WIW 05.06 [slouchy all over + better hair]

This year I needed to refresh my jeans, and set a goal for three pairs: one flared, one faded skinny that's actually skinny, and a lighter washed BF. Happily I think I've got all three sorted! I bought the JBrand Love Story flares which are at the tailor for hemming, faded skinnies from LOFT are on their way to me, and then these BF jeans here from the GAP. I ordered these in three sizes because I wasn't sure what I'd like: two at regular length (which hits just below my ankle on me), and on a whim, one in the tall in hopes that they'd fit full length. I liked the smaller of the shorter pair which fit like a very slim BF, but since these have no stretch I decided instead to go with these talls which are long enough to roll up to wear cuffed at full length. This is a look that slowly grew on me, and I'm giving it a test run today to see how I feel about it. So far so good ;)

Since these are extra casual even for jeans (sunfaded wash + distressing + big and baggy), for today I decided to veer dressy with the rest of the outfit to counter that. My first thought was to pair with all black, but then I decided the wash was a perfect match with my floral pumps and swapped the whole look over to light instead. I wasn't sure if this giant silk-sleeved sweater would be too much volume, and it probably is, but I'm feeling JFE in it; added structure back in by pushing up the sleeves and semi-tucking into a rigid white belt. Extra sassy hair warranted big bold hoops, and I took a little '90s turn and chose plum lip gloss instead of something lighter. Faded denim calls for sequins (naturally) so I grabbed my gold sequin clutch to finish things off. Very happy with how this extra slouchy, half-casual half-dressy look turned out! I'm thinking these will be a fun alternative to my shorter and darker BF jeans.

Plus, as advertised, here are some better hair photos. I usually keep the stylist's styling a few days but I really wanted to get a feel for the cut so I re-washed and styled it how I usually do, much softer, wilder, and also bigger ^^ It shows off the rounded shape and choppy layers a lot more styled like this. I'm very happy with it, actually I like it much more today!

I love the slouchiness of those jeans and how you've styled them. And I am swooning over your hair -- the cut is fantastic!

Your looks looks lovely! I really like the floral pumps instead of black with this outfit, although I guess you could do it with black and bookend your hair, too. I bought those pumps in the navy eyelet last week. Really fun!

MORE than JFE. Totally flattering and fab. I love the sweater with these jeans and the floral pumps are a brilliant tough. Your hair looks spectacular!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Even with your curls and floral pumps, there's a bit of tomboy that is charming. Everything looks wonderful together.

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

    Very cute.

Aida, I don't know which side you came down on in the "pretty" debate, but OMG you look SO PRETTY!!  The hair is ridiculously fab!  And the outfit is just perfect.  Love love love from curly head to pointy floral toe!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Your hair looks even more gorgeous today, if that's even possible! Another fantastic outfit, and I love those Ivanka Trump shoes. Casual chic at its best!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Fantastic! Oh your hair looks sooooo healthy!!! I always like my hair the next day after a cut/style too, when I do it myself. It is always well behaved and fresh feeling. You look fab!

Your hair looks gorgeous! And I love the floral heels with the light denim.

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

I love this so much! Envious of your curls...mine are about half that!

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

I love your hair - it looks amazing & the fit of the jeans is just right :)

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks ladies, glad to hear the jeans are going over well! I was on the fence this morning about keeping but am feeling good after spending the day with them ;) It never ceases to amaze me just how much slouch is lost in photos. Or perhaps it's that we can feel the difference much more than is visible.

Joy, yes I love that and I think it's from the jeans (and to a lesser extent that I wear my hair in a very "natural" looking way along with extremely minimal makeup). I have been waiting patiently for just the right BFs to come along, a pair that feels like more of a true borrowed-from-the-boys pair and these covered my entire wishlist.

Mary, I didn't really say but I am uncomplicated in my feelings towards it :) Thank you very much for the compliment <3

Jackie, yes! I usually ask my stylist about something specific I want to see which she shows me when doing the styling, so it's not always styled in a way that I'd wear it. Sometimes it's fun to leave that way for a couple days, but this time I definitely wanted to change right away.

