WIW 05.23 [early to rise]

Today I had to get up several hours earlier than normal to carpool with my husband so I could get my car, which I left at his work before the baseball game yesterday. I am not in the least a morning person, so you all get to enjoy super sleepy faces. As I mentioned in my comment at the end of yesterday's post, at the game I managed to drop and break my beloved little camera. The one I've used daily for the past 4 years to take outfit photos. Hubby insists that it'll be good to upgrade but I'm not looking forward to it at all >< We'll tinker with the camera this weekend and see if it's fixable, preliminary signs unfortunately point to no. I'll be using a cheapie backup point-and-shoot until we find a good replacement but the exposure and processing on it bothers me tremendously. Bah. That's all the complaining I'll do about the camera, please pardon the (hopefully) short-lived lapse in my usual photo quality :)

Hubby was sweet enough to snap these photos real quick before we left this morning. Plus I was able to stop by a favorite little bakery that I don't get to visit often after moving away from that area, and had a delicious spinach and goat cheese baked croissant for breakfast. Yum! That was enough to perk my day up ^^ I also ended up having an impromptu birthday lunch out with my folks and sister in the middle of work, finished off with birthday boysenberry gelato. More yum!

I'm pleased with the outfit, even though I was totally half asleep when I put it together! I went into full auto-pilot mode, relying on a favorite fall-back formula, but one I usually wear in fall/winter -- it's extremely gloomy out today, rain galore. Decided to go full on with the neutrals because I knew they'd all work nicely together without having to think about it. I was planning to put my hair up but couldn't muster the energy, so I popped on a new extra slouchy openweave beanie. Happily I did have enough thought-power to swap my purse things to the taupe clutch (the black foldover from yesterday would've looked silly) as well as grab a cheerful bright orange lip balm. A success considering how ineffective I usually am when that sleepy!

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

You had a busy morning and don't look sleepy at all to me – great look, when I saw the thumbnails I thought your top was off the shoulder because of the top tan stripe.

To answer your question about my nail polish in my recent post, it's Maybelline Color Show Holographic "Lavender Luster"   - glad you liked it. My current fave is a metallic silver: China Glaze 627 Platinum Silver... looks great with black workout gloves :)

    Happy Birthday for this weekend!!!

    Happy Birthday, Aida!
Your auto pilot is well practiced, the neutrals are really nice and you don't look tired. But getting up several hours early - not fun! Yum for the croissant, mmm.

You did a fabulous job of bookending your footwear with your cappuccino ; )

You look great! I never would have guessed you were sleep- and camera-deprived.

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

    Yum!!

*waving at my sweater twin*  I love to wear that sweater with my nude boots, too!  You look fab, fab, fab!

    Happy birthday!

You still look great even though you had to rise so early. When I have to rise early, the result is not nearly as photogenic and would probably scare small children. :^)

I love how the colors in the top are picked up by other elements in your outfit. Beautiful!

Happy Birthday lovely Aida!! Glad you had a wonderful time with your loved ones! And this FFBO is just brilliant! I think the tight shorts look works because of the tall boots? I wonder if this would look equally good with say booties or pumps? Just thinking of ways to wear my shorts this summer.

Sorry about your camera :( I broke mine during DS's bday party. And the battery slot cover chipped. Every time I used it after that, I would have to hold the battery in place with one hand and shoot with the other. Argh! A true pain. I still haven't gotten around to fixing it!

Yum is right! Love the patterned hose in this. It elevates the shorts look from great to awesome. Every little detail is always just right--even when you are sleep deprived. You must dream fashion too! Looking fab as ever!

Just goes to show you can put outfits together in your sleep that others of us can only dream of!
The neutrals are gorgeous together, and like kellygirl, I really like the way the hosiery dresses up the outfit and adds texture.

    ^^what Firecracker said.

You may have been busy but boy that is beautiful. Love the way warmer clothes look so summery thanks to the tan shoulder stripe giving a bare shoulder effect and nude boots. Excellent bookending too. V V smart.

Oh, and happy birthday! wish you lots more celebrating.

This is a cool look.  I like the shorts and beanie.  The seasonal confusion is so on trend!  Happy Birthday … now off to inspect your other outfits!

