything else

Bonus hair photos that show the cut a bit better; I lightened up the photos so the short top layers (I don't usually go that short for longer cuts) are more visible. A much less dramatic angle than before, and more of the the shorter pieces in front so the long part is closer to my shoulders instead of more in line with my chin. We also changed the part up a bit; I had been parting straight back on the side, now the part starts from the same spot but cuts back diagonally across the other way. Subtle differences to most, but it feels pretty different to me :)

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

Love this from head to toe. It's like corporate with a hard edge.

Omg your hair is amazing. Those curls...my daughter has curls like this - I hope someday she can model hers like yours with pride!

You've always looked seriously amazing, but your hair is a game changer. It is simply stunning! The colour work is awesome.

You're knocking it out of the park this week!

Your hair looks fantastic & if this outfit is your third pick I'm in awe :)

This outfit is really flattering on you, Aida. I especially like the colors for you--they beautifully complement your hair, skin, and eyes. Your haircut is gorgeous, allowing such soft curls to form.
Your booties are such a good nude color for you that I can hardly make out the style of them in the photos!
So funny to hear your outfit planning process. I often do that--"save" an outfit I had in mind for another day!

Your hair is simply gorgeous!  As a straight-haired gal I have always wanted pretty curls like yours.
That is one lovely outfit - the skirt is beautiful and love the combo with booties and chambray shirt.

Love these together, Aida! Love how you combined the denim/chambray with the snake! So creative! You also look so lovely!

Beautiful outfit and your hair is just absolutely gorgeous! I am especially intrigued by the tuck you did here. I tried something sort of similar to solve a skirt problem but it didn't look this good at all. Will examine closely and try again. And nice re-mix of older items btw!

    Your hair is gorgeous.

I love how you paired the pencil skirt with the looser shirt. I'm taking notes on the tucking. Your hair looks so soft and the updated style is so chic. Definitely your "crowning glory" - stunning!

This is great on so many levels. I have a few of those really long chambray shirts and never quite know what to do with them in terms of tucking or not. This is perfect. The knit skirt is really nice with this - lovely soft colouring. And your supporting act is always so well thought out. Lastly - if I had curly hair, this is what I would want - it looks very expertly cut and designed, and really soft . Gorgeous!

Aida - everytime I think I've seen a new favorite outfit of yours, you knock it out of the park again I swear!  This looks fantastic on you and your hair is beautiful with the slight changes. LOVE.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

ps. A light coloured support act makes me happiest too. xo

  • Sal replied 10 years ago

I love your hair. So chic and also so healthy.

    Great outfit too.

The hair is looking great with these subtle changes. Changing the part creates more volume at the top. How short are your top layers Aida? I can't really tell. Would you say they are around the top of your ears roughly?

  • E replied 10 years ago

Your haircut looks great! Such gorgeous curls.

That's interesting how you solved the semitucking issue: I'll have to try that out myself. And that skirt is stunning on you!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

This is amazing!  I need to copy with my straight hair version.  Your hair looks especially amazing - I like the fullness on top with the angle  I'm always trying to get mine to have more volume on top and then taper at the ends.  HAVE FUN TONIGHT!

Wow, your hair is breathtaking! Absolutely breathtaking. Love the chambray top with the snakeskin skirt - a great combination. Perfectly tucked!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

You look absolutely beautiful in this, Aida. Wow. It's one of my favourites ever. As Sharan says, the colours and pattern are perfectly complementary to your hair, skin, and eyes. Amazing. I love the new hair, too.

I have managed semi tucks like this also with a couple of my longer tops. Another, similar trick that works with a knit top and a VC tube skirt, is simply to fold the knit top under where you want it to be shorter and in the curved shape you're after -- it sticks surprisingly well! But this blousing technique is perfect for wovens.

Love this outfit - the skirt is gorgeous, and so is your hair!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

I absolutely love the hair. It look so soft and pretty and frames your face well. I also like the outfit. Very flattering silhouette and the nude shoes work really well. This time of year is hard to dress especially when the weather is shifting so dramatically from summer to fall and back again.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

You are my role model for wearing light colored shoes with dark hair :). Fantastic outfit! I love how you have semi tucked too. The new haircut is lovely!

  • columbine(erin) replied 10 years ago

The tucking job is brilliant. I Need to save this post do I can study it.

    Chic outfit, Aida!

Great little outfit. Casual and put together. I especially like the footwear here. Genius.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

New hair is more than fab, and love the not prepared yet for sweaters outfit!:-)denim shirt does such a good job here, I predict a K2K from Angie:-),.

What Niki Lea said....you look wonderful, Aida!  I adore your hair curly, it looks creative, edgy, and feminine.

I LOVE this outfit on you, Aida! Sorry for shouting. You look great in the light colors, but I also love how the color blocking on the skirt bookends your dark hair. There is something, dare I say, romantic about this look? Your fabulous figure is hinted at by the way the shirt drapes, but not in an "in your face" way. The nude shoes, the proportions, everything is just so pleasing to my eye. Well done!

Hello ladies, sorry to get back to this so late but it was such a whirlwind weekend -- I'm still catching my breath! Thank you all for the lovely comments on the outfit and the hair.

Mona, the shortest layers are in line with the top of my eyebrows, so maybe about 0.5-0.75" above my ears. Normally I'd do the top of the ears as you mentioned, but this shorter length adds a little more chaos which I like. Also makes it very unpredictable ;)

Suz, I'll have to try that with my knits. I'm surprised to hear that they stay put, but that would certainly be kinder to them then tucking (mine always seem to stretch a lot when I tuck).

Lynne, how wonderful to see you! Thank you very much. I hope you and your family are doing well <3
