WIW 05.07 [cherries wide]

I spent most of the day in my jammies working at home and watching baseball (double header!), but in the evening had a casual birthday dinner out with my husband and his dad to go to. Last night I fell asleep thinking I hadn't worn many of my red items lately, and decided to wear this red cashmere sweater in whatever outfit I came up with. Yes, these are the kinds of thoughts I have before sleep ^^ Since today is forecasted to be the last dry day in a little while I wanted to wear something floor skimming while possible, so I chose these slouchy gray wide legs to lighten up the deep cherry red. Accented in my favorites: white (booties, necklace) and gold (earrings, clutch). To keep it more casual, I wore weekend-style light makeup (no mascara and cherry tinted lip balm) and big retro sunnies to finish the look off. Hair is still crazy sassy today, I'm lovin' it!

I also did my nails up to match: deep berry crème base with a red+white glitter topper.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

Lovely.  I like you in red Aida.  Grey and red is quite a lovely combination, it kind of mixes elegance (the grey) with exuberance (the red).  Love the nails.

I seriously covet that sweater Aida. It's the kind of red I would wear in a heartbeat. If you ever get sick of it you know where I am ;) The pairing with grey is lovely and your jewellery and hair a fab finishing touches. Nice nails!

Crazy Sassy hair with red is smoking hot. Is the gold jewellery from BR? The nails look beautiful as always.

I love this! This shade of red on you is fab, actually - I think you look great in rich solids like this. The white necklace brings more attention to your face and hair, but also echoes the hair beautifully. Fab choice of pants and nice that you didn't play with semi-tucking and belts - there is enough interest in your outfit. The nails are a work of art (I have soft spot for anything cherry-related), and on that subject I've just discovered you did a whole series which makes me rethink nail polishes in general.

love the drape of the pants.  and the red sweater is perfect, just the right red for you. and the finishing touch, love the nail art!

    Aida

    Your hair is adorable lately!

    Love red on you.

You *do* wide leg trousers like nobody's business - and red definitely likes you! Your new hair style is looking great too. I sometimes also soothe myself to go to sleep thinking of pleasant outfit thoughts, it's de-stressing I think.

You look amazing!  Red is a fabulous color for you, and I love the oversized sunnies.

You should definitely wear red a lot and I love the nails!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you ladies! Red is definitely one of my best colors and I enjoy wearing it, but like Janet mentioned recently hadn't been reaching for it as much lately. That said, I'm really into the idea of pairing it with pastels this season, must do that.

Deborah, oooh I love that observation, it totally resonates. The neutrals we pair those bright exuberant shades with can definitely change the tone. Gray and white are my favorites. The white makes sense, very crisp and peppy but I hadn't really thought about what it was about the gray that I liked; somewhere in the back of my mind I was thinking "soft" and now I can also add "elegant" to that idea.

Mona, the earrings were a gift from my MIL, the box says "Lia Sophia" on it. I just took a quick peek at their site and unfortunately it doesn't look like they're available any more, but they do have some other pretty gold jewelry.

Ornella, I hadn't thought of the necklace echoing my hair but of course you are absolutely right. I actually did try a semi-tuck first, but the long clean line felt better. These pants have a super wide band and no belt loops, wider even than the band on my sweater!

Gracie, it's definitely de-stressing although sometimes I worry about forgetting an amazing idea ;)

I am really enjoying your outfit posts Aida! Red  looks so lovely with your dark hair.
    Always Fab and inspirational :)

I, too, look forward to see your outfit posts.  So beautiful in red and love the necklace and shoes echoing each other!  Just lovely!

    *stealing your trousers and jumper*

Soooooo gorgeous. And you VERY much have a signature style, Aida. You're a Modern '70s Gal who loves to mix the trends with classics, and RATE with polish.

Red! I miss red...and what a great combo. Love the trousers.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks very much ladies! How interesting that several of us are having similar red feeling these days.

Angie, yes you are right of course! Those are the very mixes I enjoy most, and thinking back on when I was younger I did a lot of that then as well (though "dressy" then and "dressy" now are tooootally different beings). Bright colors, white, checked prints, and high contrast seem to be constants, too. I think that the 70s leanings are most interesting because I have, over the years, been to all spectrums that it ranges! It is by far my most constant decade :)

Oh, I like this so much, Aida! And you do the most amazing photo shoots. Deb's point about the grey is so interesting. It does bring a different vibe (elegance) to the red.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

I always love your attention to detail. I would not expect pale gray to go with deep red, but it works! The necklace and shoes tie in with the pale color while the nail art repeats the sweater. This is a classic and feminine outfit and fairly season less as well. I love the close ups you've been adding, you are beautiful.

  • Isabel replied 9 years ago

Just fantastic, Aida. You are really the queen of putting together such a great outfit from what seems like basic pieces.  I am LOVING the gold with the grey. I am just loving that combo recently.   I hope that you had a good time.

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

Wow, those nails! Amazing! Love the outfit overall and I'm especially loving the way those pants drape! You look fab!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

That red sweater looks fabulous on you! Those wide legged pants drape wonderfully well, and the white accents are perfect. Your earrings are very pretty (Lia Sophia is a home party jewelry company).

I often go to sleep thinking about outfits! Our bed faces the closet, and I hang the next day's outfit on a hook outside the closet door. So I'll often think, "Oh I could switch this with that," or some such thoughts :)

  • carter replied 9 years ago

Oh my, this is stunning! I love the whole thing.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love your slouchy wide legs! Love them with the red sweater! You are both wise and stylish beyond your years Aida.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thank you so much ladies!

Denise, thanks especially for the compliment on the close-ups. I don't really like taking photos of myself selfie-style because the camera distortion really bothers me and causes me some anti-confidence, but it's been good to just get over it and post so that details like earrings and lip color show more.

Isabel, gold with gray is a fab warm-cool combo! It's a good toe-in-the-water into those types of color combinations. And dinner was delicious! Thin linguine noodles with an array of spring veggies.

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

Love the whole outfit! Definitely one of my favourites. :)

  • MuseumGal replied 9 years ago

Wow, simple yet stunning. I don't know what crazy kook-aid you've been drinking but you have been KILLING it with your WIWs.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you Astrid and MG :D
