WIW 06.26-07.01

Some recent outfits! I've started taking Mondays off because in the summer with all the weekend activities, I am rarely able to finish housework/get enough personal time, so my week's worth of outfits will be a bit shorter for a couple months. I just realized after looking at the thumbs for this week that I wore skinnies every day except one! And that I seriously failed at not wearing jeans every day.

Recently I jotted down a whole bunch of both work and casual weekend outfits for those days when I'm struggling in the morning, and especially for weekends when hubby is rushing me (which gives me outfit panic); now if I need a quick outfit I can just pick one off the list, easy peasy. Three of this week's outfits (#2, 4, 5) were taken off the list, so I'd say it's proving super handy so far!

  1. Tuesday, worn to work. LOVE this!! On a whim I decided to button this blouse all the way up (I usually leave it open) and am totally totally smitten with how it looks. One of my very most favorite outfits of the season!
  2. Thursday, worn to work, shopping with my sis, and out for dinner with hubby. Was sick the previous day and still feeling a bit ill, but what better way to combat that than to wear a fab outfit :D I usually wear this vintage blazer in fall/winter, but it's an all-season piece; I think I was able to lighten the rest of the look up enough to feel seasonally appropriate (though it's a wee bit top heavy).
  3. Friday, worn to work, to ferret-sit for a friend, and then out for date night dinner. Lingering ill effects from the cold, and just wanted to be comfy-comzy. I am enjoying wearing my cardigans buttoned up like blouses this season, but most are v-necks and those are a bit trickier. I liked the effect of layering over this bowed blouse, and will definitely try something similar again. Oh and I was wrong: apparently the Report booties DO work with some of my skinnies ;)
  4. Saturday, worn for lunch. Mostly spent the day gardening, in gardening clothes this time ;) Another outfit off my list, which made for very stress free dressing. I am digging this soft coral utility jacket for weekend looks!
  5. Sunday, worn out to brunch with my in-laws for MIL's birthday. Debut of white skinnies (finally!!), but I seem to have shrunken since purchasing so they're a bit looser than I like. I think this outfit worked better on paper than in practice; this new blouse is a lot shorter and boxier than I had anticipated! I was initially going to wear a gray tank underneath, but one of Angie's pinterest pins caught my interest and I decided to try pink instead. I don't wear this type of soft pink much, but I do like how it looks with a black and white graphic outfit.

I am quite in love with #2 and 4! I also like the little pops of coral and emerald throughout the whole series.

#3 is SO clever with the layering of that Bobeau pussycat-blow shell under the cardigan. It really looks like one piece! I am SO going to try that out with mine.

And yes, those report booties totally work with the teal skinnies. Sweet!

I totally LOVE outfits #1 and #4! But they're all great. You look fantastic, Aida. I always look forward to your WIW posts.

Love these! 1, 2, and 4 are my favs. Your hair is just amazing in #4 against that coral jacket. Your curls look awesome....makes me want to grow my hair back out =)

1 and 2 are my absolute faves! I haven't thought of buttoning the Hinge shirt all the way up. And I love your grey skinnies. So inspiring! I see a little veering away from the watercolors, which I also loved but enjoy this little bit of the old Aida with some girly flair thrown in.

1 - Ooohhh, buttoning all the way changes the look of that top. So FAB!

2 - The mix of soft gray and blush with the strong geometric print in bold red, black, and white is unexpected but great!

3 - A cute idea to layer the cardigan with the bow blouse! I'm diggin' the soft neutrals with the bright primaries.

4 - The colors and proportions of this outfit are stellar! This one is my favorite of the week. Nicely styled!

5 - The pink tank was a great choice layer with that top. Again, soft neutrals with a pop of bright. I read in Instyle somewhere to pair pastels with brights. I think I'm going to have to give that a try!

A great week as usual, Aida! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the coral jacket in #4! So pretty with the beads and neutral bag and shoes.

I adore #3 and #5. So much fun, so easy and resourceful.

And those grey skinnies are *smart*, aren't they? Such a neat way to summerize the darker colours! Taking notes...!

Fabulous variety, truly enjoyable. I enjoy each and every outfit and the creative head behind them.

1-My favorite outfit of the group. I really like this top buttoned up and with the grey bottoms. The shoes just make your legs disappear. Lovely!

2-I would never have guessed this was a winter blazer. Great layering here. The printed top is really lovely!

3-I think we are on the same wavelength. I have also been buttoning my cardigans all the way like a top lately. I'm not sure if it's because I'm cold in the a/c at work or because I needed a break from the flapping fabric when I wear a cardigan open.

4-That is a really fun utility jacket. Great pocket details here. I like that they lie flat against the body. Sometimes those pockets are a bit puffy and stick out a little.

5-A pretty, soft look on you.

#1 and #4 are my favorites - you look great in all of them but I like the colors/proportions of those two the best.

I love your sense of style. You even manage to wear pieces I wouldn't normally like and make them work. And I also love how you manage to look bold and unique without going over the top.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments and feedback ladies, I really appreciate them!

Una, good eye! I don't plan to ditch my graphic colors and experimentation, no worries :D Just mix in the odd soft shade here and there; I was on a "learn to soft dress the Aida way" kick for a while there, which I think is about sorted out now.

Una and Manidipa, I have to say I feel gray skinnies are the BEST! One of the few jeans I have that I wear year-round. Sometimes you want lightness but white is too bright, and that's when gray really shines; lightens moody colors or softens brights in a low contrast way. I realllyyyyy hope to find a charcoal pair for fall/winter though!

AJ, thanks for the great detailed comment! I definitely enjoy mixing softer pastel shades with brights, happy to hear that's the modern way to wear 'em. With my high contrast coloring and eternal love for brights, I think this is the best way for me to wear pastels in a way that feels true to me :} Looking forward to seeing your pastel+bright pop outfits!

Lisa, thank you for the wonderful detailed comment! As a member of Team Blazer, I'd nearly stopped wearing my cardigans until realizing that I could button them up like a blouse. As you said, it's really a nice change.

1 and 4 totally rock my socks - that coral jacket never fails to impress. I just buttoned up a shirt during manspiration month, and I was shocked - shocked! - at how well I liked it even with a larger bust. Same with yours - looks fabulous and emphasizes the swingy shape in a good way.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks, Rae! I'm definitely a convert to the buttoning all the way up, and after seeing how well this swingy blouse looks I really want to find another one. The somewhat prim vibe from a normal button-up blouse is pretty fun, too :)