I say super duper flattering and how I love your hair!

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Love everything about this! Your hair is beyond awesome!

  • merwoman replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous from all angles! So impressed (as always) by your style goals and how you go about them - thanks for sharing!

  • Cindy S replied 9 years ago

Love this look on you from head to toe!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thank you, ladies!

Merwoman, with my eclectic tastes I really must stay focused else I risk not feeling like myself in my clothing, or feeling like I'm not moving forward when it's time for change. Which of course can be both tough and easy with all the wonderful styles and finds here ;) I'm glad sharing those goals resonates.

First of all, your curls are so gorgeous I can't stand it! You are so lucky!

I love your light denim BFs, and it's perfect the way you've styled them with those fabulous floral pumps - swoon!

  • christy replied 9 years ago

Ah, Aida, your gorgeous curls make me so mad at mine! Why can't they behave like yours? ;) Terrific outfit - love the pairing of the big sweater with the jeans. You're right - the white belt gives it the right amount of structure. You look great!

  • Marmee replied 9 years ago

Super flattering!  I like the pastels, and love the shoes.  And your hair looks great!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

The hair is marvelous! It's a little 70s already but a little 80s/Prince too. And that outfit is slouchy perfection.

  • replied 9 years ago

To Joy's point, definitely a charming tomboy :) Fabulous hair and perfect amount of slouch. I think you're right, we do 'feel' the extra slouch a little more than is outwardly visible. Looking good!

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

This is all perfect and to my eye there is no too much slouch. Of course, it's always educational to read your thought process  which left me curious what the darker version of this outfit looks like ;-)

Your hair is great. I love seeing you in the last close-up, you have such warm, beautiful smile.

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

Those jeans are fantastic -- great idea to go for the talls and roll them for full-length. And the pumps!

But best of all, your hair looks really amazing. I've been wearing mine more natural lately, but I don't have as much curl as you do anymore. The cut is really stellar on you, and I like your styling a lot.

  • ManidipaM replied 9 years ago

Your hair is just stunning. Congratulations on the BFs. I remembered buying talls last year for my slouchier skinnies for the same reason and did that with the cropped white jeggings too! One little advantage to being short I guess!

  • ramya replied 9 years ago

OK I am growing my hair to get a cut lie you!!!!

Love this look from the glorious curl to your foot!!!!

  • Kimberley replied 9 years ago

You look beautiful and those curls!  So fun!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    Killer

Love this look so much, Aida. (And the hair is spectacular). You are Queen Slouchy Chic. xo

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Love everything about this... your hair, your analysis, your jeans, your overall look....

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

Love, love, love your hair!!  So gorgeous!

And getting three pair of jeans sorted in one season, I think there should be a medal for that!

  • citygirldc replied 9 years ago

I love your hair and those pastel shoes are to die for. (make note self...Can't buy any more shoes)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Floral ladylike pumps with slouchy faded jeans? FAB!

And it's hair like yours that makes me wish I had curls :)

  • K. Period. replied 9 years ago

Okay! Darn it! Now you've convinced me and I'm going to have to go out and buy that wildly expensive mousse to see if it will boost my hair.  Oh, and you look fabulously fantastic too.  You really make these loose layers look so...cooool. Aida, Queen Nonchalant Cool.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Oh my goodness ladies, thank you all so much for the lovely and wonderful comments and compliments!! I'm blushing over here. For those with looser curls like mine, as I mentioned in yesterday's post I use Oribe's Curl Shaping Mousse along with a diffuser for definition and bounce I wouldn't otherwise have; the cut also has loads of choppy layers. Hmm maybe I should write up a post about how I do my hair... I'll see what I can do!

Ornella, I'll wear the black accent outfit next time, no worries ^^

Angie, thank you <3 Glad I'm hitting the right balance :D

Thistle, crazy right!? I am still in shock that I accomplished it, though I'm thinking it won't sink in until all three pairs are here in front of me.

K.P., hah I'm sorry and not sorry! I love this stuff, plus it smells amazing. Really work it in good and blow dry upside down with a diffuser to twirl the curls. Pop a little spray around the crown at the end if you want more lift!
