WIW 08.10 [another tunic, cropped pants, jacket, and heels]

On the blog yesterday I'd commented that I wouldn't want to wear any of my dresses with the look, but couldn't get this idea out of my head so decided to try it out today before the heat returns in a day or two.

So! Short fluffy white dress with white kick crops and white pumps; I did try a few other shoes (these, these, and these) but liked best the simplicity and cleanness of the very plain pumps. Topped with a cropped denim moto that's actually a very pale gray, about as light as possible without actually being white. Accented with silver (clutch, earrings) to keep with the light and tonal theme plus add a little shine, and finished with bright orange lip gloss to add a little warmth.

Really love how it turned out! (Color me completely surprised ^^) I don't think I'd like it with any other color cropped pants; the all white is definitely the major appeal for me -- arty without the black. Will definitely wear again and going into cooler weather can easily swap the kick crops out for ankle-length white skinnies; and when it's really cold the pumps to cream booties.

As a small aside, I feel entirely comfortable taking a little leeway with the formula and donning a dress that's a bit above the knee vs. at the knee -- I'm short, after all! If any of you other petites are interested but on the fence about this formula, try it with a dress/tunic that's just above the knee for easier-to-navigate proportions especially if heels are out.

This is fantastic! I love the stiffer, architectural shape of the skirt part of the dress with the pants - definitely unexpected and fun. Proportions are amazing.

Interesting and very unexpected.  Awesome proportions and great white-out, too.

How creative! I love the mono-color and all the shapes and textures. Very well done.

You are truly a vision in a light palette. Love this, the proportions look perfect to me.

    Beautiful!

This is gorgeous!!! I wouldn't have imagined that dress would look SO GOOD with crops....but it does!

The all-white keeps the look summery too. Lovely proportions, Aida. You're a true genius!!!!

Sweet sister! This totally works. You nailed the proportions!

This is so pretty!  You nailed this look.

Wow - super pretty. And I totally agree with Diana; there is something really special about the stiffer, architectural shape of the dress here and the shorter shape. It's very striking and works incredibly well. This is one of my favorites of yours. How can something be so white and light yet also be so bold??!

Perfect! I love the pale on pale.

  • Lucy replied 7 years ago

Awesome look!  I love the mix of pales, so glamorous.

Ok, the jacket is one layer too many for me and my obtuse outlook on this outfit formula.
I do love the look without the jacket though, striking proportions, and you look beautiful in all white.

  • Bijou replied 7 years ago

I always admire your use of colour, but this outfit is even more amazing - the proportions and fit work spectacularly.

  • Inge replied 7 years ago

    How stunning is this, WOW!!
And your hair is looking extra gorgeous these days too, Aida!!

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Oh wow thanks ladies! Happy to hear you all liked the outfit as much as I did.

Diana and Vivian, the architectural aspect really appeals to me too!

Angie, hah! Who, me? I will bat my eyelashes extra sweetly ^^

Skylurker, totally fine for you not to be into the formula, I get that :) Funnily enough I prefer it with the jacket even though generally I prefer wearing non-jacketed outfits; I liked the extra white layer it added, how it changed the overall silhouette, and that it made the skin exposure feel most balanced.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the dress over pants look for myself, but I really love this look on you. I'm very partial to whiteouts.

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

Oh, I really like this and it looks great both with and without the jacket. I really like the way you add jackets to your outfits. Dressing for days with  temperature extremes can be challenging.

I like this Aida! The monochromatic white is very pleasing.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Oh, yes!! This is so clever! I LOVE it with the holographic bag! Super fun. This is both pretty and architectural, crisp and soft and yes, soft edge....it's wonderful on you.

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

Amazing!  Thanks for taking the time to share this with us.  Yes, the all white makes it especially special (my new favorite phrase).  This is one you must repeat.

  • AM replied 7 years ago

Wonderful. Very chic but casual. And love the earrings.

  • Jenava replied 7 years ago

You look amazing!  You nailed the all-white trend!  I wore an all-white outfit yesterday but didn't have time to take photos.

    great white out

    Thanks so much ladies!

UmmLila, speaking only for myself, there are definitely some dresses that feel good over pants and some do not. Many things come into play -- the silhouette, the length, even the fabrication. And of course the pants involved. Worth playing around with if you're interested in the look, there seem to be a lot of ways to tweak the proportions to suit your personal taste.

Bonnie, thank you! Nice to hear that about my jackets because I pretty much have to force myself to put on a topper, so they are always quite deliberate in my outfits.

Suz, <3 for soft edge, that's a big goal of mine that I usually feel isn't coming through.

Jenava, I'm sure your white-out outfit was gorgeous!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

I see Skylurker's point. I love the look sans jacket--so fresh and pretty. I would need the topper in some situations, though, so I would add the jacket as warranted (by weather or A/C).

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Sharan, that's exactly what I did :) I was mostly in mild temps that day so ended up not really wearing the jacket much at all; plus it was quite cool in the evening. No such thing today though, eh? Gloriously warm!

  • kerlyn replied 7 years ago

Gosh, great proportions!  And you look lovely in white!
