WIW 08.01-07

Outfits from the beginning of last month. Our weather _finally_ started to pick up in August so I was happy to wear more bare legged outfits :D

  1. Monday, worn to work. I was pretty pleased with this pattern mixing, but my sister and husband didn't like it. What do you ladies think?
  2. Tuesday, worn to work. I felt bulky in this, but maybe I just don't like belting cardigans (I rarely do it).
  3. Wednesday, worn to work. I was really happy with how this turned out! Unfortunately, I managed to get some wicked food poisoning just a couple hours into the day so the outfit was very short lived :(
  4. Thursday. Wasn't quite feeling better after the food poisoning, but I had a brow appointment bright and early after which I met my husband for lunch, then went to work, then out to dinner with a friend (busy day!). Debut outfit of the Hinge peacock blouse, I really really love this blouse and felt super fab in this outfit!
  5. Friday, worn to work then out for date night dinner with my husband. This outfit was too bright for him, but I adore these colors together. Totally want to wear it again (and the Hinge outfit from Thurs!!). I'm so happy that these days I love many of my outfits enough to want to repeat them. This is a Very Good Thing. I'm starting to seriously reconsider my no-repeats policy.
  6. Sunday. Spent most of the weekend gardening and cleaning out my closet. Wore this down to Ivar's (waterfront) with my husband for dinner where I had the Best Salad Ever: Strawberry Onion Caprese. Strawberry slices, onion slivers, fresh mozzarella, basil, all drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. I wish I could eat it every day!

The Hinge peacock blouse with white - fabulous! I'll be surprised if Angie doesn't rate it KILLER.

I love the last outfit as well - who else had a top like that? These are all great outfits, of course.

  • rae replied 13 years ago

WOW, #3 is my favorite!! Totally cool - being that it was sort-lived, I think it can be soon-repeated. ;)

  • replied 13 years ago

The peacock blouse outfit IS killer for me!
I like #2 dress with belt and boots, very cute. I'm not much on the belted cardi/jacket look.
I bet the pattern mixing in #1 looks better IRL.

You look great in all. I could never live with a rule of no repeats- I tend to wear outfits I like over and over.

  • Mo replied 13 years ago

Love those red jeans! #3 with the shorts is great too. Now that I've seen both you and Marley do a white button front with shorts, I'm thinking I'll have to give it a try.

  • replied 13 years ago

I love the cheeky pattern mixing. I too love the peacock blouse with the white (nice bag, too--is it gold?). And the last outfit is totally disarming. Tres adorable!

  • Suz replied 13 years ago

Oh my gosh. My fave is #1. i LOVE that pattern mix! I also love #5; it's definitely not too bright for me! The red jeans are super on you.

  • Sona replied 13 years ago

You know I'm a fan of all your styles. My fav's are 3, 4, 5. The sleekness of the shirt in 3, the gorgeous hinge blouse with its boxy billowing style and the colors in 5 totally rock.

  • nancylee replied 13 years ago

Super cool and confident, as usual! I love all these looks, but especially #3 and #4. That etched (owl?) bracelet in #3 is awesome!!

  • Ginny replied 13 years ago

great outfits you always looks so put together, my faves are 2,4 and 6. I like how you styled the dress in #4 and 6 is cool!!

  • nicoleb replied 13 years ago

Awesome as always, really love that peacock blouse on you! I think that is my favorite outfit but they're all great! ;)

  • Kyle replied 13 years ago

Fab across the board. Love the peacock blouse, the turquoise and red, the aviators, gold blouse, and pattern mix. You are very courageous in your choices and combos, and they work beautifully for you. I also like the way you style your hair for various looks and how that plays into the overall vibe. Young, fresh and fun!

  • RandomThoughts (Andrea) replied 13 years ago

Love it all! I'll have to CC #2, and #3 is my fave. Nice round, Aida. Per usual.

  • Nadya replied 13 years ago

All great, and #1 and #5 I LOVE!

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

Awesome outfits, Aida! I love the pattern mixing in #1. I think it works because of the small print on the top--it almost comes across as a solid. You look so fresh and fun. I'm digging the Target dress and you are giving me ideas on how to style it for fall. I didn't think about trying it with boots : ) LOVE 4, 5 and 6 to death. The Hinge blouse is beyond fab with those white clams. The color combination of 5 is perfection. You look amazing in color! 6 is just rugged and polished--gorgeous print against the blue jeans. Casual me is swooning over that combination--I'd definitely wear that! Awesome all the way around!

