WIW 05.02 [slouchy and structured]

Well I had a totally different outfit planned for today but just had to change the plan when I saw the collections feature blog post! I haven't made many purchases this season, and some are from currently unsupported sites, so I added the finds I could and then built an outfit around a couple items from there: ivory sequin tank, white pumps, and black clutch. Curiously enough, none of these items were purchased this season but are all still available; I bought the tank and pumps last season, and the purse was a gift from my sister this past winter.

It's significantly cooler today, but it's still warm. I knew I didn't want full-length pants and debated between cropped pants or long shorts, but after opening a few windows and feeling how muggy it is I knew long shorts were the better choice. Truly, long shorts are one of the best types of bottoms for summer here. Unfortunately I only have two pairs, and really really need to get serious about finding a couple more. Today I'm feeling the glam bug so I pulled out this silky black cargo pair (*waves to Anna*).

I tried a couple different toppers before going with this gray cotton shrunken blazer; since the pants sit low on my hips AND the tank is quite long (though I managed to cover it up in the photos ><) I decided to play with the long torso thing with a cropped jacket. The long torso effect is much more obvious sans topper, and I quite like the look so I'm filing away this combo to wear again when the temperatures go back up later this summer. I added black and white chevron earrings to continue the graphic vibe, and finished things off with sheer light pink lipstick to add a little softness.

Extra high happiness with this one! It's super slouchy, but has a more structure than I've been able to get lately due to the shrunken nature of the blazer and lots more exposed skin. Plus it has loads of other things I love in it (blazer! sequins! white! pumps!) Hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday ^^

Very sassy -- I love structured combined with slouch!

Another fab outfit. I LOVE those shorts! And I could kick myself for not ordering those shoes - I originally saw them on Zappos a year ago, but I didn't order them because I was looking for more of a nude color. Now I want them in white, and they're sold out in my size :(

One of my favourites of your outfits - the lighter colours of the outfit go so lovely with your dark curls ... and that clutch adds the perfect edge!

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Whoa! I love this. That color combination is divine. LOVE the clutch. That is the coolest one evah. I'm loving this link-y thing but it's going to cause my budget some mayhem!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

    Thanks ladies!

Una, I'd love to see your take on this if you could snap a photo <3

Karie, it's funny with how many clothing items we look at and how much is available, that there are still items we mourn letting slip past. At least you and I can hang out at the "passing on the cream windowpane Sloan" pants bench together.

    Kelly, well not to push that budget but this clutch isn't very expensive AND is currently 33% off 0:}

LOVE everything about this. Going to have to scroll back up to see what those shorts are & where u got them. Fab!

  • cciele replied 9 years ago

Oh wow, this is excellent! Love, love love how you've styled the shorts. Good balance of slouchy with structure, and great spring colors.

  • Mo replied 9 years ago

This is fabulous, and the Raiders fan in me has to smile at the color combo. I'd love to find some shorts like these. I looked for a long while last year, to no avail. They are awesome.

Thank you Caro, Jackie, Cathy, and Mo!

Jackie and Mo, the pants are H&M [EDIT: NOPE not right, they're White House Black Market, sorry!] acquired through a clothing swap from Anna. They're actually ankle pants which I push up to below-the-knee, and then tie the ties tight so they stay put and poof out. I've also done this successfully with other capri-length pants with those hem ties, both silky and stiffer cottons :)

    Killer, you gorgeous creature. xo

I like those pants a lot! I've been trying to look for something similar but they never quite have that same look. Overall, wonderful outfit! I ALWAYS look forward to your WIW's!

Thank you very much Angie and MsKatieKat!

love this outfit, and thanks so much for showing us how the new finds feature can work in a post!

    Pantaloons!  You swashbuckling adventuress!

Love the way you wear this soft, but very sleek ensemble.  It's interesting, but still relaxed and restrained, if you know what I mean.  You can wear a "fashiony" item without the least sense of someone trying to be trendy.   I've been lamenting that too many of my jackets are of that slightly shrunken shape that was so popular a few years back.  Thanks for showing me how to refresh them!

Love those silky, sateen cargo shorts! Looking good.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks ladies! I enjoyed this outfit tremendously, though my sister and husband kept asking me to break dance for them :p

Beth Ann, hah! Swashbuckling adventuress indeed: I went to work then out to dinner with my husband and sister then came home and played with the cat ^^  I've also been thinking my neither-here-nor-there jackets need a good long thought about whether or not they need updating with a more classic/current length, as I haven't been wearing many of them either. This gray blazer is more properly cropped so it continues to get consistent use.

Nice! Glad to see those pants getting some mileage. I thought they were White House Black Market, but my memory could be failing.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Ack Anna you're right, they're WHBM (my memory is clearly the one that's failing!). I love them! They make me think of Gwen Stefani; back in my band days I was compared vocally to her all the time, so beyond the fact that they're from cool you they also have that additional soft spot for me.

  • E replied 9 years ago

Oh I love the textures & mix of neutrals! One of my favourites of yours. :D

  • Jjsloane replied 9 years ago

I like all the elements from the short over long  and your early adaptation of the finds feature! Naturally you had me at sequins.
I wish I had cause to wear such fab bottoms - silky cargos! Love.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love! And can copy more or less, heh!

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

This is a fabulous outfit Aida. Perfect combo of slouch and structure. Love that tank...I can see this collections feature is hoping to be expensive!

  • replied 9 years ago

    You look absolutely amazing.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thanks very much, ladies! Shevia I hope you'll post if you do :)

  • Marillen replied 9 years ago

Oh my, YL so F! I'm very partial to the long torso with cropped jacket look. And I was just debating about getting that clutch!
