WIW 05.12 [black and white and periwinkle kitties]

We're slated to have some wonderfully summery weather this week, and today didn't disappoint! 75F at my house, but all the way up to 85F over where I had to run errands. Including picking up my flares from the tailor which is located a few cities away and near my husband's work, so we also had dinner out there before heading home. When I picked up the flares I tried them on and the length seemed good; when I tried them on again at home I found that they're actually a bit too long! Like a half inch or so. Debating what to do about that. Since the bell is still a good size and the denim is soft, it ends up with a slouchy hem break instead of the cleaner 70s bell that I was after. Debating whether to leave it or what. Not really looking forward to driving all the way back out there, telling him that actually the length wasn't right, and then waiting another week for them... Although I suppose by the time they're done the weather should cool back down again :\

Today I figured I'd be inside and running around a bit so I wanted easy-breathing and somewhat covered, which ended up working well since we had dinner half-outside and it was so deliciously warm. Started with the white pumps, since I wanted them for trying on the flares, and these silk/cotton cargoes then went from there. Kept up the silky theme and paired the kitty-print silk blouse since I'm loving my pastels with graphic white/black this season, with sleeves up and semi-tucked for structure; sleeves up also helps with warmth, and the belt adds some extra white in there (I love the double belt loops with the white, too). Accessorized with metals, rose-gold for the watch and white for the hoops, along with a metallic bag. Rounded out the look with soft curls and better-than-nude sheer coral lip balm for a natural/boho touch, and a pair of new peachy almost-round sunnies.

I love the print of that shirt! And the white/pale accessories totally bring it out! You look great!

A shame about your flares- at least they are not too short, I guess!

Love the Kitty blouse, and the way you have arranged the neckline.
Reminder to self to wear my off-white belt- yours looks great.

Nice summery outfit, to match the weather :) The white touches are lovely and I like how your earrings echo the round sunglasses frames.

Pity about your flares, but as Lyn said, good job it wasn't the other way round. Maybe you should post a pic so we can help.

That's too bad about your flares. Wear them around the house a little and see if it will really bother you or not having them at this length. The silky cargos look oh-so-comfy, I like how you have them scrunched just below the knee. And I just love that kitty shirt!
I just purchased the Bella Vita pumps - I almost tried them a year ago but was looking for a shoe in a different color, so I passed them up - this was the spring of the white shoe purchase, so I thought I'd give them a try. They are so comfortable! I can't wait until my surgery foot heels so I can actually wear them.

I love how you pair pumps with cargos! These were just added to my shopping bag. How do you find the fit?

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Looks fab! I like how you point out your lip colour too. I wear it on a daily basis, but now I find myself putting thought into it a-la-Aida as I put on a "swipe of tender heart" or what have you :)

I'd personally wait on the hems. For some reason I always find that no matter what, my jeans shorten up as they go. You certainly have reason to go back, but I'd wear them a few times first just to be sure. Can't wait to see them!

    Fabulous outfit!

I would also wait on the flares. Try them on for a day and see if they shrink with washing.

This is a fun warm weather look, and a nice change from short shorts.  Pretty colors and print on the top too.

I'm waving at my shoe twin, and admiring your fabulous outfit. I love those trousers. xo

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

I love that top! Fun, unexpected, and gorgeous on you.

Thank you ladies! Thanks also for the thoughts on the flares. My concern with waiting too long is that I'd rather not pay a second hemming fee, as this tailor is rather pricey for that service (the jeans were already quite expensive for me in the first place). Would it be weird to go back after several days and tell him that I decided they were too long after initially telling him the length was good? I could try washing them though I don't expect them to shrink much if at all.

Karie, you will be very happy with the pumps! I'm debating picking up a backup pair which I never do, they're that comfortable.

Joy, the pumps run true to size. I usually wear a 7.5 or 8, often sizing up to 8 for pointy pumps which is what I did with these. The 7.5 was exactly the size of my foot, and the 8 is a little big but remedied with an insert. The leather is very soft and will stretch a bit.

Jackie, how fun :D I know many people don't like to change their lip color up, but I really enjoy skewing the color of my lips one way or another to match my outfits (all my lip colors are sheer).

Aww, periwinkle kittehs!  I love!  Those drawstring pants look great too.

Helloooooo, Kitty Shirt Quintuplet! You look gorgeous! I wouldn't have thought to pair the blouse with long shorts/short pants, but it looks phenomenal.  You've inspired me.

