WIW 08.23, 09.04, 09.08 [casual kickin']

Three recent easy weekend outfits. The weather remains rather warm, though we are certainly headed into fall (my driveway has the fallen maples leaves to back this up). Still, I'm not quite ready to pull out the heavy stuff ;)

#1 (08.23) - Worn to a baseball game (last of the season for our little Single A team at home *sniffle*). It was warm, but I knew it would cool off quite a lot once the game got underway; plus we were sticking around for the fireworks show afterwards. Even with the blanket we brought I ended up too cold, go figure! To change things up, instead of rolling the jeans over the tops of the boots I turned up just the inside half of each hem. Quite like how it looks. Finished the look off with my weekend fringe bag, retro hair and peach sunnies, and better-than-nude peachy lip balm.
   Newer: sweater, jeans, boots, bag
   Older: hoops, watch

#2/3 (09.04) - Worn hanging out at home with hubby and sis for football. Wanted vaguely Team Sport colors so I went for the blues... only to find that all of my blue is for cold weather! How (and when exactly) did that happen!? Even though it was tooooo warm for the day, I pulled out this light aqua tunic sweater. For a more structured look I created a faux diagonal hem by semi-tucking the side where it splits, and then folding the hem over with a bit of tape at the end to hold it in place. [EDIT: what it normally looks like] Paired with cognac and light snakeskin d'orsay flats, which feels like the perfect "transition to fall" footwear (both color and shape). Accessorized with vintage chunky teal earrings, just for fun ^^
   Newer: jeans, shoes
   Older: sweater, earrings, watch

#4 (09.08) - Worn for a day off at home. I wasn't sure if we'd end up leaving the house or not so I thought I'd dust off and re-test one of my go-to fall weekend formulas: flannel + skinnies + boots. Add a semi-tuck with fun belt, simple hoops and nude peachy lip balm, easy-peasy done. Even though we ended up staying home I'm glad to know one of my favorite FFB formulas still feels good. And if we had ended up leaving the house, I'd have grabbed a black clutch to go along with this.
   Newer: jeans, shoes
   Older: flannel, belt, hoops, watch

#2 is just gorgeous. What a pretty, fresh way to enjoy one of the last days of summer. You look stunning in turquoise.

And I'm equally in love with #3. That's a pretty constant silhouette in my life, too. What a fantastic belt. I like the subtle pattern and textural play. Really love the booties also.

My word but you look amazing in aqua - plus that side tuck is perfection!!! What a great way to change it up! Love it all as usual, especially the first one. I have very similar boots so will be watching what you pair yours with. Mine were workhorses last year.

Oh, you added newer and older. Love that. Also love your outfits. The color in #2 is beautiful on you, although I do like the soft neutrals also. The boots in #3 absolutely make that outfit for me. And the belt. Gorgeous!

You look wonderful in blues and it is so clever how you tweaked that tunic.
    Love the silhouette in #1.

There's that 'soft edge' we were all talking about :) Love the sweater in #2 with those fab two-tone shoes and I'm loving the booties in #3. Your hair always adds a lovely element to your outfits too. You look great.

What everyone said :) & I love your hair.

    What Caro said :) :).

2 is just stunning!! Very clever tucking ^_^! The diagonal line creates a very flaterrring effect. The blue is also gorgeous on you.

1 and 4 are perfect too. Love the boots in both the outfits :). And the roll on the jeans in 1 is fun!

P.S. How do the DV sandals fit? They sure look comfortable. Planning on ordering it online.

All of these casual looks are fab. I love the faux angle tuck and will have to try that one. I am drooling over both pairs of those booties - I would be a lemming and they would be mine if they were available in my size!

I love all three outfits with number 2 being a favorite. Like everyone else has said you look fantastic in aqua , and the faux side tuck- so flattering. Looking forward to seeing what you post next so I can shamelessly copy :)

I'm with others, aqua is a great color on you.  And I adore those booties in #1, if they had my size I'd give them a try.  Light colored booties with a low heel seem so hard to find.

Thanks for all of the great comments and feedback, ladies! It's always nice to hear that simpler weekend outfits are enjoyed as much as the more fashion-creative looks. I really liked how the sweater in #2 looks with the diagonal hem, so I'll certainly be doing that again with it! I've a hunch it would get more wear if it were actually that way to begin with....

Jackie, I adore the gray booties which I've only had a couple weeks now. Totally wish I'd bit the bullet and bought them earlier, as I know I'd have gotten loads of wears. I might be able to squeak in a few wears on drier days this fall/winter, but as the soles are leather they unfortunately won't stand up to any rain.

Neel, these DVs seem to run a bit large; I kept the smaller of my two half sizes. I've got narrow heels and a normal-just-bordering-wide toe box, and I almost always take my larger size (8) in pointy toed footwear but with these I kept my smaller size (7.5). I did find that the buckle rubs my ankle a bit,due to a mix of the ankle strap sitting quite low and me being very bony. Body glide along the ankles, big toe, and small toe make these all-day shoes for me.

Aida, you look just stunning in these pale shades. I love the flat footwear in 1 & 2, too! I think these looks are plenty fashion-creative-- just with a different flavor. I can't wait to see you in a few weeks! Squee!

Wow x 3! Love these casual outfits. I especially love the white chelsea boots with the plaid. It's a fun juxtaposition. You wear lights SO well!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

These are great!  The first one is like my grey sweatshirt and BF jeans, only with your spin.  The asymmetrical sweater is fab.  I love your light colors too because the details keep it all from being too sweet.

Thanks Claire, Kelly, and Una :D

Claire, I can't wait to see you again too! SO EXCITED. And these casual looks.. they're fashionable but never feel particularly creative to me. I do know that looking fab without much effort isn't a bad place to be, though I still struggle on weekends sometimes.

Una, hah yes! I actually wore that top with BF jeans earlier this summer too! Here and here. Gray seems to work really awesomely with BF jeans for some reason.
