WIW 09.22-28 (slouchy transitional)

Hi ladies! I know I've been rather MIA, but I promise I've been (mostly) keeping up with all you fabulous ladies via my phone. Work is finally settling down, and I should be back on the forum (yay!) starting this coming week. Feeling chatty, feel free to jump right down to the photos.

We've been having fantastic weather here in the PNW the past couple of weeks, my absolute favorite type of fall weather: warm and crisp! The perfect weather for shorts+boots. I missed a full week of it due to illness, so I plan to now milk it as long as possible. Here's what I wore this past week, can you tell I've been really into emerald, rust, and structured slouch? ;)

  1. Saturday: worn out to breakfast, then hubby and I went on a half-day ride out to Snoqualmie. I usually add a healthy dose of white to emerald+black outfits, but was inspired by this outfit to instead add burgundy and make the whole palette moodier; the white polka dots and silver stripes added enough lightness for me.
  2. Sunday: worn to a Mariner's game then dinner with hubby, sis, and her boyfriend. A friend who's a season ticket holder with amazing, almost-on-the-field seats gave me four tickets and we really enjoyed watching the game with him and his son. Later, we caught the replay of the game on TV... and found that we had been on camera. A LOT. I was happy I'd worn something so cute and cheerful ^^ Though, goodness, I sure need to work on my posture.
  3. Monday: worn to the grocery then have friends over to watch football. Felt like being in my PJs all day (last day of my cold, finally), but with company over this was the next best thing: soft oversized wide leg trousers and a loose woven/knit mixed media blouse. Done and done!
  4. Tuesday: worn to work then out to dinner with some friends. I want to try a couple white jean+boots outfits before the rain comes, quite pleased with how Autumnal this turned out. Later I was amused to find that Angie had written about arm parties this same day. Also, these are slouchy skinnies! They're about 1.5 sizes up from "correct", even if it doesn't really show in the photos.
  5. Wednesday: worn to work and the gym. New jacket, hard to photograph the color! It's like a rusty tomato-red, dusty yet saturated. Yesterday was layered bracelets time, so this day was layered necklaces time. Inspired by this color palette; I very much like pairing a single warm shade with cool neutrals, and throwing in some warm taupe was a fun choice.
  6. Thursday: worn to work and the gym. This almost-cropped sweater, which I always have to layer when wearing my normal low-rise pants, worked surprisingly well with these paper bag shorts! I was so happy to not tuck and get a fully slouchy look with it, I'm considering getting another sweater in this same awkward length.
  7. Friday: worn to work, the gym, and whatever is in store for date night tonight. Today ended up a lot warmer than expected, so I scrapped my initial pants outfit in favor of this one. This lovely tweed skirt (which sits somewhere in between my waist and hips) is from the YLF swap back in spring and I'm excited to finally be able to wear it; also a new top. Slightly unusual proportions for me (not particularly leg lengthening nor shortening), but I liked the more relaxed vibe leaving the top untucked gave.
  8. And in an attempt to appease Angie for my long absence, a bonus photo of my off-camera, very toothy smile :}

Aida! It's so good to see you post. You look fabulous in everything, as usual. I really love the last version in #2 (the full complement with scarf, jacket, and boots). I also really love the oversized black blouse look in #3. I don't think I've see you in this silhouette before.

    Looking good, lady!

We've missed you Aida - glad to hear things are settling down a bit for you. And don't you look like a fresh of breath air on a fall day!

I absolutely love the colour pairing of turquoise and brown in outfit 2 - so fall like and yet colourful. And man oh man, outfit #5 is blowing my mind!!! What a fantastic ensemble - unexpected elements (shorts and high boots) with great colours...gorgeous!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Wow, what creative and stunning outfits! I don't think I've seen any of your WIWs before and I'm so inspired. I especially love your eye-catching and unusual (in a *wonderful* way) color patterns and silhouettes, and your incredible jackets. I hope you'll be able to post again soon.

  • merwoman replied 11 years ago

wow - you are stunning Aida. Your shorter hair frames your face beautifully.
Gorgeous outifts -1 and 2 are my faves. Love the textures, and blend of colours.

