WIW 08.22 [back to basics]

After a rather experimental and particularly slouchy week, today I just wanted something simple and a bit pretty. Of course nearly everything in my closet has slouch to it these days, so this is still plenty slouchy ^^

An end-of-summer interpretation of an old tried and true standby formula for me: sweater + skinnies + pumps. Summerized with the semi-open-weave short sleeved sweater and also rolling up the pant hems. I like this particular length best with heels so even though my first shoe thought, dalmatian ankle strap flats, would be a trendier option I chose my black pointy pumps for the extra lengthening (plus they're on-trend enough). To keep the look on the urban end as well as to counter the pretty just a bit, I put my hair up in my pomp-pony and wore two pairs of little pyramid stud earrings (one copper, one gold). Went with retro sunnies for the pretty factor, and a swipe of sheer neon orange lipstick along with the bright hard clutch for a little extra touch of sun.

We're getting to that part of summer when I realize the warm days are numbered, and I want to try to sneak in extra wears of my favorite warm-weather things while I still can! So that's my plan for the next couple of weeks :)

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

I am with you 100%! Now is the time to wear the heck out of our summer clothes.

Love this outfit. Pretty, fresh, and spunky, somehow -- maybe it's the ponytail?

I hear ya ...I had to wear sleeves and a scarf in the chilly rain and I'm not pleased. I like those pants!

I like it a lot - that sweater looks like a useful piece.....I like this more urban look on you too - again, you switch it up often and do it so well - keeps people interested!

Like this a lot! Nice to throw in the classic patent pumps - fun & on trend! I hear you about the weather. It almost throws me into a panic...I have on BFs today but almost feel a little guilty since shorts & skirts (for me) wearing weather is coming to an end soon. I can smell it in the air, can't you?

Fantastic! Love the ankle pants and heels. Jealous that Fall will be coming so soon for you! I'll still be wearing the heck out of my Summer clothes for trick or treating. Of course, I'll stick with my Winter instead of yours.

Fab and fun! I've enjoyed your slouchy looks though. :)

Love this! But I want a partial tuck.

Fab outfit! I love the simple black heels with it. Enjoy your summer clothes before it gets to cool.

Fun pattern mix with the pants and clutch! Patent pumps adds a touch of dressy. YLF!

Ah, how I wish my high temps were numbered!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Hear, hear! Wear them now before the summer is gone!
I am with Anna here - like the outfit but would like to see a semi-tuck :-)
I hear you on the slouch - I have the same. What interesting is that those few items which are not slouchy (e.g. sheath dresses) do not feel as modern to me and I don't have much desire to wear them...

Love this, Aida. This looks retro, lady like and sassy all in one. You have such a great sense of style. Pumps here are perfect too. You have awesome style!

Those pants are so cool, and you look great in this outfit. Love the graphic echo of the clutch. Your fall-back formula is a winner for you, for sure.

Thanks for all the comments, ladies!

Jackie, I smell it too, fall is definitely around the corner! But not for a week or two, I hope :D I'm doing pretty well at holding off on some of the fall things I want to wear, I just keep reminding myself that I'll have PLENTY of time for them soon enough.

Anna and Sveta, hah I did actually try a semi-tuck initially but these pants have a higher rise than I normally wear and I didn't like how it looked. Loose and breezy felt good for the day, especially since I do semi-tuck so often.

Gorgeous from head to toe and the shoes bookend the hairstyle in color and shape.

Oh warm weather, please don't go! I can't bear to mention the "s" word (school) or the "f" word (fall).

This is a terrific end-of-summer outfit. I am also wearing the heck out of my summer clothes while I still have the chance!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you Jaime and Karie! :D

I love this, Aida! The plaid skinnies make me happy, and your heels and slouchy shirt set them off perfectly.

Summer always flies by, doesn't it? At least for those of us in the northern hemisphere. I wish the lengths of our summer and winter were reversed.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

I wanted to see a semi tuck too. But I understand how it could be a challenge with high rise pants. I always wear top untucked with high rise (or even medium) pants too .... I have a very short waist.

I think this is JFE though. Proportions are great and the pointy toes do add extra length to the leg line. Definitely a much relaxed than we are used to seeing Aida outfit though :)

Loving the plaid skinnies with pumps. I like the sweater untucked.

    Thanks Windchime, Neel, and Reneeb!

Windchime, I'd definitely be happy if the seasonal lengths were reversed (and stayed as mild). 6+ months of 70-80F weather sounds dreamy!

Neel, hah I thought this was a bit less relaxed than usual. I guess I haven't posted enough of my weekend casual outfits (still working on getting those ready), that should help skew the view ;)
