Last week's outfits. I'm finding it harder and harder to dress satisfactorily without seriously gutting my closet and shopping for clothes that, 1) fit my current desired style (in desperate need of blouses and other slightly dressier items) and, 2) fit me physically (much of my clothing, especially pants, has gotten too large). Hopefully I can get that going in the next couple of weeks because I really feel I'm straining currently.

  1. Monday: worn to work then out for tacos. In Angie's post about white out looks she included light gray so I went with a light gray base with white accents. Does this count as a white out look? :)
  2. Tuesday: worn to work. This button-up is from the YLF swap, I finally fit into it (yay!). I don't wear a lot of brown without black, but I rather like the softness it gives this look.
  3. Wednesday: worn to work. First time tucking into high-waisted pants, I think it looks OK but wouldn't tuck into anything higher than this. I like the volume-on-volume here but I do plan to try a fitted top with these next time; I've got that noted from the last time I posted these :) Also, warm enough to wear sandals without socks (not really but I did it anyway ^^).
  4. Thursday: worn to work then out to dinner (and Tequila!) with a friend. Started with a cream top but then felt like color-blocking so I swapped to the teal; I would dearly have loved a teal blouse instead of a ribbed tank -_- My mom wore this color combo a lot when I was younger, I like the white added into the mix.
  5. Friday: worn to Target for dresses (where I met Sheila!), to work, and then out for date night with my husband. First time wearing the nude microfishnets, I love them (and to my surprise, so does hubby)! Also these chunkier heels are growing on me, perfect to add a little edge to a sweet dress like this.
  6. Bonus: my jeans' week as a member of Team Riveting Rearsider :)

Ooh, so fun, Aida! I love them all. The white out one is fab with that funky safari jacket. Simple but effective accessorizing! LOVE the waistcoat in 2 with the button down and jeans. That's such a great silhouette. I think it might be my fave of the lot. #3 is lovely but the jeans are looking too big on tiny you. I think you need a smaller size ASAP! Great color blocking in #4--the white really IS fab in this combo. It really makes the color blocking pop. Girl, you rock that dress. Great print and style. You can do no wrong!

What a fun week! If you are struggling to style, it is not showing. The vest look in 2 is my favorite out of the set. You look so long and lean here.

  • rosee replied 13 years ago

I like them all -- just like them all, I do! Nice stylings. #3 jeans might be a bit big or maybe that is the cut of the jean legs, still nice though. ;)

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks Kelly, Modgrl, and Rosee!

Kelly, Rosee, good eyes. Those jeans in #3 are a little big now, but have little buttons on the sides to narrow/widen the waist a little. I suppose I'll have to be even more mindful of the super-wide-leg-ness when styling until I get a smaller pair.

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

I would consider #1 a white out look because all the colors here are quite light. Overall you may say you are struggling, but all these outfits look darn good to me. I can't even pick a favorite. I will say that waistcoat makes your waist teeny, tiny. And I love the fit of all the jeans from the bum. My first place to check the fit of my own jeans. I recently had 3 pairs taken in at the waist and what a differnece it made in the fit of the bum (and my heels for length) too, by pulling the jeans back up to wear they belong.

Great week, Aida. My fave is #2 - something about a shirt and waistcoat with jeans just speaks to me...
    Love the rear view panel!:-)

  • celia replied 13 years ago

They all look fab on you and I especially like the last picture. Maybe I should start worrying about my rear view also ;)
Interesting that you feel the need for more sofisticated items. It is always great to see style evolve in others until it becomes unique of that person. It's like costumized blend of perfume, truly special.

A very stylish week for you Aida, you look beautiful in all of them.

#2, 3, and 5 are perfect. I like #2 because it shows your trim mid-section so nicely. Are those jeans a little big on you? #3 is my favorite, I love this silhouette. The super wide jeans and the pale top exude so much cool, I almost can't stand it. #5 is pretty without looking boring, that's not as easy to do as you think.

#1 -- this might be a personal preference but I would like to see a different jacket, it feels too summery for the turtleneck.

#4 -- The colors are great on you and a repeater. The white belt fights a little with the bold black-purple and teal color combo, I would go with a black belt but still keep the white bag. When I wear white belts with black, they create such a strong horizontal line that becomes the first thing I see.

