WIW 05.16-20 Painting inspired edition

I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Picture Perfect Challenge! Most of these were quite out of my comfort zone/new styles to me, but I was pleased with the whole lot and feel like these are all looks that are a step further than what I'd put together normally; would love to hear what you all think about what it is that makes this so.

  1. Monday, worn to work then out for tacos (discussed here).
  2. Inspiration for #1: Picasso's "Boy with a Pipe"
  3. Tuesday, worn to work (discussed here).
  4. Inspiration for #3: Klimt's "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I"
  5. Wednesday, worn to work (discussed here). This is how I plan to alter these cropped cargo pants, what do you all think? For original length, see photos #9/10 here.
  6. Inspiration for #5: Picasso's "Nude, Green Leaves and Bust"
  7. Thursday, worn to work then out for dinner (discussed here). Team Short Shorts, I humbly join your ranks :)
  8. Inspiration for #7: Picasso's "Dora Maar with Cat"
  9. Friday, unexpected day off but ended up doing yardwork so not worn out (discussed here). New blazer. Swapped the shorts for olive skinnies in the evening for date night.
  10. Inspiration for #9: Van Gogh's "Irises"

Just for fun I thought I'd add a little about my "half planning" and how much I had to change a lot of these outfits due to weather.

For #9, my original plan was written down as follows:
    white blazer
    chambray shirt
    mustard belt
    mustard necklace
    olive skinnies
    brown pumps

Key elements are there, but the items themselves are certainly different. Good lesson learned for me that planning full outfits doesn't work for me :)

All of these look great! I didn't get organized enough to do this challenge, maybe the next one, but you did a fantastic job. Wasn't all the sun a nice change! : )

Outfit #2 is amazing...I love everything about it! Such great pattern mixing, edgy vibe, and fabulous snake skin shoes!!

I also really like your last outfit. I'm enjoying shorts w/ blazers right now and I really like your breezy, sophisticated interpretation. The yellow is super fun too!

I love seeing how the colors and patterns inspired you - what creativity you possess! I really like outfit #2 with the turquoise ring. Brilliant. And wearing your loose scarf in outfit #4 seems like a great way to keep wearing scarves on into the hot weather. And the colors in outfit #5 are delightful.

    Thanks ladies!

Amy - The sun was glorious, short as it was :D Thanks for bringing some back from Cali with you ^^

Sammi - Hehe, I have shorts+blazers on my mind too! Loved the look you posted and am totally wanting to find a good pair of denim shorts now.

Sarah - Thank you for creativity comment, fashion is my main creative outlet these days so being able to combine it with great art really inspired me; I'm glad it shows! The loose silk scarf in #4 was one of my favorite finds of the week, hadn't tied one like that before. Definitely useful for warmer weather, just wish more of my scarves were large like this one.

Now that I see all of your outfits juxtaposed with the paintings, I am even more impressed. Your interpretations were spot on and very interesting. Somehow I had missed your #7 = fantastic. LOVE #3 - you must wear that again. All of these outfits prove once more what great sense of style you have.

You are so inspiring to look at. These outfits are amazing- all of them. I think what is so wonderful is the unexpected mixture of patterns, colors and proportions. That is what great art does. Your interpretations are spot on. You have captured the mood of the paintings in very unique ways without being literal. Very fab!

great week of inspirations Aida! I have to say that Target dress is 1000% more flattering on you than it was on me. You go girl!

Aida, you really knocked this challenge out of the park! I especially loved your interpretation of Adele! And the irises! And Dora!! Just amazing!!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone! It's always lovely to hear compliments but I have to say I am incredibly happy on a whole different level that so many of you appreciated my interpretations of the artwork on an artistic level. I've a renewed vigor to continue experimenting with proportions, color, and pattern :D

I still want to do this challenge if it ever stops raining in NJ. I love your outfits, #9 is my favorite but I can see the inspiration in each outfit. Great job!

Thanks Lisa! I do hope you'll post your outfit interpretations if you get a chance to do the challenge, would love to see what you come up with :)