  • Sveta replied 13 years ago

I don't feel the pattern mixing in #1 - it feels to busy to me. Maybe if these different patterns were in the same colors...anyway pattern mixing is not my strength so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Maybe belting a cardigan with a skinny belt would work better and seem less bulky to you? Also keeping belt and cardigan a low contrast may help as well.
Cute outfit in #2 - too bad about the poisoning.
Now I LOVE #4 - very chic. Please wear it again. Also I thing it will be killer with the red jeans as well.
I also like #6 very much - yellow and blue together just make me happy.
All in all- fab week, Aida.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thank you for all the lovely comments, ladies! :D

Una, are you thinking of cjh maybe? She picked up this same yellow gingham top recently (Old Navy!).

Tracina, I initially decided on the no-repeats thing to force myself to be creative with my wardrobe items, but it's really opened my eyes to the vast amount of combinations available to me. It's been 1.5 years so far and going strong :)

Claire, the bag is a nicely muted gold, a gift from my sister for my birthday back in May. It's been a great summer bag!

Kyle, thank you very much, I really appreciate hearing your comment <3 I do find changing my hair-do to fit whatever outfit I have on each day a fun "extra" accessory, especially when long like this, so why not use it I say!

Sveta, great suggestions! I will definitely try a skinny belt with #2. Thank you also for your honest opinion on the pattern mix :)

  • Louise replied 13 years ago

    Love them all x

  • Deborah replied 13 years ago

Hi Aida, love your WIW's:) I love how you step outside of the box with your styling. I don't really pattern mix and I don't think I could carry this look off, but somehow you do. To my eye it does clash a bit and I wonder if maybe pattern mixing with more similar tones would create a more streamlined look? The boots in # 2 really toughen the feminine look of the rest of the outfit. Shorts outfit very fresh and makes me think of Audrey Hepburn, maybe it's the way you are wearing he scarf. Peacock blouse is gorgeous and I really like the way you have styled it. #6 is a very cool and laid back look.. I like. And #5 I love it.. it would be my favorite for the week. The colour combination is quite breathtaking and really suits you. What an awesome week in style!

  • Aunty replied 13 years ago

Love them all, but 4 ooooooooooh so gorgeous!!!

  • Sparky replied 13 years ago

Well, I love #1 ~ it's my favorite followed by #5. And that's coming from someone who adheres to Team Minimal, Low Contrast, Solids All the Way, Neutrals Forever! I guess #1 works for me b/c the top has black & gray tones that echo the belt and skirt. It rather looks like a dress to me, so I think that how the two pieces fit you perfectly and look like the same type of fabric (you're not pairing loose & flowy with slim & structured) also helps them work together in my eye.

Hope you recovered quickly from the food poisoning; never any fun!

  • Irene replied 13 years ago

There's so much to learn from you... now I want you to come over and create some gorgeous outfits from my wardrobe :)

  • sarah replied 13 years ago

Great week, Aida (minus the food poisoning - how awful!). I LOVE that hinge blouse on you with the clams. That is such a winning combination. And the pattern mixing works for me. I love it. And the red/turquoise combo is so sweet. Those are my faves, but the rest are terrific, too. I just ordered a gingham blouse from JCrew. I was having a bit of a "what were you thinking?" moment, but you're inspiring me to think that I can make it work.

  • Heather replied 13 years ago

Poor Aida! I'm sorry you were so sick! The delicious strawberry salad sounded like a redemption to mid-week illness. Yummy.

I love the black and white skirt--the print, the fit. I am glad it is out and about and print mixin! :D

Also, I love that you and Marley have inspired our Malina to wear a *gasp* button down blouse!!! Hooray for inspiration and trying new things.

I adore you in the simple jeans and the maize gingham blouse (and yes, it is Cathie who also has that blouse).

I am a huge fan of those maple shorts. <3

You look terrific in the red jeans as always and I love the aqua cardi. :D Try out the maize gingham blouse with those sometime. :D Maybe topped with a denim jacket.

I do not think you look bulky in the target print frock. Next time, what if you top if with something not as matchy, but could still be work appropriate?

I always look forward to your WIW. YLF, Aida.

