WIW 05.26 [birthday edition 2014: getting dirty]

We closed out my birthday weekend with a fun afternoon of very muddy dirt biking! It was a beautiful day with beautiful scenery. Everything was very lush and soooo green and springy. Plus there were puddles EVERYwhere. I got myself stuck a few times and got my fill of splashing around. The bikes were appropriately dirty by the time we finished, as were we ^^ [EDIT: for fun, a gif]

At my husband's suggestion I brought a separate set of clean clothing to change into after riding. Probably the best sartorial approach versus trying to find something that pulls double duty -- it allowed me to be totally worry free about what I was wearing whether that was for packing, riding, or whatever we do on either end (we often eat breakfast out on the way up and/or a meal out on the way home). I am still working on getting dedicated dirt bike gear, but for now I wore an old cotton/cashmere sweater and thick black work pants with my street riding boots and armored gloves. Easy to launder and no biggie when they get muddied up.

After all the bike stuff was done and packed up, I changed into the casual outfit in #1 for the rest of the evening (a favorite color combo: orange + blue + white, this time with a shot of red thrown in there). The hat was necessary to disguise some serious helmet hair ;) I am definitely going to need some summery openweave hats! We stopped for dinner at a little restaurant on the way home and I felt great because I wasn't concerned about looking grimy nor geary. Still getting used to the new camera, so far so good (if a little inconsistent).

OMG, I love the orange, blue and white! So pretty and fresh on you! (The sweater looks red on my monitor but if you say it's orange, I'll take your word for it.) Dirt bike riding looks like muddy fun. Glad you had a great birthday weekend too!

Looks like you had loads of fun! I love your action shots, thanks for sharing. Your outfit looks perfect for a casual dinner out. The checked flag-like shoes are super fun and appropriate given the day's adventures!

    Thanks Ladywone, Kelly, and Karie!

Kelly, the sweater is a red-orange but still an orange. It's tough to photograph!

Karie, hah I didn't even think of the checks going with the theme, now that's clever ^^ EDIT: I'm not going to win any races, that's for sure. This gif is slow, just like I am ;)

I was thinking thw same as Karie with the checkered flag shoes. Love the post riding outfit, you certainly look no worse for wear :) pretty fabulous! I think the splashing mud would bother me!

I cannot believe you came through that mud and managed to look to fresh and clean. Love the bf jeans with the checkerboard shoes with the brights. (Straw hats are the best for the heat.)

Sounds like you had lots of fun all weekend! Outfit looks great. I especially love the checkered flats.

Thank you ladies! You pretty much have to accept the mud to ride out here ;) I did have a good giggle to myself that I was wearing cashmere out in the mud, even if it was just one of hubby's old sweaters. What can I say, YLF to the core ^^

Shevia, oh I definitely got muddy! The full helmet helps with my face, gloves with the hands, and the rear fender does an impressive job at keeping most mud off my back. But the pants and boots get totally mucky. I also don't do much yet, I'm still learning; I've seen how my very skilled hubby looks when he returns! Plus the water actually seems to help wash some of it off hehe. For you, a photo just after we got back to the truck -- I don't even have my hat on yet. A full change of clothes does wonders!

What a fun outfit and great way to end the birthday celebration!

I really like this!  The pattern mix between the belt and shoes caught my eye first, after taking in the gorgeous orange red top.  Since I missed your Birthday thread, I'll say it here.  Happy Birthday!  I'm so happy you're active on the forum again.  :-)
