WIW 08.21 [sporty slouchy, bordering sloppy]

Ok so this is essentially a dressy, more fashion conscious version of a sweatshirt + gym shorts + sneakers outfit. I don't know how sloppy this actually looks (versus how soft it feels) but I think this probably borders into the unknown for anyone not into/aware of trendy fashion. Very unstructured, rather unconventional-bordering-frumpy proportions. I'd guess it could read equally as fashion-in-the-know and fashion-out-of-the-loop ;) I promise I do have several more structured outfit ideas for these culottes, but they're all for cooler weather. For now I'm enjoying wearing them in a very soft and oversized way.

The few points of structure in this outfit are enough for me, but only on a day that I was up for it like today: a little at the neck, forearms, a wee bit of calf, and "streamlined" sneakers. The structured clutch also helps, and I chose it because of how opposing its rigid structure and print looked against the very soft clothing. Tucking or semi-tucking the top would add a good deal more structure, but I was going for the sweats look so I left it untucked and long. Keeping with the sporty vibe I added giant gold hoops (which also gets me that bit of glam I need), and a better-than-nude peachy lip tint. While hair up would add to the sporty side, I left it down to play with the slouchy side.

As seems to often be the case with oversized and slouchy clothing, the photographs don't show nearly as much as there is in person. Not at all sure what the reaction to this outfit will be; I liked it, but I am curious to hear all of your thoughts on it ^^

You know, I don't think this reads as too much volume. I think that the top is semifitted, and the band at the bottom helps keep the volume "in check." I think it looks good, although it does read more casual than a lot of your outfits. Nice job!

Super Cute Flowy On Trend Fabness Deluxe. This outfit has plenty of structure to my eye.

And you're wearing sneakers. The sky just fell down.

Thanks Gigi! I forgot about how the sweater welt adds some structure too, great point.

Hah Angie, yes I know right!? (And thank you too!) It took all my strength not to put on my white pumps this morning, and I am very happy with the trendier effect the sneakers have. Still feels weird, and probably contributes to why this has a borderline sloppy feel to me ;) That said I'm almost at peace with my weekend chambray Vans, as I've worn them nearly every weekend.

I think it is completely winningly adorable on you. And I love that you are getting real wear out of those gorgeous culottes.

I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. Rock on. You will be Princess Sneaker in no time. xo

I would wear this in a heartbeat, although I don't think it would look nearly as good on my body type.  Slouchy?  yes, but not untidy in the least.  Love seeing you in sneakers, too!

This is so much more structured than I expected from your description. I know what you mean about some outfits looking either very fashionable or very unfashionable but this one is squarely in the first category. The top, as mentioned above, is not tailored but definitely fitted enough to give structure. The slip-ons look terrific here. And, yes, by the way, I did enjoy my culottes swishing and swooshing around me yesterday - hope you did too!

You know, I think even those w/o knowledge of trends would still read you as fashionable in this outfit, because it looks so intentional. And the pieces definitely don't look like gym wear!

Anyway, you look adorable & cosy in this: I love those culottes so much. And you're wearing flats! :D

I quite like it (sneakers included), these culottes were a fun piece for the season.
Love your hair - having straight as a poker hair I always admire curls and yours are GORGEOUS!

Aida, it is SO MUCH FUN to see you in flat sneakers and volume on the bottom. How great that this outfit was so comfortable and so on-trend at he same time. It should be illegal! I love the color of those culottes on you. They will pair great with cognac accessories in the fall, but I'm sure you've already got that covered. :)

I would not have known that sneakers are a new thing for you, Aida--they look great. I am wondering, though, if the length of those culottes really is the right one? They just seem so long.
Love the whole effect of this look on you though. If I saw you on the street I would think you were very nicely put together.

This is so gorgeous! .... Not sloppy at all! These culottes are so romantic and dreamy. I think they are so drapey ... They add an arty vibe to the outfit. And you might have just given me the necessary push to wear my culottes with sneaks. I have been a bit worried that I would look stumpy. Your outfit gives me hope. I am going to try it today :)

Oh, my, how did you nail it??? These culottes  looks wonderfull with that white sweater! I never have thought to try such a flowy, romantic culottes with sneaks but it's delicious!!! Very well done!!!

Thanks for the feedback ladies, it's very helpful! It's always interesting to hear perceptions of outfits, especially so in cases where they feel one way but are seen another. I guess my skewing towards Team Polished helped me out with this one :)

Angie, I think I'm still a Countess or Baroness in the Sneakers Kingdom. Definitely still in training ^^

Claire, I love the idea of pairing with cognac for fall and would you believe I haven't really thought of that yet? All my pairings (well in my head, anyway) are with cream, black, and blue. Definitely adding cognac to the list, thanks!

Alana, the length is quite good on the culottes, especially a really wide pair like these; they just are generally meant to be worn with heels as I did last time I wore these, seen here. Flats can  work, in particular lower-vamped footwear which is a much easier pairing. These are high-vamped but low contrast so it still works, but certainly not as flattering as a heeled shoe would be. If the culottes were slimmer I'd wear them a bit shorter.

Neel, to be honest I did feel a bit stumpy with the sneaks, low contrast and all! But it wasn't enough to diminish my happiness and I enjoyed the trendiness, so I left it.

Are you kidding? Almost sloppy? No way! Love this with the sneaks! Wow first in all black now in sneaks. Rocking the world! This reads super comfy, stylish and all around fab.

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

Aida, you look gorgeous in culottes and sneakers TOGETHER!

All the little structural elements you mentioned give your outfit flow and structure; oh yes, and being comfortable, too.

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Never sloppy, Aida! Your look is voluminous and chic. I love it.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you Jackie, Vicki, and Kelly! I'll shelf the thought of this outfit looking sloppy -- One step closer to being comfortable with sneakers ;)
