WIW 05.24 [birthday edition 2014: ballpark]

I must start by again thanking everyone who posted birthday wishes on the birthday thread, I was so touched by all the sweet comments. Thank you all so much <3

First up, the day! My husband and I started with a delicious breakfast at Chandler's Crabhouse, where I had a yummy crab cake benedict and coffee cake (#2, 3). After that, we met my sis at the ballpark where we spent the rest of the day and evening (#4). I was hoping one of us would catch a BP or foul ball, neither of which happened, though my sister found a mystery ball (scuffed and unstamped!) tucked underneath her seat so we're counting it :D Unfortunately the game was a blowout in the wrong direction, but it was '70s throwback night (#5) and we still had plenty of fun. Any day I can spend at the ballpark is a Good Day.

Second up, the clothes! I wore a reprisal of Thursday's ballgame outfit but swapped the cream heels out for nude booties (the better to walk all day in), along with '70s-inspired sunnies and sequins. For breakfast, I substituted a sheer silk blouse for the hoodie (#1). I had a teal tank on underneath so it wasn't a big deal to pop off the blouse and pull on the hoodie at the ballpark. I should've also grabbed my furry vest to really go for the 70s night thing!

Third up, sartorial gifts! I'd asked for a pretty purse, so I knew that one was coming -- unfortunately I'm not sure if I'll be keeping it, as the scale feels too large on me (#6). Still debating; I do wish it was 60% the size. But the big surprise was what I found inside the purse. Remember how I broke my camera on Thursday? Well what I didn't know is that my very sweet husband promptly ordered a new one on Friday and had it overnighted. I had no idea! I'm counting this as a sartorial gift because, well, the camera's primary use is to take my outfit photos every morning ^^ Sissy's gift will show up later, I'll share it when it does.

All in all I had a lovely day! Birthday weekend continues: Today (Sunday) we're relaxing at home, and tomorrow (Monday) we're planning to go out on the dirt bikes. Hope you're all having a fabulous weekend! Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

It's a gorgeous bag!  I see what you mean about scale...but it doesn't really look THAT huge on you, FWIW.  (-:

Love you in those flares and sunnies!  You were meant to rock the 70's look.  Happy Birthday!!  Wish the weather was nicer for you.

Looks like you had an amazing time! The outfit looks amazing and I love the 70's vibe! Also - you have such beautiful skin!

Those jeans on you--so fab with their 70s vibe! Love the big round sunglasses, too. These photos paint the picture of a very fun birthday. And what a wonderful, sweet surprise of the new camera inside your purse. The bag does look a little big, but that doesn't mean you couldn't pull it off if you want to. Just takes attitude.
I had the same dilemma with a black bag a while back. I ordered it online, and when it arrived it was perfect--except it just looked too big for what I wanted. I reluctantly returned it, and then I came across the perfect sized bag very shortly afterward.

Thanks for sharing your day with us! It looks like such fun.

Your outfit was SO fab! You look really great in those flares. FWIW, I don't think the bag looks too big, but if you're not going to fill it up with stuff on a daily basis, a smaller bag might well be more practical.

Thanks ladies! I'm happy I could share my fun day with you gals ^^ I should say, regarding the bag I'm more worried about how large it looks on me more than it being too large for my things (which it is, but that doesn't bother me). I don't carry large bags, so I wasn't sure if it I'm just not used to the look or if it's truly too large (it's wider than I am!); I kinda feel like a little kid playing with her mum's things ;)

Jenava, we lucked out and had beautiful weather while we were outside, but rain on either side!

Lol... Aida here's a confession!! I figure the larger the bag, the smaller I look :)  Not that you need to be concerned about that.  I like the bag alot and I do likethe size, it doesn't look too big to me. Photo attached ... now that's a big bag.

You're hubby gets big brownie points for the camera.

Sounds like you had a lovely day.

Aida, the silk blouse is lovely and it goes so well with your flares. What a great outfit and great day. Gosh your breakfast looks so yummy!

Isn't your DH a sweety for getting the camera. Your bag is fab too. I like a mid to small size bag myself so I get your dilemma. You can ponder for a few days before thinking of returning though?

What fun photos of your day! I particularly like the reflection in the sunglasses :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

What great looks and great photos! Your blouse with the flares is fab, breakfast looks yummy, and ball game such fun. Keep celebrating. Love the new bag.