  • Laura replied 11 years ago

Looking good with your awesome new haircut! #3 is my favorite and I love #2 especially without the jacket & scarf :)

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

    I love #2, #5 & #8. Great colours on you.

  • DeclawedJaguar replied 11 years ago

All very lovely, but 5 is my favorite. That jacket is delectable!!! May I ask where it's from?

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I've missed you and your fab outfits, Aida! These are all amazing. 5 is my favorite - the combo of shorts and tall boots is so unexpected and so cool. I also love the way your trousers drape in 3 - I'm not really a wide leg trouser fan but these are just sublime on you and I would totally become a wide leg convert if I found some that fit like that.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

I am MIA too and so glad I caught your post in that brief moment I am here! :-)
Emerald is one of my favorite colors and I love seeing it on you.
As usual your outfits are very interesting, rich and creative but my absolute fave is # 3! Oh boy, I want to run away and copy it RIGHT NOW! Such a simple, refined and elegant version of "volume on volume I cannot stand it!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

That new jacket in 5 is TDF! The entire outfit is too, too amazing! Very glad to see you back on the forum - have missed you and was getting so antsy to see you in LA. :)

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Hmmm where do I start - with gorgeous bonus shot, the great arm candy or all those wonderful pops of colour - I just don't know. I guess I'll just have to roll out that old cliche- You look fab.

  • Kate replied 11 years ago

You look fab in all of the looks, Aida, but I simply adore #5. You just look stunning in that outfit.

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Your posts are such a visual treat, Aida! Not only are you SO pretty but your outfits are so fun and interesting. I love them all. I couldn't pick a fave. The emerald and black in 1 is so striking. I love the wide legs in 3 and the great colors in 2. You look amazing in everything. So glad that you will be posting more often again :)

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

So good to see you, Aida. I adore the second outfit and, since I plan to try my hand at mixing black and brown this winter, I find it quite helpful! You also do a great got of giving casual looks polish and work looks a playful side.

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

Can I pick favorites? I love 1 and 2. Those color palettes are working so well on you. So is your new hair. I just love it! Good luck with work!

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

Hasn't our PNW weather been gorgeous? It's actually challenged my transitional wardrobe creativity because I assumed I'd be in jeans and boots by now!

I love how you paired the burgundy with emerald. Definitely a nice nod to fall, and it's a red and green pairing that doesn't read at all Christmasy. Good lesson there....

    Good to see you back!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Your BIG toothy grin did appease me :)

Love all your gorgeous looks, Aida! All an 11 out of 10. They have a distinct modern '70s feel to them. I hereby crown you Queen '70s.

Loving #4 and #5 especially! Those are KILLER to the power of KILLER. That - I do not say lightly.

Now excuse me while I recover from your sizzling style quotient....

  • replied 11 years ago

I love those flowing boho looks on you, and I love your new title. Congratulations. Beautifully artful photos as usual. A treat for the eye!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I've missed you, Aida! So sorry you were battling a crummy cold, but you certainly look fab :). I am still loving your haircut so much! These are all great--I especially love 1, 2, and 5 (love the color mixes and silhouettes). Glad that your work is easing up a bit.

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

my jaw dropped on 4! LOOOOVE

and I am so happy to see someone rocking the forest green like you in 1 and 3...even touches help ease my obsession with that dang color!

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

I completely agree that 4 and 5 are genius combos and look great. The white pants with boots is unexpected, as is the leather jacket and shorts. Love your creativity. And you look great in yellow, too! Angie is right about the 70s vibe -- I'd not thought of that. Very fab, as always. You have great, distinctive style.

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Aida, YLF and well put together in all these transition outfits as usual, but I say WOWWWW and PLONKKK for nr. 5, 6...and 8(of course:-))!

  • KathyL replied 11 years ago

You have a great boot collection! Love all your outfits, especially #4. You really rock the shorts with boots look.

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Good grief, these are all great. You are a star at putting these together and also showcasing them so beautifully in the photos. My favorite? Please don't make me choose. Oh, okay, #2! Holy toledo! Great for a ride to Snoqualmie, of which I have great vacation memories, along with a side trip to Roslyn. Can't wait to meet you at Oktoberfest and rub elbows with a woman who really knows herself fashion-wise. I have to go lie down now and put a cold compress on my head.