Wow, I love the colors inspired by your Mom. I bet she is a beauty like you.

You are a rock and roll girl and you get your style right every time, in my book.

Ok, I'm totaly envious of your membership in the Team Riveting Rearsider. You're a winner and deserve it!

  • Lavinia replied 13 years ago

you look stunning, Aida! Looking at your outfits is always a treat :-)

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks for the comments ladies!

Lisa - Is it expensive to have the waist taken in? I would rather have that done while my size is still changing rather than purchase two new sets of jeans. (And thank you so much, it's very nice to know that my struggling doesn't show!)

Sveta - Thanks! I started taking those rear shots after Angie's blog post and they've been surprisingly helpful though I probably won't post often ;)

Celia - I think it is the natural progression, from tees (which I think I look fine in) to something a little nicer. I like your perfume analogy!

Denise - All of my jeans are a bit big on me, the ones in #2 probably by only a half size since they're my newest pair. Really glad you like #3, I know it's not for everyone and it's about as boho as I get hehe :) The turtleneck in #1 is tissue weight and super thin, was hoping that coupled with the pushed sleeves would be light enough to pair with the springy jacket? I see what you're saying about the white belt in #4, but was worried that the light shoe and necklace weren't enough to balance my dark hair?

San - Thank you! I posted an outfit back in January that was inspired by my mom from when she was my age with some photos of her, she's indeed a lovely lady! You can see her here :) http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-70s-style

    Lavinia - Thanks very much!

You can do no wrong in my eyes!!
You look fab in every single outfit :)

  • chouette22 replied 13 years ago

Another series of fantastic outfits Aida. I especially love 1, 2 and 5. The gray and white combination is beautiful in 1, I really love those colors. As others have said, you look super trim in that waistcoat in 2. I have looked and looked and cannot find one. I am sure I'll stumble upon one when they'll be the style of yesterday. :)
I had to return something to Target and was excited to check out your new multi-strand belt as I had also been looking for something similar. However, I didn't like the elastic back, it somehow made whatever I was wearing underneath stick out in an unflattering way. It looked good seen from the front and not so good from the back unfortunately (also, the elastic part was too wide on my shortish torso). Any similar observations on your side? Probably not, as it looks perfect on you. If you ever spot one that is leather all around, do let me know.

I love the elegant gray look of #1! And you are adorable in the vest with the turquoise ring in #2. The jeans in #3 look too big. You color combo in #4 actually made me go "ooohhhh" out loud--look so good!!! The dress in #5 was made for you, you elegant creature! I liked it better when you wore it with lighter shoes.

  • Debora replied 13 years ago

Aida, I always enjoy your outfits. They are flawless and your attention to detail is amazing. I especially love the soft, monochromatic look of the first outfit, and I love how you styled your new Target dress. They are all great outfits!

  • rae replied 13 years ago

I must have missed this post before -- love your white-out look! I am no authority on what qualifies as official "white out", but no one can deny that it's totally chic. :D

  • Girl X replied 13 years ago

I love that all grey look - I actually like it best without the jacket, just because I love seeing the unbroken column of grey. I'm living the 'grey out' vicariously through you, Aida!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks very much ladies! Glad everyone likes the gray outfit in #1, I'm excited to do another like it. And thank you for all the very sweet comments about the vest in #2 :)

Chouette - The waistcoat in #2 was thrifted because I too couldn't find any that I liked; I think this one is from the 90s based on it's material, tags, and cropped styling. I didn't notice the back of the buckle belt doing anything weirder than other wide elasticized belts; I wore it yesterday with a very fitted t-shirt dress and it bunched up a bit, but so would any other elastic belt so I covered it up with a blazer :) I will keep my eyes open for a leather-all-the-way-around belt!

Debora - I do pay a lot of attention to getting those details right as much as possible and am always glad when it's noticed, thank you very much!

  • Ornella replied 13 years ago

    Wow.
    Wow
    And wow again!!!

I'm flicking through your photos and cannot possibly decide what to start from. I love the selection of photos, the ones 'in motion' are super fab. Your hair is beautiful. On to the outfits... each one worthy of it's own thread!