BTW, bought the silly expensive Oribe curl enhancing mousse and it is truly amazing.  Totally worth the silly expensiveness.  Thanks for the tip!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I don't think it's weird to go back at all, I'm sure it happens all the time. With the BVWow shoes, they do fit true to size. For me, it was the lower end of my size range (8.5N - 9N, and the 8.5N fit perfectly). Very comfy shoe!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks Alicat, I knew you'd like the kittehs ^^

KP, wooo I'm so glad the mousse worked for you! And gosh, I've been buying it at the salon so apparently it's even more silly expensive for me. I'm definitely going to order from Amazon from now on. One of my favorite things about it is that it works for both wet AND dry hair. Since I don't wash my hair daily, on off days I can scrunch in a little mousse to get the curls to redefine (or pair with a little water for even more definition) with a quick spin in the diffuser. Are you able to get more curl with it or is it just helping the styling last longer? I'm curious what it does with more wavy-inclined hair. Also, if you do the kitty shirt+long shorts I'd love to see it :)

Karie, thanks for the thoughts on the tailor. I'm still mulling it over. I think I will try washing the jeans tonight and letting them air dry, then go from there.

I've been eyeing similar cargoes as what you're wearing. You really wear this style well, and I love the top you wore with the pants!

  • dustt replied 9 years ago

kitty shirt is bonus - you had me at the black clamdiggers with white belt & Shoes!! - love those ladylike white pumps with the slouchy  clam-digger-esque cargo pants with ties!!

  • K. Period. replied 9 years ago

Aida, it makes my hair way curlier! My DH (lovingly) describes my natural hair as bad '80s rocker chick hair. Sadly, he's right.  It is slightly wavy and frizzy.  This makes it way curlier.  Pics of it today attached.  It'll look even curlier tomorrow when it is second day hair.  And my curly haired friend was absolutely amazed by how well it worked.  She's ordering a bottle of the mouse too.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thank you MsKatieKat and Dustt!

MKK, if it helps in your search, these are actually cropped silky cargoes; I pushed them up below my knees and tied the ends tight enough to stay put.

KP, oh WOW that's fabulous!! Really highlights the layers perfectly, thanks so much for the photos. Interesting that yours gets curlier on the second day, I tend to sleep out half my curls each night and have to add them back in hehe. My hubby also describes my hair as 80s rock hair, but uhhh 80s metal guy hair in my case ;) I have to say as an added bonus, I get a ridiculous amount of compliments on the delicious smell of that mousse too. Yay again, happy it's working well for you!

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

@Aida: thanks! I try to wear these types of cargoes that way, but I never had luck with the way they look. I believe because most of what I tried on are made of a stiffer cotton. If I find a pair of silk cargoes like that I should try it out. Thanks!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Hm yeah the stiffer cotton ones are definitely trickier. I'm actually wearing a pair like that today, will post it a little later when I get some time to put the photos together. The key to the cotton pairs is to go for a slim cut that's not too long to begin with since cotton doesn't exactly pouf out in a nice way :)

  • Kristin L replied 9 years ago

Brilliant outfit! I like how the light shoes kind of bookend (or echo, I'm not sure which term is right) the lighter colors in your top. And the cats are adorable.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love the outfit (I think I always love you in those shorts with the white pumps) and the light blue top looks great. Intrigued by the curl mousse. I have been using catwalk curls have you tried that (wondering how it compares)?

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

@Aida: ... And it's soooo tricky to find slimmer cut cottons cargoes! The stiffer ones bunch up all weird when the ruching/band is pulled just below the knee!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks K! I think both terms would work in this case :)

Shevia, I haven't tried that one, how do you like it? Part of why I use the one I do is that it's light as air, so it doesn't weight down my thin, fine hair. I think that most curl mousses will have a similar effect. I find creams a little too heavy but they are very good at what they do if you have the hair texture to support it. I actually used a very lightweight cream when my hair was long; since the hair drags the volume down on its own by being heavy, I liked the stronger definition the creams gave me. Lack of sulfates is something to keep in mind, too.

MKK, I hear you! I've had good luck at LOFT over the past few seasons. Not sure what they have this year, but it's worth a look. Thinner cottons work best, but unfortunately don't offer as much "coverage" in terms of feeling, you know?

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

I've been getting a lot of my clothes in LOFT since last year. I have had some pretty good luck with them - even with pants! So I'll give them a try! Thanks for the recommendation!

  • ManidipaM replied 9 years ago

Beautiful. Sigh... So pretty with just the right dose is sass from the pants to stop it being too sweet.
