WIW 07.23-27

After realizing the previous week that the shorter hair seemed to require more black, I paid closer attention to it this week. Still wore more black than usual, but managed an all light outfit on Thursday, and a only bit of black in a light print on Friday. It makes me happy to finally figure out how to do this with the short hair because I just don't like wearing very much black in the summer!

  1. Monday; worn to work and the grocery store. Been wanting to style another look with this crane tee, which surprisingly to me doesn't get worn all that much (not sure why, maybe it's the sleeve shape?). Went with my favorite way to wear black this season: with a healthy dose of white and emerald!
  2. Tuesday; worn to work then a last minute Mariner's game vs. Yankees to see NY Ichiro before he leaves Seattle. I've been wearing this hi-low top with gray or white tanks for the lower contrast, but today felt like trying black since I'm enjoying wearing higher contrast looks with the short hair. I decided to wear these printed flats to add both a bit more black and some fun pattern mixing. Also, circular earrings to contrast the sharp geo-print in the tee. It ended up being warm enough at the game that the jacket didn't get worn.
  3. Wednesday; worn out to lunch with my sister, then work and the gym. A somewhat unusual color combo I've been wanting to try for a while, fuchsia and coral. Since the black shorts are a faded black, I chose my distressed oxfords over my usual more refined footwear and am quite happy with how that turned out. Went with my blush purse because, well, there just wasn't enough pink yet (she said facetiously; I'm not a pink girl at ALL).
  4. Thursday; worn to work then the gym. After so many pants/shorts, I was in the mood to wear a dress so I decided to try an all light outfit and am quite happy that this soft color palette works just as well with short hair as it did with long. Also happy to find that I am liking my necklaces just as much as with long hair. This is one of my favorite cheapie jersey dresses, and I was bummed to find this morning that it's starting to pill. Going to try to the razor trick to see if I can coax a little more life out of it before it gets retired.
  5. Friday; worn to a quick stop by Nordstrom Rack (found a great rust colored jacket for fall!), post office, work, then date night with hubby. I know most of us (me included) are into the longer midi hems, but I do still like my shorter skirts; I decided to wear this one, along with the flats, because it's date night and hubbs is a legs guy who much prefers flats to heels. Quite enjoyed wearing the giant earrings even though they're not that visible. Love how they look peeking out from under the curls, will definitely be doing more of this.

    Love love love!

Where do I start? I like how you made the outfit #1 summery with the white jacket. The necklace in #4 is gorgeous. Outfit #5 is something I plan to try for quite some time - b&w with turquoise.

You are obviously having so much fun with your clothes.

Outfit #4 (picture #3) KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK!
And that necklace...OH. MY. WORD. LOVE. ;)

Every time I look at your outfits Aida, they are perfect! I've figured out that you ALWAYS get the proportions right in every single look. That's why they always work. These are all gorgeous!

outfits are great and I love how you explain the thought process and style elements that are so cohesive but not always obvious to another! And I love that light tan/blush bag. Where is it from?

  • Vicki replied 7 years ago

I see a sophisticate in colors and then you surprise me with a sophisticate in neutrals in #4. What can I say!? I love them all!!

A great combination of outfits! Did you notice that you bookended (sp?) your hair color in all but one? It's a really cool trick and looks awesome. That being said, the "light" outfit in pic #4 is outstanding - the necklace just rocks that outfit! I think this proves that you don't have to wear as much black - it may have been necessary to wear more black while you were getting used to your haircut. Just my theory, though! :)

ETA: I'm including the grey oxfords in the bookend-ing because they are darker than the light colored shoes in #4 :)

Fantastic! I love that blush bag!! And I think the last look is my favorite -- so bright and summery!

    Love #1.

Ooh - I'm with Mary K about the turquoise and black and white one. But they're all terrific. I do think bookending your hair with the footwear in most probably helped you feel grounded. But wow, the neutral one is so great. The necklace really works to add the necessary weight or heft. Brilliant.

#1-I am so stealing this outfit idea to wear with my new green jeans. I've been wondering how to style them, thanks! And I like the all light color look, it let's your hair be the star which is stunning in this shorter cut. Just lovely!

I just love your outfit posts Aida! I don't even know which is my favorite is either 3 or 4, with 5,1 and 2 coming right behind. Your hair is fantastic also. The jacket in 3 reminds me of one I once posted for K/T, thank you for showing me how it is done!

#1 is my favorite here but they all look wonderful. Aida I really enjoy and appreciate your creativity and I learn a great deal from reading the hows and whys of your outfits.

    You hair is looks stunning!

Fantastic outfits, Aida! I love outfit #3 the best, the jacket is such a great color on you. I love the blush purse as well. You look very pretty in pink ;) You wear bright colors so well.

Thanks for all the lovely comments, ladies :D It makes me extra happy to read that you all pick up on the little details which are very important to me, I'm never sure how much to say in my descriptions <3 Thanks also for the insightful comments on #4, that was my favorite of the week!

Shannon, thank you! Proportion is KEY for me, especially since I wear so many different silhouettes. I very much enjoy experimenting with proportions, one of my most favorite fashion things. Lots of trial and error when learning to get it right, but then you can really do some fun things :)

Sona, the blush bag is from Aldo but unfortunately I don't see it on their site any more. I have been pleasantly surprised at how versatile a blush handbag is!

Krista, I suspect you are right! I did notice the bookending, which I usually do little of in the summer since I primarily wear nude/light/colorful shoes, though I do it quite a lot in cool weather. I like how it looks a lot more in summery looks with the short hair, which is a bit of a surprise; I suppose I felt there was too much black when my hair was longer ;)