    1. How clever and un-boring is this, when it could have easily been so bland!
    2. Turquoise and brown - I love this combination. Fab waistcoat.
    3. I really love this volume-on-volume. The necklace finishes it all off beautifully.
    4. My favorite of the lot and as I plan to do some experiments with color combos soon, this gives me additional incentive to try it. A-m-a-z-i-n-g!
    5. Ok, I've fainted now.

  • MsMary replied 13 years ago

Okay, I'm totally SO UPSET because I had a purple flyaway cardi just like the one in #4, and if I hadn't given it away in the latest purge we could totally be outfit twins because I have everything else in that outfit, and I LOVE being outfit twins with you, so I am SO UPSET!!! *sulk* *pout* *cry*

    Ahem.

You look fantastically fab, as per usual. I love the walking photos and the bootay photos. And Outfit Number Three is sending me over the moon! Those flared jeans and simple top are so perfect for you!!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thank you Ornela and Mary! Hooray for more love of the volume-on-volume in #3, it's certainly a Very Specific Type Of Thing.

Ornela - I think you'd look smashing in the colors from #4! We do have similar coloring :)

Mary - !! *pat pat* Do you have a flyaway in another color perhaps? We could be flyaway-cardi-color-blocking twins! I KNOW you can come up with some good color combos :D

  • MNsara replied 13 years ago

You had a fun week, Aida! Every day is great and they are all so unique from each other! I think my fave would be #2, as you really rock that jeans, white shirt, fitted vest outfit ;-) Next up would be your dress day - beautiful!

P.S. It took me almost a year to actually wear my nude MFNs, but they're great aren't they? I prefer some hosiery inside my shoes, as opposed to the bare leg look that makes my feet unhappy!

  • Lisalou replied 13 years ago

You are just adorable! I love them all--I think 1 and 2 are my favorites.

  • Medicechic replied 13 years ago

I love #2! All the rest are great too! I'm learning so much from reading posts like yours and others and all the comments. I never put much thought into accessories, but you seem to have nailed them perfectly!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks MNSara, Lisalou, and Medicechic!

MNSara - They are far more great than I expected, hehe! I don't mind no hosiery in most cases, but when some looks just look better with "nude" legs and our weather refuses to warm up they really work wonders. I've a feeling I'll be wearing them a lot this month (already worn twice!).

Medicechic - Accessories are fun because they can change things up instantly. I'd suggest wearing a simple outfit, then hitting a store like Target and playing with their accessories to get a feel for what works for you before purchasing :)

  • Angie replied 13 years ago

You score KILLER for the lot.

    Loooove #1 especially :)

  • replied 13 years ago

Wow...such a great week! I really love the vest, the wide legs, and your new dress! All very sophisticated and stylish :)

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thank you Angie and Sammi!

Angie, I'm so excited to get a Killer for the week especially when I'm having a hard time making do with my current wardrobe while trying to evolve my style! This makes my week <3

  • Louise replied 13 years ago

Your wardrobe struggles aren't visable these are fantastic x

  • Angie replied 13 years ago

Aida, I think your style has never looked better - so clearly your "confusion" is working :)

(And I responded to your last blog comment on yesterday's post too).

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thank you to everyone who responded, your great comments have perked me up tremendously! I feel much more enthused for next week :D

    Louise, thank you!

Angie, I am liking what I come up with but it's just very hard to come up with those looks in the first place; with significantly fewer items in my closet that I feel work with the direction I want to head my creativity feels a little stifled. Reducing clutter by gutting out all the stuff I know I won't wear anymore should help make outfits easier to come up with, and also really show me what my new wardrobe holes are. Just have to do it (I'm bad at getting rid of stuff ><). Good thing it's my birthday month, I plan to buy myself new clothes :D

EDIT: Felt like I shouldn't take up more of the blog page :) I don't apologize for my style any more. I did for a while there, and just accepting that my husband has totally different style tastes than me has pretty much cured that for me. I do feel confident in most of my style decisions, though definitely feel I'm still learning. I sometimes say "sorry you don't like what I'm wearing" but it never makes me feel like I should change what I like to wear :)

  • Scarlet replied 13 years ago

I especially like the color blocking outfit. Those colors look great on you! Three cheers for team rearside!