  • Queen Mum replied 13 years ago

These are all great. I especially love #1 and 2. I'm chomping at the bit to get to wear my peacock blouse.. I love how you put it with the white pants. I'll have to try that!

  • chewyspaghetti replied 13 years ago

Is that just some random guy making faces in the back of #2?
    Hard to pick a favorite.

  • MsMary replied 13 years ago

You are so beautiful that your WIW's are always a gigantic treat!

I want to like #1 but I want our teal pumps with it to tie in the blue from the top.

Everything else is just per. feck. shun.

  • Jonesy replied 13 years ago

You look great every day! I really dig the pattern mixing (no surprise!), and I love the red jeans look.

  • Scarlet replied 13 years ago

So my first comment (because sometimes I need time to percolate) is that whatever you are doing with your hair in 5 and 6, but especially 5 where it is partially pulled back, is SO pretty and flattering on your face. Okay, now I will focus on clothes :)

  • Sylvie replied 13 years ago

My favorites are #1 (pattern mixing works for me - you've got enough unity in the prints and colors) and #4 (perfectly cool, comfortable and chic)

You still look good in #2 but I don't like belting on top of cardigans either. I always feel like that fold of fabric that sticks out over the top of the belt creates extra bulk in my silhouette.

I can't believe you never repeat your outfits! I repeat mine on a biweekly basis.

  • greenglove replied 13 years ago

You are a talented lady- such creative pattern and texture mixing. Nothing is ever expected in your outfits. I was thrilled to see the last one - a colorful grunge look. A treat to see your posts as always

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

#1-I don't mind the pattern mix here, it's pattern mix graduate level in my book.
#2-I'd love to see this with a skinny belt instead. The browns are a nice touch here.
#3-Great outfit, you will have to repeat on a day you feel better.
#4-My favorite of the week, I've worn the peacock blouse a number of ways, but not with white, great idea!
#5-This one did not work for me. I would prefer if the blue cardigan was the same saturation as the pants. The red appear bolder than the cardigan.
#6-Lovely casual outfit, you wear yellow well!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Lots of great feedback. It's been VERY interesting to read the varied opinions on the pattern mix in #1, I think I'll start a separate thread about it.

Airin, if I ever get a chance to visit Spain we'll have to arrange that :D

Sarah, how fun! What color? I haven't worn mine a lot yet but I am sure I'll get a lot of wear this fall (outfits so far).

Heather, I'll definitely give the gingham top a go with the red jeans and aqua cardigan, great idea! Though probably not at the same time ^^ I'm looking forward to seeing Mo's button-up+shorts outfit, too!

Khris, that would be my husband making the silly face in #2 :) He does it any time he's in the background of a photo, whether it's mine or someone random heh. That day my cat was also out trying to get into my outfit photos, too!

Jean, I love the term "colorful grunge"! That sounds just like what my weekend style has been moving towards.

  • Joy replied 13 years ago

Fabulous week! I'm not sure that i can pick a favorite but really like the pattern mixing.

  • Laurie replied 13 years ago

    4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 !!!!!!! and 6!!!!!!.

Wanted to echo an earlier compliment to your hair in 4 and 5 -- having hair issues lately myself, I pay lots of attention. Yours always looks thick and beautiful, but I do particularly like it in those 2 shots.

    4!!!!!!!!!! love it.

  • Marley replied 13 years ago

Wow Aida - I didn't see this thread when you originally posted it, but I'm so glad that I'm seeing it now! Everyday is just fabulous - #1 was never something that I disliked, in fact its growing on me - and I REALLY like it now - so ignore my comments on your other thread, OK? Also, love the turquoise with the tomatoe red, your bracelets and purse in the shorts photo, the boots in the cardigan photo - how about a less bulky looking belt? The Hinge blouse is gorgeous and you almost make me consider wearing white pants - I love the shape of those! Also, your last outfit has given me an idea of how to wear my gingham pink blouse.
Your style is becoming more and more distinctive and creative. Love seeing your pics!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thank you Joy, Laurie, and Marley! :D

Laurie, thanks for the hair compliment! My hair is actually fairly thin (and thinnING unfortunately) so I do try to be extra nice to it, and it's great to know that those efforts show :D One of the best things I found was to replace teasing for crown volume with using a little bit of dry shampoo powder; much gentler on my hair and with very similar results! That is what I used in #4 to get a bit of volume, though I did tease the back just a teeny bit.
