WIW 09.14 [seasons challenge: red frosted leaves]

Hi ladies! I know it's been a while since I posted any outfits -- still getting dressed, don't worry -- so I thought I'd take the opportunity to play along with Diane's Seasons Challenge (and introduce you all to my new 80s metalhead hair ^^). For the first day I chose the frosted red leaves (#3, left). Lots of inspirational bits from the image for me, but particularly the colors, texture, and crisp feel.

[Challenge info and guidelines posted here.]

I was most drawn to the frosted edges of the leaves, the way the rich red leaves were encapsulated by the crisp white frost. I was able to come up with a few combinations that emulated it more faithfully, but the outfits didn't quite feel right for my current style. So I reversed the colors to white surrounded by red (#3, right) which feels much better. Chose my blush palm-leaf printed tee (a more literal nod to the leaves) and white baggy skinnies for the "central" white element, with red waiter-point blazer and sneakers for the "surrounding" red element.

Tucked and belted for crispness (well, as crisp as one can be in an oversized linen tee and baggy skinnies ;) ), along with tucking the sneaker laces although I did leave just the ends of the laces out as nod to the leaves' pointy edges. White perforated belt and hoops for added sportiness to go with the sneaks. Taupe clutch and rose accents (watch, sunnies) to pick up on the teeny bits of brown in the original image.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

Oh, I love it! I think you succeeded at crisp, too!

Uh, oh. Aida's back. We all have to step up our game accordingly:)  I can't stand how great your hair is - so lush looking.  Great length now too!  I haven't read the details of the challenge so am using my imagination as to how it works, but this is so pretty yet true to how you dress.  Great idea to add the rose gold - plays nicely off the red and white and is more subtle and less in-your-face than gold or silver would be here.

Your posts are always such a treat. This may be my all time Aida favorite. Your attention to details adds interest. Love the color reversal too.

I love this, everything is crisp but soft, and the colours sing against your lovely hair.  Loving the 80s volume!

What a great summer interpretation of a very October-ish photo. I really appreciate the continuity between your watch, clutch, and shades, too.

Love it and your hair too!  Nice to see you again!

Loving your hair!! Mind you, I don't think I've seen a single iteration of your hair that I haven't adored, from short to longest.

What a terrific interpretation of the challenge picture. I like how you lightened it up so we could see. I also like the juxtaposition of the casual sneakers with the crisp jacket.

I really like the hints of rose with the red jacket. It adds some fun.
    You look fabulous!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 8 years ago

And you wore white pants, too! Fantastic.

Well, I just love love love your hair, and didn't get a chance in all the goings on at lunch with Una and all! Super crisp, as only you can do, but I'm thrown...is this the same girl who doesn't own colored shoes? ;-)

Good golly this is fabulous! I love red and white together, and you nailed the inspiration pic on all points.

A fresh and lovely outfit! I like your version of the photo and your inspired outfit. You are right, it looks like you. I really like that longer length of your hair--the delicate, wispy spirals are so pretty. Kind of a pretty, rocker look.

So cool and crisp - like taking a bit out of an apple. Extra love for the red shoes.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Yay! great to see you Aida. I love that jacket on you - fit color everything. You are just as beautiful as the inspiration picture, and it was one of my favorites.

Miss Gorgeous! It's so good to see you!

Nice every single thing about your outfit. And I especially love the attention you give to the smallest possible detail. Your outfit, is PERFECTION....and so is your hair!

Love the blazer and the jacket.

  • Ankita replied 8 years ago

    Good God...this is KILLER!
I'd heard wonderful things about you from Maneera and now I see it all with my own eyes...great interpretation of the picture here and it's so evident how much thought you put into doing it :)
I love the way you twisted the red on white and went for red sneakers.... great accessories and gorgeous hair!
And yes, that crispness is there!

Pick me up from the floor!!

... this is so very 'Grammable' as they say...

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Love your attention to details, Aida, a gorgeous outfit-as always, glad you're back!:-)

  • Astrid replied 8 years ago

Awesome! Good to see you post. Your hair looks fantastic.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous!  Love the way you incorporate the classic and slightly preppy red sneaks into your look.  You have a skill at folding trends into your own style seamlessly.  You always look modern, without looking like you were styled at the the mall.

Relaxed skinnies look great on you -- there's something luxurious about easy fits.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

FABULOUS. And sneakers too, Aida. VERY different for you. NICE.

I love the '80s touches with the earrings and pointed hem blazer. I seem to be passing my '80s vibe on to you, while you're passing your '70s vibe onto me. Fun swap.

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

Love this!  The white and red is a great combo on you.  The sneakers are cute and make a nice juxtaposition with the blazer.  Your hair is looking fab!

Aw ladies thanks for all the lovely comments and return wishes! <3

Lisa, hah that's how I feel about returning to the forum -- Now people will actually see what I'm wearing! Most days it's just family.

Jenn, I hadn't thought of this as looking particularly summery but I suppose it rather is (especially with the linen). This is a typical type of spring/fall outfit for me.

Ann, yes yes really, no colored shoes. Really! Ok so not quite ;) I do have a couple pairs, but they rarely get worn. I've actually set all but two aside to pass on. These red sneaks are quite old and always seem to survive the cuts even though I don't wear them all that often.

Sharan, ooh I love that description for my hair because that is exactly what I was going for :D

Denise, is it bad that I had to lookup 'grammable'? I'm so not hip! (And thanks for the compliment!)

Beth Ann, thank you very much. Since I do shoot for a good dose of trendy in my style it's always nice to hear that I'm wearing them in an authentic way.

Angie, the swap is fun isn't it ^^ Not sure yet if the 80s hair will throw my 70s-80s thing too off balance, but so far I am enjoying it.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

We've got to have '80s hair, Aida. High five. And yours looks killer. Much love to you.

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

Just beautiful! Love the fun shirt with this, also, but red is your color. Well done:)

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Angie, yes 80s hair is always fun ^^ I need to get my flares rehemmed a bit shorter. I think 80s hair with a 70s outfit would be fun!

Carole, thank you very much! Given the option I usually go for orange, but have been wearing my red items again this past season. It's been fun "rediscovering" it.
