WIW 05.09 [inspired by Angie's khaki formula]

OK work with me here! These aren't true khakis but they are a light cotton twill, and embody the "close enough" aspect this outfit has to the ensemble even though I do not technically have one element in its title ;) So: Slouchy cotton pants, check; rolled: technically check, it's just a teeeeny tiny little roll. Fluid top, check; semi-tucked for additional structure, check. Topper, nope. Gladiators, unfortunately not but I feel like these gold smoking slippers are both casual and earthy enough. Belt, check. Causal bag, uhhhh nope couldn't manage that one, had to grab a clutch of course. A quick note on the belt: I wanted to see the studs, so I pulled the belt around one loop over and buckled it at my side ^^ Accessorized with white watch to add to the casual feel, BIG turquoise earrings inspired by LeopardLuxe's awesome turquoise jewelry, and light pink lip gloss to add a little softness.

I think I've got the casual vibe of the outfit here, but it is a bit more polished and definitely feels less boho. I also didn't realize until I was putting the photos together that I probably should've tried to smooth this new sweater out before wearing it, gah. It's from Forever21 and about the quality you'd expect, so I plan to just have fun with it for the season while it lasts. I do like the idea of the solid front and patterned silk back though, a different take on the upscale sweater/sweatshirt. A little more casual than I usually wear to work, but that's fine. Plus hubby and I are thinking of heading down to catch the ballgame later tonight and it's definitely appropriately casual for that (but drat, no coat and no scorebook with me!). Happy Friday, everyone!

I like the look, aida. The back of the sweater is such an interesting and unexpected touch! I also like the gold shoes.

Isn't it all about inspiration? Great combination and have fun at the ballgame!

You took Angie's inspiration and ran with it.  I really like your look and the trick of sliding the belt around to show the studs.  The green of your twills seems to be echoed with your lenses.

Yeah, I think this is more downtown cool than boho, but nothing wrong with that! :) It's a fun look, especially with the different back to the sweater!

Aida - I'm a big fan of the orange silky back with those olive twills - and those glasses again - They are perfect on you!! love your interpretation - perfect for work AND a ball game

Great look - the back of the shirt is SO unexpected - what a fun surprise - really! Love it all. Oh and the nails - as always perfection. I have to sit down and read your nail how-to's. Something I never have time for and don't really make time for since I botch it up every time. Yours look great!

Oooh, you look gorgeous in olive! I really love the colors in this outfit. It may be more polished, but it also seems that it is quite in line with your existing style. I love how the red nails add a touch of more vibrant color to the outfit.

That sweater is so cool! I love the unexpected pattern on the back. You rock the khaki formula!

Love your take on Angie's post!  This is a perfect example of how to take inspiration and make it work for your life and your closet!

    Love the sunnies, too.

Super fab!  The back of the top is so unexpected and so fun!!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks very much ladies! I'm glad you can see my inspiration from the ensemble ^^ The ballgame was fun, though we lost; the opposing pitcher used to play for the Ms and had won every game of his we saw in person, so apparently we continue to be his good luck charm regardless of team ;) This is what I actually ended up wearing at the game; it was so cold that both hubby and I had to get emergency hoodies, which ended up working out nicely as I've been wanting one for around the house and I really like the navy one I got. Fun and sporty!

E, I don't mind the downtown feel of my version but am really drawn to the boho aspect of the original. Maybe when it warms up a bit I can get more of the boho in :)

I too love the unexpected back detail of your new sweater. You definitely have the vibe of Angie's look and it looks good. Love the earrings and sunnies. You're inspiring me to dig out some of my earrings that haven't been worn for a good while.

Yes, I agree gives visual interest from the back. I like how you put your own spin on the outfit.

Great interpretation of Angie's outfit formula! These gold flats are so versatile and the top is very interesting.

Great casual outfit - I like how you've taken Angie's outfit formula and made it your own! The unique back of the F21 top makes it extra fab. And I like what you did with your belt - I have a Fossil studded vine belt that I need to try this with so that the studs and the vine pattern are more visible.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the ballgame. I miss living near the Phila. stadiums and getting to go to the games. Gosh, that's too bad your team lost...

And I have to add that I much prefer the hoodie below:

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

I really like your interpretation of the look, with the surprise pattern on the back of the sweater, but Love the one with the " emergency" navy hoodie... The colors look so rich with your coloring.

I also turn my belt around when I wear a light top untucked to avoid the buckle's relief on the front. Yeah, I'm a belt fan :)

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

How fun is the back go that pullover. And with short hair, it becomes quite noticeable. FAB.

Another excellent take on the formula. Yours is more dressy and polished - Aida-Style. xo

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you for the lovely comments, ladies!

Karie, hah! Well I am sure that hoodie is equally flattering on you ^^ I had to share that one with hubby, who shook his head, smiled, and said "Philly fans, eh?" ;)

Gracie, I never really thought about pulling the belt around with an untucked top, but it makes so much sense to avoid that darn bump up front! I am going to have to try that.

Fun pullover, and a nice interpretation of the ensemble.  This style of trouser looks like a great break from jeans.

  • Mamavalveeta03 replied 9 years ago

    Love this on you. I wish I could pull-off a tucked-shirt!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thank you Lisa and Mamavalveeta!

MV, tucking only the front or part of the front is a great compromise to fully tucking. You still get the structure, but it's more forgiving and relaxed. It's worth experimenting with if you like the look :)
