Casual weekend outfits from this past weekend! My husband and I spent the weekend painting and eating :)

I don't know how I mange to fall for this every time, but whenever my husband says "let's go look at paint swatches for the xxx room" this is not-so-secret code for "we're redoing xxx room this weekend"; it's how our powder room, entry, kitchen, upstairs hallways, and living room all changed colors! Our living room had been painted in cream, with white trim, and a sage green accent wall for almost a year now. My entry is also done in the same cream with white trim, and the white tile grout is navy. I LOVE the cream, hubby hates it.

So when he said "let's go look at paint swatches for the living room" I thought, maybe this time, he just means swatches. Nope. Needless to say, after a weekend of work the room is now in hubby-selected-Aida-approved-with-not-so-minor-skepticism colors of greenish-gray, white trim, and much-rosier-than-expected-purple accent wall. AND he added a pretty white trim and did one wall half purple as well. Fancy!

It's a bit girlier than what we were hoping for, so we'll probably change the purple soon (good bedroom colors, though) but the vibe and colors do fit perfectly with our French country home style. We left the wall leading to the entry cream, the fire place brick/couches are also cream, all the wood is black, and the artwork in the room is a moody turquoise. I was very amused to realize once we'd finished that the color scheme is really quite complicated (gray, purple, white, cream, black, turquoise, and touches of brown). Even though I didn't pick the colors, I am in charge of making sure everything "goes" and that color complexity seems appropriate for me doesn't it? ;)

Oh yes, the clothes! Super casual was the order of the weekend. These were all worn to home improvement stores and food places, and definitely NOT worn to paint in. #1 is Saturday, #2 is Sunday, and #3 is a bonus of the newly painted living room (this room is a white balance NIGHTMARE).

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

Casual but very cute! LOVE the necklace and red shoes in #1, and your living room is looking very chic.

You are such a stylish painter and "paint swatch shopper," Aida, and I always get such enjoyment out of your smiles to the camera! You are stylish, because you step it up with your choices in bags, shoes and jewelry. This sets you apart from the masses, ESPECIALLY in the paint department of a hardware (or big box?) store. Your completed room looks amazing and your hubs is showing his fab style in his home projects.

Wow, you look great for running out for swatches. Please don't tell me you painted in these outfits, or I'll have to submit your name for Design Star! Love your living room; it's obvious you guys don't have kids! Someday I'd like light colored furniture, lol!

I was just about to cry noooooodon'tpaintinthat! lol Your slouchy tops make me very happy. My husband is kind of a project tornado as well - why just look at swatches when it can be done now??

Your DH sounds like me when I get in project mode. I like the vibe of your room but it does read feminine with the purple. Nice outfits for a weekend on the go.

Lovely outfits but look at that room! Wonderful paint job!

Thanks for the comments on both the outfits and the room, ladies ^^ No worries, I didn't paint in these getups; part of the deal for changing the colors away from my beloved cream was that hubby had to do the roller painting and I would do detail work/taping/edges as well as clean and prep. So I painted in my PJs! My husband has very fine tastes... it's just not remotely the same as mine in terms of fashion :(

Vicki, thank you for the sweet comment! It was amusing clickety-clacking along at Lowes in my heels ^^

Claire, hah that didn't even cross my mind! Light furniture looks pretty, but even without kids it's a pain to keep it up hehe.

Rae, "project tornado" is the perfect description for his work ethic. He doesn't even like to bring swatches home. We looked at the colors and then got them mixed right up, though we did have to go back for a darker gray (the first wall color choice was white, which was TOO white). And here I had been hoping to relax all weekend. Slouchy tops are making me happy right now, too! I need more :D

You look relaxed, comfortable and FANTASTIC. The living room project turned out great- I don't think it reads too girlie, the purple is balanced out really well. You two could get into decorating.

    They both look great!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Love both of these classic Aida casual chic looks! I like how your hubby operates. My SO likes to study the matter online and with Consumer Reports for about 5-10 years before he springs into action :).

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

Beautiful as always! Adore the second one and your living room is gorgeous.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Oh thank you for the glimpse of your lovely home. Both great outfits that look deceptively simple but, as previously discussed, it all comes down to fit.

I am so with your hubs, Aida, as the compulsive swatch chooser/painter in the family. Phew. I just have to finish painting the garage and I don't have any more painting projects up my sleeve for awhile. You LR looks lovely (altho I had the same thought as Claire ; ) ).

You're outfits are great, too. LOVE the red shoes.

Love both these casual outfits Aida - I must take notes as I'm working on building my casual capsule. And your living room is beautiful!

Thanks for the comments, ladies! And especially for the lovely comments on the room :D

Tracina, thank you for the decorating compliment! I'm glad to hear you don't think it's too girly, we worked pretty hard to try and balance the rest of the room against the purple (and I have a few more things to do to finish it up). We'd been expecting more of a gray-purple and were quite surprised when we saw how rosy it actually was. During the day the light is cool so it's not too bad, but we definitely need to switch our soft yellow lights to cooler ones.

Jonesy, that sounds like me, except without the studying or finishing the project ;)

Sarah, hubby actually picked the red shoes for that outfit. I had light gray on initially, and he said it was too drab ^^

Shannon, casual is my MO! Dressier during the week, relaxed on the weekends.

It seems I am married to Jonesy's husband!! How can that be, I wonder?

I LOVE outfit 1. Yes, I am a sucker for red shoes, it's true, but it just feels so effortlessly chic altogether.

And your room looks beautiful! It is very restful, esp. considering how many colours you actually have going on there. It's all subtly done. Looks like a great place to relax.

Your outfits are lovely but I am bowled over by the blue series of paintings quattro that are in the last picture!

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

Wow, I wouldn't have expected you hubby to pick out a purple. Room looks great and so soothing. Kudos!

The red shoes are perfect for the first outfit and I'm jealous that it's still cool enough for you to wear boots!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

Love the outfits, LOVE the room!!!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Wow, a VERy sophisticated set of swatches in that room, Aida!

Loving your casual looks, especially the pop of bright red shoes against the lighter neutrals.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Lovely outfits! Relaxed casual and very chic. And the room looks wonderful.

  • greenglove replied 11 years ago

Lovely outfits! Your room is gorgeous and represents how well you put together color, texture and proportion- all elements of your clothing style!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments on the outfits (totally in line with how I feel like dressing on the weekends these days) and on the living room! :D It is a very restful room, though I personally rest better in warm shades while hubby rests better in cool shades (of course).

Meredith, thanks! We bought the artwork from a painter on Etsy who let us pick out the colors (my powder room is in a similar, though more muted, turquoise 0:) ), and I have some closer-up photos of it on my blog. Since it's a focal point of the room we considered it quite heavily in this repaint, glad to hear it's standing out nicely!

AJ, I was quite surprised too! He seems to really like color on the walls and in decorating, but not so much in clothing ;) Don't be too jealous of the boot weather, I almost washed away trying to get to work today!

Jean, thank you so much! I don't do a lot of decorating and feel like my abilities aren't yet very refined (and my parents both worked as interior decorators), but I am slowly working on it. I've definitely noticed a strong link between that and my fashion preferences, though!