Happy, happy birthday, Aida. It looks like you had a ball (game)! I see what you mean about the bag - I guess it just depends what you're after.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Beautiful pictures Aida! I bet the camera is killer :) Your outfit is stellar as always and your DH is a keeper :)

I love your bag too and don't think it looks too big on you. But then I have totes that are half my body length ... Lol. I have a thing for big bags :D

No time or energy to comment on what you want comments on, but I did want to wish you a happy birthday.  The headshot of you above is beautiful!  Hope you had (and are continuing to have) a great day.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Sounds like a fantastic birthday and you look great! Don't know what I would do about the bag - it is big, but you could pull it off you want.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Aw, Happy Birthday & thanks for sharing the pics of the day! Breakie looks so yummy! You are glowing for your bday. Beautiful purse and how thoughtful of your DH to tuck a camera inside - lucky you!

  • Freckles replied 9 years ago

Great pics of a wonderful day.  Love how you have made the quick switcheroo from blouse to hoodie.  That is really using your closet to the max.
Gorgous bag.  My problem is that the bigger they are the more I put in them and can't carry the load.   Good luck with your decision.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

YAY. The bag is big - but you carry it off, Aida. Your curls balance out the size of the bag. Have a little think about it.

A beautiful birthday weekend for a lady who is beautiful both inside and out. xo

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Beautiful pictures, did you take them with your new camera? How sweet of hubs to get it for you for your birthday. I'm going to be making my big camera purchase in the next month or so, any recommendations?
And you really rock that '70's vibe! I like the purse a lot and I don't think it looks too big (but then I like big purses). The silk blouse is beautiful. As for the hoodie, well, you know my preference there….and as an aside, I know it's early in the season, but our teams have simply got to start doing better! My Phils are now 6 games back and in last place…boo…

But yes, I am in total agreement, any day at the ballpark is a good day!

  • E replied 9 years ago

I missed your bday thread (not a lot of forum time lately), but happy belated birthday! :) A great outfit for what sounds like a great day.

  • Parsley replied 9 years ago

Belated happy birthday, Aida! It looks like you had a fab one!
I love the new bag- it doesn't look too big to me! And how sweet of your husband to replace the camera so quickly.
You look terrific in the silk blouse and flares!

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

So glad to know that you had a wonderful day! The food looks delicious and the new bag looks like a great addition to your wardrobe. I do not think that it is too big for you. Hubs is so sweet to get you a new camera.

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

You are one stylish birthday girl! What a fun day. The breakie looked amazing and dh's snack at the ballpark looked pretty good too! I really love that graphic style purse for you. I think the size suits you but I can understand if you wanted something a little smaller. PPP, right?! Thanks for sharing your birthday adventure.

  • EveningMood replied 9 years ago

Happy belated birthday, glad to hear you spent it having so much fun and getting spoiled. I love the bag and it seems to go with your style; I think I am about the same height as you and I often carry large bags, but that's more because I need space for children stuff than preference. If you normally carry smaller bags, this one might feel cumbersome, and you can probably find a similar design in a smaller size!

  • lyn* replied 9 years ago

Fabulous looks for you, birthday girl! I love the way you can mix high and low pieces (F21 earrings!) and make an outfit all your own. And as ever, I am envious of your beautiful curls! Hope you had a good one! (mmm, crab!)

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 9 years ago

Fabulous photos and so glad you had a wonderful day!  Love the 70's look!  DH is so sweet to have ovenighted the camera!

  • JG replied 9 years ago

Stunning photos of what looks like a perfect birthday. You look gorgeous and happy in each one. I love the blouse. The camera was such a thoughtful gift! I've developed almost a poison eye for big bags since I stopped working and can blithely carry a lightweight bag, but you should be guided by your needs and your exquisite taste.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Aw thank you all so much! I'm really happy with how I was able to make the outfit appropriate for both events with such minimal change, as this is something I often struggle with. All the photos were indeed taken with the new camera (Canon Powershot S120), I've always loved how Cannon's color profile makes my skin look. Thanks also for all of the thoughts on the purse, I am still thinking on it. A gal needs at least one giant purse, right? ^^

Karie, our teams must have read your post, they both won today! One game closer to the Mariners-Phillies World Series :D