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

All are great - really like the addition of burgandy to #1 - BUT, #5 is one of my *all time favorites* of yours! Love this! What are the boots, if I may ask????

Also - I had forgotten that you'd cut your hair - boy, does it ever look cute!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

We have missed your beautiful face and outfit posts, Aida. Another great batch of stylish outfits. 4, 5 and 6 are exceptionally fab and I love your hair!!!!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

These are all a treat for the eyes! I love what you did with your skirt in #7!

  • fashionista replied 11 years ago

I loved your attitude most in #2, that's my fav outfit.
    Loved your toothy bonus smile.

I am envy of your boots collection.

    AWESOME in caps on..........

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Great to see you again. 2, 5 and 6 are my favorites here. I'm jealous you're able to break out your boots already. I'm struggling with what to wear after peep toes and sandals but before boots.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oh WOW ladies, you sure know how to make a gal feel welcomed! Thank you ALL for all of the wonderful comments <3 I'm also very glad that these outfits resonated with you, as this is my favorite time of year to dress for even though it's very short where I live; I'm also doing a mini-purge-and-refine of my style, and these all feel like a step in the right direction.

DeclawedJaguar, I picked up the rusty jacket from Nordstrom Rack about a month ago. I'll check who it's made by when I get home from work for you.

Diana, the drapey wide legs in #3 are a size (or two or three) up in the Express Editor. They are definitely slouchy, sitting low on my hips with a dropped crotch and all; I would say they fit along the waist about how you'd want a BF jean to fit :)

Rae, meee toooo! And I will be bringing the rusty jacket with me to LA :D

Beth Ann, great! I look forward to seeing your black and brown outfits. I find brown leathers especially easy to mix with black clothing.

Angie, thank you so much!! *fans self* I'm glad the grin helped ^^ And I am _thrilled_ with my title, and so happy that my strong 70s inspiration comes across in the modern, urban way I strive for. As much as I love the 80s, the 70s always seems much more natural for me to wear and I've been especially keen on bringing more of that late 70s early punk rock vibe to my look; I've put off integrating that side of me far too long!

Jayne, yes I've been really into emerald and forest greens lately, too! I can't seem to get enough, though I don't have a lot of it in my wardrobe.

Marley, the boots in #5 are Miz Mooz "Flynn" and are a really interesting taupe color; indoors the taupe looks more greige and outdoors the warm creamy shade comes out. Super comfy, and an all-day walking shoe for me!

JJ, if your weather is in the 70s, I think you can wear your shorter boots with skirts/dresses/shorts and a lightweight top for a fun transitional vibe. Don't get too jealous, our weather isn't nice enough for long enough to even PUT my boots away and I definitely miss wearing true summery outfits! The grass is greener, eh? ;)

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! All of them. I can't pick a favorite :)

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Aida, you are so much fun! I especially love all the tall boot inspiration and the fresh color combos, although the black and emerald has my heart. You have such a great boot collection! So glad to see you post here, and can't wait to see you next week. :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thanks Cheryl and Una!

    Una, I can't wait either :D

  • Jules replied 11 years ago

These are ALL amazing! I have pants like #3 bought on a whim at Old Navy and have not been sure how to style them, if they even could be styled. Love your look. Are those heels with them?

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you Jules! I am indeed wearing pumps with #3, just a plain classic patent black pair. This particular pair is around 4" but that height is certainly unnecessary. You could get a similar look with far less; I also like to wear my 2" pointy pumps with these trousers, though they "puddle" a bit with those (which I don't mind). These slouchy trousers also work especially nicely with both fitted and slouchy top/sweaters, breezy silk tops, hi low hemlines, and crisp button up blouses.

  • Jules replied 11 years ago

Thanks Aida.. I don't really have pumps but I will play around with what I have, maybe my black heeled boots. My pants are super-casual with a foldover waist so I was always thinking loungey, sneakers, sandals etc ... but was not loving the sloppy results and I see different potential now. Could be good with my red peacoat and black boots... just need to figure out a top I think. Thanks for the suggestions!