PS -- I'm not a morning person either.

Oh, the nude boots, the textured tights, the knit beanie, tweedy check shorts... a feast for the senses and all harmonising beautifully. Yummy breakfast BTW. And I'm not much of a morning person... or middle of the day... or evening... ^^!

    Looking good birthday girl!

Happy Birthday, Aida! :) You don't look tired at all. Love the outfit, the neutrals are so fab together and the shorts and slouchy beanie give it such an air of relaxed chic. And I'm sorry about the camera. I would love to know what you end up getting as a replacement in case you have to replace it, I still haven't decided yet.

  • Ingunn replied 9 years ago

Welcome to the club of sleepy faces! I'm definitely not a morning person either. I'm impressed that you, although tired, managed to give this much thought to your outfit. It definitely is up to your usual standards. I love how the neutrals play against each other, and the boots/shorts/beanie pairing looks almost seasonless in these colors. I'm sorry about your camera, good luck with mending or replacing it.

Happy Birthday! I always look forward to your WIW posts, you have such great style...even when you're half asleep. I'm learning a lot from you!

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

Happy Birthday, Aida! You look sensational in textured hose and shorts. This sweater is my favourite on you and Ms Mary. Sorry to hear about the camera. Hope you find a replacement soon. I know it can be such a pain.
    oh and Happy Birthday!

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

I think the color palette works well perhaps because you're wearing shorts and there is a light blue stripe in your sweater. I like the sophisticated color pairings and think it's an interesting take on spring. I especially love the hosiery with the boots and think it's stylish and playful with the tailored shorts.
I am sorry about your camera. I had the same thing happen to me at the end of last summer. I'm sure you'll find one that works well for you as an upgrade (If I can upgrade anyone can! ;-) )
Happy Birthday! The croissant sounds divine!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Welcome to the early morning risers crowd!  This outfit is one of my favorites - I love how the taupe in the sweater bookends with the boots, and that you're wearing this with shorts, not a skirt as might be more expected.

That's too bad about your camera - my nice (translation: expensive) camera met an untimely demise in Lake Ontario last summer. We retrieved it, but were unable to revive it. Fingers are crossed that you'll be able to fix yours!

    Happy Birthday!

  • celia replied 9 years ago

    Happy birthday!
Love the way you rock the shorts with boots.I am wondering if I can recreate this formula with some bermuda shorts and a striped sweater that I have....
Sorry about your camera, I know how it feels to ruin something you like but hubby did a great job with the photos.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Great FFBO! I really like that sweater & love the beanie!

    Happy Birthday to you!!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks very much ladies! I'm glad my FFBO resonates, it's one of my favorites. And you're all far too sweet about my sleepy faces and skills, but I appreciate it :)

Gracie, ooh thanks for the polish recs, I'll check them both out. I love silvers ^^

Neel, I only wear baggy or slouchy shorts, the shorter the baggier. For me, keeping them from feeling bombshell is important so that tends to dictate the footwear I pair. Fall/winter weight shorts get paired with tall boots (heeled or flat) both with or without tights, and also sometimes with tights+flats. Summer shorts get almost exclusively paired with flat footwear; as much as I like the look with heels, it's just too bombshell for me.

Denise, hah if Ms. Springtime can be confused then so can I, eh? ^^

Astrid, hubby bought me a Cannon Powershot S120 as a replacement. It's the current upgraded version of the one I broke, so far I like it. Similar interface, decent sensor, and much improved color contrast. Nice solid case. It's still on the lower spectrum for optical zoom, but that is OK with me.

Wow! I really love EVERY bit of this! I want to steal that hat with every fiber of my being! :) You look AMAZING!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you! The hat's still available, you can find it here :)

  • Ledonna N. replied 9 years ago

Happy, belated and you really look great for early morning sorry to hear about your camera but, it's nice to know that your husband could replace it.

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

You dress very well for sleepy!  I think this is my favorite outfit of yours lately because it has a lot of interesting elements to it and a arty vibe.  The texture hose, the neutral and tall boot, wearing shorts with boots, and the fun beanie.  This is a great outfit!
