WIW 05.08 [semi-ladylike plaid]

Another red outfit for a particularly gloomy and wet day. It didn't start out nearly as wet or else I'd have worn booties and a coat, sheesh :p

Felt like going red to match my nails again, this time on the bottom. I bought this navy, nubby, zipper-front sweater/jacket during a New Year's trip to Las Vegas this past winter as an emergency warm layer; my husband actually picked it out (so not something he ever does) not expecting that I'd wear it beyond the trip, but I actually rather like it and have worn it a couple of times since. It's quite thick and lined which makes me think that it's a jacket, but it also has a wide panel of fabric next to the zipper inside which makes it look silly left open. So for me it's a sweater to be worn zipped up! Is it weird that I don't really like how I look in navy? I don't have much of it, but the heathered look of this one feels better than most.

I enjoy the juxtaposition of the ladylike sweater with the plaid pants, and had initially planned to go full ladylike and sport heels and a pretty bag. With the gloomy weather, though, I felt like a less dressy bottom half so I'll wear the pumps version another time. I was a little concerned it looked too dark without adding any white, but ultimately decided that the exposed skin (face, arms, feet) added more than enough "white" to keep the look crisp. Since I went more with the punky side of the clothing, I accessorized with pastel blue earrings and my black+neon lined clutch for a bit of extra subversion. Cherry-pink lip gloss and retro sunnies finish the look off, close up of nails on yesterday's post.

While the current overarching fit trend is to fluid and oversized, wearing a fitted top and semi-loose skinnies may be off but mixing these items here feels plenty current to me. The more extreme combo with all ladylike items is probably a bit more forward but the vibe of this outfit makes me happy, especially with wild hair, so I'm going with it ^^

Very cool! I think the exposed arms/feet definitely work in keeping this from being too dark and moody! Ylf!

Very nice! I don't often think of exposed skin as a "color," but your explanation shows that it certainly can be thought of one. And I really love the zip-up sweater.

LOVE! It looks colder there than here. I adore the red plaid pants! So punky and sassy.

Ooh I like it a lot, I adore the pants, and it's nice to pair them with charcoal as an alternative to black.

I really like this look. The red plaid goes wonderfully with the charcoal. Very casual chic with a dose of punk-ness. YLF!

Have I told you before how much Ilove the description of your outfits? So enlightening. These skinnies are so versatile.

I love the red plaid pants - I have a similar pair, and I was about to put mine away for the winter. It's cool and rainy here too so maybe I should give them at least one more wear. I like them with the navy sweater. I think it looks very current!

I think you look great. And funny when I first opened the post I went " oh I like that sweater!" What is it you don't like about navy ? Does it feel too heavy ? As always, I love reading about your outfit creations. I'm a fellow curly haired girl so I like to follow what your doing on the hair front too (yours always looks fab !)

Great combination and the fit looks tailored not tight and plenty current to me too!

Fantastic combination Aida. You wear plaid pants with the best of them. And IMHO there isn't anything a little sleeve scrunching can't solve!

    Love that sweater!

Pretty Punk. I love it, Aida. (I still wear semi-fitted tops too).

Looks like better weather today. Fingers crossed. xo

What fab punkey (new word :)) pants. I like the effect of the sweater zipped and showing a little flesh does lighten things nicely. Looking good!

You look great. What I love about your style is that no matter what you wear, there always is a bit of sophistication in there. Your hair is looking great, btw.

I didn't get to post the other day that I am loving your posts on nails. My daughter is really into that and when she gets home from camp, I can't wait to share them with her.

love the scrunch on those pants - adds some really cool texture and makes me look at those metallic flats!! - great job Aida!!

Oh wow thank you ladies! I'm glad that this doesn't feel off, it made me happy if a little self conscious after wearing so much slouch ;)

Karie, are your summers very warm? These pants are all season for me here in Mildsville. I like to pair with heaps of white and blush and light gray for summer. In fact, I think I wear them more in S/S than F/W.

Rusty, I can wear many, many colors since my skin has both cool and warm elements to it. For some reason, navy makes me feel way too too yellow, and very few colors do that to me. I like the softness it offers over black, but on me black and charcoal are just better neutrals even though I like navy as a color far more. Thank you for the curly compliment!

Angie, I see the sun peeking out today :D Glad to hear you're still wearing your semi-fitted tops, too.

Isabel, aw thanks! I hope your daughter finds the nail posts useful. If she has any questions she's more than welcome to ask, I always enjoy talking nail shop.

Dustt, I did debate rolling because well isn't that just the thing these days. But I felt like leaving them full length played into the ladylike aspect, whereas rolling added a tomboyish element that I didn't want to introduce.
