WIW 06.02 [neckerchief inspired by Joy]

On Angie's post yesterday about the neckerchief trend, I wrote that I'm on the fence though there is a fun retro appeal; I wore them back in my practicing punk/ska days and have a little box full of pretty vintage silk squares tucked away. Couldn't get Joy's fabulous outfit from yesterday out of my head. So! Of course I had to wear something inspired by it today ^^

Pulled out one of the few squares that never got put away in the holding box, vintage to either the 1960s or 1980s. Paired with a "new" oversized boxy leatherette-front tee -- a piece gambled final sale in fall 2013 that turned out a size+ too large, so has remained unworn (could definitely use some taking in at the top and through the sides, if possible). The leatherette part is thick but pliable so it doesn't exactly drape but it also isn't overly stiff; the back/sleeves are ponte. I'm gambling today that it doesn't look as oversized as it feels!

Faded jeans and black ankle-strap flats to finish the outfit, as Joy had in hers. Accessorized with gray rock crystal studs for a little extra glam, striped clutch because two patterns just isn't enough (hah! but, seriously, it's not), retro sunnies to go with the retro vibe of the scarf, and a swipe of cherry pink lipstick for a little sweetness/color contrast.

Surprised to find I enjoyed the little silky neckerchief (probably from the retro/western vibe), and will likely wear one again. Might even dig up an old gray/white bandanna from the motorcycle gear bin for a more casual weekend outfit. Thanks for the inspiration, Angie and Joy!

Aida, this is stunning on you. Absolutely gorgeous. I love the contrast between the silky retro scarf and the tougher leatherette. The top looks comfortably loose not oversized, and it works so well with the light denim. The shoes are perfect, too.

I think I need to go recover from your fabulousness. Phew!

Ooooh! Soooo pretty! I love the juxtaposition with the leather tee. And your hair looks AMAZING.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

I'm so thrilled to have been part of the inspiration for this stunning look. Agreeing with everything Suz and Marianna said.
You turned this "cowboy" look on its head into glam rock star. You hair! Gorgeous!

Perfect! And I love that leatherette top. This reminds me of how we used to wear scarves in the 80s. Great pattern mixing too. YLF!

I can't believe how much I love this! Will be rifling through my scarf collection in response.

  • tulle replied 7 years ago

Wow. You gorgeous gypsy tomboy you.  I'd say that leather top drapes very nicely.

  • Elizabeth P replied 7 years ago

You wear a scarf, no matter the size, like no other.
I like the top, don't think it looks too big at all. It fits like the model pic.

  • Sara L. replied 7 years ago

Great look! The top doesn't look too big at all. I love the neckerchief with it. I have a couple small silky squares that I might try out, but my style is so classic already that I'm worried they'll look old fashioned and frumpy on me.

Perfect, in every way.  You are looking Marisa Berenson 70s glamorous & fab.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

I always love your hair, but the shoes are really fab.

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

Now that's how you do jeans & tee with and still look like star! I LOVE the top.....such a perfect fit & the leatherette makes it look so upscale. The neckerchief is the PERFECT touch here, Aida.

You look like an off-duty supermodel (as always)! I just love the way your clothes skin your lovely figure, your choice of footwear, your ubiquitous clutch and the gorgeous curls. FAB!!!

Super pretty with an edge . Love it . I don't see "too big" at all with the top . In fact , this is sitting just perfectly on you.

  • Mauvish replied 7 years ago

    serious glam happening here Aida!!
    Love it.

  • skylurker replied 7 years ago

    Love. Love. Love.
The oversized sunnies, the neckerchief, the black&white accessories, the leatherette, the proportions, lipstick, hair : love everything.
I find the top a great fit on you actually, and the round hem is very flattering.

Gorgeous as ever, Aida! I love how you tied the scarf, it's masterful. Maybe because the scarf draws the eye, I didn't notice any oversizing on the top until I read your description. And the lines on your bag echoing the scarf just pull everything together so nicely. Retro-fresh!

  • Helen11 replied 7 years ago

Fab all round. You do look like a rock star!

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Wow you aught to be in pictures. This looks like a cover shoot

  • replied 7 years ago

Awesome! Love the leatherette front top...to me the fit looks good and I adore how you tied the scarf.

Your hair is looking amazing too!

  • Janet replied 7 years ago

Love it! That top is perfect on you, and I like the tougher leather with the softness of the scarf. I would try this but it's already too warm here. :-)

  • kimlee replied 7 years ago

I have to echo, Angie, simply KILLER!

  • replied 7 years ago

I love your neckerchief and leatherette top. I really like the stricture it gives.
Would love to see this outfit with some leatherette leggings too ;)

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

I love everything about this - the scarf, the shoes, the top, the jeans. I think the top fits perfectly. And I seriously need a clutch like that.

    Beautiful Aida!

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments, my goodness! So interesting that the top photographs as "easy" versus "oversized"; unfortunately by the end of the day I really did feel overly swamped so I don't think I could happily wear it again without altering unless I was in just the right mood. Hopefully I can have it altered so that it looks and feels, in person, the way that it does in the photographs :)

Denise, what a beautiful woman to be compared to, thank you! She's definitely my kind of glam ^^

Aliona, the scarf tie is pretty simple: fold in a triangle, while grasping the ends twirl around a few times to "roll" about half the scarf, then loosely knot with the remaining triangles askew.

Smittie, hah well I do have some leatherette capris but I think it would feel too hard edged since both pieces are black; if the top was white I'd feel better. I do have a cream sleeveless knit top that has leatherette side panels that I could wear with the black capris though. I'll give that a go with a different scarf next week sometime!

  • kellygirl replied 7 years ago

Wow! You are just stunning in this. Love everything about it. The leather top is just SO cool on you with that neckerchief. I'm swooning!

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

    Thanks Kelly! :D

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

Love the neckerchief look on you!   And the top is fab, too, so I'd encourage you to alter it so you can enjoy it fully!

Do you think you weren't excited by the return of the small scarf because it reminded you of an earlier version of your style?  Sort of a "you can't go back if you want to move forward?"

What if you work one of your favorite scarves once each week?

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

Beautiful outfit. I just saw the pink and white outfit and loved it and this black and blue outfit is just as fab. I always look forward to your posts.

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Thank you Beth Ann and Bonnie!

Beth Ann, I don't really mind earlier versions of my style; I've had plenty of consistent components though certainly dress a LOT better now ;) If anything the scarves remind me of my band days which were lots of fun. I think I just like big, blingy necklaces more right now -- if I'm going to wear anything around my neck at all, since I usually opt to keep my necklines clean in favor of big earrings these days.
