WIW 08.08-14

A week of somewhat-summery outfits from last month ^^ (This was the week before the Picture Perfect Challenge.)

  1. Monday, worn to work then out for tacos with my husband and a good friend of ours. A rare chance for me to sport yellow+gray, a color combo I really love.
  2. Tuesday, worn to work then to Type Tuesday (gathering of local designers and typographers). Needed something casual-meets-professional, I think this worked nicely.
  3. Wednesday, worn to work. An attempt at "soft" but not "muted" colors, I like how it turned out.
  4. Thursday, worn to work. Sometimes you just want bold and bright :)
  5. Friday, worn to work, then out for date night with my husband (dinner and a movie). The olive+faded blue+white+coral was really snappy in person.
  6. Sunday, worn out to breakfast with my husband.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

Maybe if you keep posting summery looks, we'll keep getting more sunny days like today... :)

#5 is my favorite - I love the soft colors and proportions, and I'm inspired to try something similar with my white blazer - but the entire week is fantastic. And I spy what I think are my old Express trousers that went to the YLF swap in #2!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

They are indeed Kari :D I love the color and weight, but since I don't wear trousers often I don't wear them as much as I should. Get all those white blazer looks in quick, boy did today's air feel like fall!

Aida this would be one of my favourite sets of outfits from you. I love love love #4 and #6. The purple and the red are amazing colours on you. #1 the Yellow Gray combo is devine. I love the balance of that outfit. # 2 makes you look very long and lean. Are you tall? Its very streamlined and very casually elegant. You look great in denim.

  • sarah replied 13 years ago

I LOVE your gold, grey combo in #1, and love how you've picked up the colors in your jewelry. Those wide-leg pants look FAB on you in #2. #4 and #6 are SO GREAT - they are my faves!

  • Sveta replied 13 years ago

OK, I cannot concentrate now on anything else after I saw #4! That one is to die for - I woual copy it in a sec if I had the pieces (which I don't :-))

  • rae replied 13 years ago

Swooning at #4 next to Sveta! black, white, red, stripes, loose jeans... could this be any more up my alley?

  • Phoebe replied 13 years ago

I am loving the gold tones in #1. Very cute and creative outfits!

  • Scarlet replied 13 years ago

These look really good. My favorite is 5.

  • RandomThoughts (Andrea) replied 13 years ago

All of these are really fun. I love your sense of proportion! 2 and 4 are my faves. Love the cropped jacket and the top in 2 and the bold contrasts of 4. AWESOME!

  • Marley replied 13 years ago

Well, I immediately noticed #4 and loved it - for all of the obvious reasons - the black and white striped top is just so great - and I love the color combination. I was so surprised to see you in #3 - because it is so cute (but not in a sickening kind of way!) I love what you've done with your hair in this pic too - it really makes you look taller and since you didn't use muted colors I think it works fantastically on you! The purple in the last photo is a beautiful color for you - you should wear more purple! I liked the neutral vibe of both #3 and 5 as well! #1 - is my least favorite and it probably is because I don't look good in that style of blouse and so I allow my "prejudice" towards that style influence me when I see it on other people. To me the blouse is just too billowey (how do you spell that?) and it adds a lot of lbs. to your slim frame. I just don't think this style looks good on anyone - its not just you (or me!)

Great week, Aida! Tue and Thu are my favourites; one because it's soft and low contrast, and the other because it's, well, not!

  • rute replied 13 years ago

You are getting so much better each day!!!!!!!!!!
    WOW!
My favorite has to be 4, but I love 3 and those large pants on 2 are fabulous!!!
    amazing looks!

  • celia replied 13 years ago

Summer is worth it if only because we get to see your outfits. They are always a source of great ideas.
#5 will be a case study because i do have some. new olive skinny pants.but I love them all

  • Angie replied 13 years ago

    KILLER week.

#4 launched me into orbit, and now I have to recover from flying so fast..but it was worth the trip.

  • Ginny replied 13 years ago

Lots of great looks here, my faves are #2 , 4 and 6, love the grey trousers with the denim. Color combo in 5 is is fresh, but love #6, purple looks great on you!

  • cjh replied 13 years ago

Great week of fab outfits. My favorite is #3, for these details: length and elegant, soft drape of the white top, blue and turquoise colors together, the jeans fit perfectly, AND match your shoes and jewelry (lovely monochrome base but well thought out), and I like your hair up like this.

I also love the gray (taupe?) and yellow print of top #1, but I am also iffy on the shape of these butterfly tops. Is that the name of this style?

Thanks for saving and posting these photos!

  • cobaltblue replied 13 years ago

I too love #4 and #2. I agree about the shape of blouse #1, though the colors are divine.

  • MsMary replied 13 years ago

All of these are just superb! I love the yellow and gray and will have to give that combo a whirl in the very near future!

#4 is just too fab for words ! LOVE!!

And I have all the pieces to copy #5 from the silver hoop earrings to the snakeskin pumps, and I must do so posthaste! Hopefully the weather will still be warm enough this coming weekend!!

  • replied 13 years ago

I always love your outfit posts! A very stylish week. #3 is my absolute favorite...so fun and playful. I also really love #5. The silhouette is basic, but the color combination is unexpected and very pretty.

  • Astrid replied 13 years ago

Great week, I like #2 and #5 best!

  • greenglove replied 13 years ago

What a treat to see these- I love #2. I have not seen such a same tone, monochromatic look done so well. #3 is also a bit of genius. #4 is dramatic but I like some of the others better, probably just personal taste. All of it looks fab!!

  • qfbrenda replied 13 years ago

    Beautiful! #4 is my favorite.

  • Jonesy replied 13 years ago

Great week! My heart belongs to #4, but I also dig #5. I must be the only one but could those gray pants in #2 look a teensy bit too large on you, especially in the crotch area?

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thank you all for the wonderful comments! It's always such a surprise to find out which outfits get the best reviews; #6 was unexpected, I guess should look for more of that purple ;) I can also see that the circle shirt in #1 is not a fan favorite, and I can understand why, but I still love it ^^

Deborah, I am not tall (5'3") but I do wear tall heels (3-4") 0:)

Marley, #3 is definitely sweeter than what I usually wear, and I think that was part of the fun of it hehe! The high bun has been really growing on me this past season, though I just started trying it. I totally understand your bias against the shape of the shirt in #1, it has been challenging to style and I think it works best with high waisted bottoms (I've been calling it a circle shirt because it's essentially a circle of fabric with a hole for the neck, see photo #5 here). If it had another 2" of length I think it would be much easier to work with.

Celia, yay for olive skinnies! I've found them super versatile, and am looking forward to seeing you style yours. If you're interested, here are all the ways I've worn mine.

Angie, woo thank you!! :D And now _I_ am flying fast ^^

Mary, ooh looking forward to seeing your rendition of #5; I can picture it in my head but I know the real thing is going to be even better!

Jean, thanks very much! #2's color palette is one of my favorites, though I don't have anything else in that muted turquoise.

Jonesy, good eye. The gray wide legs are a bit too big in the waist, and are currently sitting in my (alarmingly large) "get these altered" pile 0:)

Aida, I had to rub my tired eyes at the August date! HAHA.

Just be warned: when I come to hang out with you, you should know to guard that black and white stripe top.

    [the scene: Aida's fab house--more exact--her kitchen]
Aida (sipping coffee): I had fun last night, Heather!
Heather (on cup five): Me, too. Well, my flight is in a couple of hours. Thank you for the tacos and beer last night and your hospitality. Come visit me anytime!
Aida (suspiciously looking at suitcase): Um, is that my black and white stripe top stuck in your suitcase zipper...
Heather: Ugh, (shoves it in) no. Yeah, no.....:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

  • Suz replied 13 years ago

I love you at both exremes—the quiet monochrome of #2 and the vivid contrasts of #4. Both are amazing. That top in #4 is stunning on you!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Heather, I am slowly catching up on my WIW posts, gotta keep you on your toes ;) *giggle* Maybe I'll be able to distract you by serving home roasted coffee, add in a little "fun" (hmmm maybe Amaretto?), and hope that I can sneak the top back out before you notice!

Suz, thanks! I definitely find my favorites are those extremes, but it does make it tough to get wardrobe cohesion sometimes hehe.

  • christy replied 13 years ago

Aida, you have such a great sense of style! I think I like 2 and 5 the best, but I'm a neutrals gal at heart! :) Love the nails in #1.

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

#4 is a work of art. And you look great in that purple flyaway cardi! You're really in a style groove - how are you feeling about putting these looks together? Effortless and fun is how it all appears!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks Christy and Una!

Una, I'm feeling pretty good these days though I'm still working on replacing tees with blouses (I need some tutorials, I get totally confuddled when looking at non-tees). Some days are harder than others, but overall I'm pretty pleased! Definitely more hits than misses :) My current challenge is that I need to take, like, everything to get altered and I keep not doing that so fit isn't as correct it should be ><

  • replied 13 years ago

I like the #1 #3 and #4 looks the most. You do well the bold and bright looks! 4 is very striking and I feel very you. #3 is sweet and quirky and 1 is beyond words. I love the shape the color, the everytihing

  • glam on the inside replied 13 years ago

These are great outfits - thanks for sharing. Your hair looks terrific worn up high - a real goddess look! I am also attempting to change teams from tees to blouses - wishing you luck :)

  • Queen Mum replied 13 years ago

love, love, love 3 and 5!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thank you ladies!

Glam, wishing you luck with your transition as well! I'm finding that actually wearing blouses isn't the hard part, it's FINDING those blouses. I still don't quite know what I like, but I'm slowly learning. Thanks also for the sweet hair compliment :)

  • CocoLion replied 13 years ago

Outfit #2 looks like it came out of a magazine. It's perfect. Like Greenglove said, the tones are matching is perfect harmony and the different colors make it interesting/cool.

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

Tee hee, this was the week of light colored bottoms. Something I do not find easy to do and yet you did this stellar here. Great outfits. I especially like #5 but that's probably because I am partial to outfits with blazers. The wide pants in #2 are also quite fab with the denim jacket.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks Denise and Lisa :D

Lisa, tee hee I didn't even notice they were all light bottoms! I wore light bottoms quite a lot this summer; I guess gray, white and light wash denim were my "summer black" ;) I think the trick is to make sure they're not too tight, or pair with other light elements. I could see you sporting #5!

  • Midwest Girl replied 13 years ago

Aida, you well summery and bold colors equally well. The grey and yellow combination is especially pretty on you. That is a color combination I'm drawn to but just don't think it would work on me.
