WIW 04.29 [silk front sweater ensemble]

Ok so I am not actually wearing any of the bottoms Angie listed in her great ensemble post, but as the weather forecast got warmer and warmer I did progress through each variation in mind ;)

Today it is beautiful and warm so neither long pants nor a fitted pencil felt right. Instead, I pulled out my slim black culottes. Normally I wear these with heels, and while my 3" black pointy pumps were far more conventionally flattering (and that's what I put on first), I was able to accommodate my quirkier mood and wear my black patent loafers instead because my silk-front sweater is cropped which netted me some extra optical leg length to play with. The loafers also better suite my current inclination towards slightly nerdy proportions. And while we here know that navy+black is a fab pairing, I feel like that also plays into the nerdiness aspect today. To combat the slightly tomboyish feel I chose long earrings (though they're spikes, so perhaps not THAT combative) and light pink lipstick.

This almost-cropped top length is my way of participating in the bared midriff trend this season; it sits right on or just below the waistband of my pants. These don't look show skin until I stretch, and behave nicely while sitting down without needing a camisole for coverage. Though I usually do wear a camisole underneath this length of top, today I did not. It is as close to showing some skin here as I'm going to get!

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

I think the loafers are perfect with both slim culottes and the sweater!! - but the GLASSES make it!!

My favorite parts are the unusual pant legs and the clutch!

Fab culottes! And I love the sweater on you. It's a great outfit.

Nerdy proportions, heh! I actually don't think you look nerdy. But there's something about those proportions that, on paper, I'd say they would be awkward. But you totally pull it off. I think you definitely have a point with the greater optical length the slightly cropped top gives. Also, the dark band of the top, although navy, works well to extend that length. I love it!

I love your creative yet scientific approach. That is what makes your outfits so unique and fab!

The culottes are so fashion forward!  Nice outfit, and the top is beautiful.

As much as I like the sound of pointy pumps, I think I prefer this outfit with the loafers. Beautiful top Aida. i love the nod to your love for neon in the clutch print.

    Clever and effective.
I appreciate your comment aboutvnetting extra optical leg length with a cropped top.

Another one of my favorites of yours. I have a super sweet spot for loafers, culottes, and "quirky-nerdy proportions!"  I feel another outfit copy coming on - (I copied your dress with neon accents outfit yesterday) ;)

    Oh, I love culottes!
3/4 sleeves and 3/4 pants is a combination I find difficult to execute but you have made this work!
    Love the sunglasses!

oh, i really like this. i think the flats work so well, i can't even imagine this with pumps.

  • Thistle replied 5 years ago

Beautiful just as it is!  I like it so much better without the pumps. A bit of gamine maybe.  I also appreciate how you took Angie's formula and interpreted it as your own.

    You look truly fabulous!

Fabulous! I was going to chop a pair of too short wide leg trousers into culottes like yours and I still would, if only they fit me in the waist now :(. YLF!

    This looks fantastic Aida :)

Love that top, perfect for yesterday's weather!

Thank you all for the great comments and feedback! I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked these somewhat oddball proportions ^^

Cciele, yes awkward is probably a better word, but since I generally don't feel awkward and am a bit geeky, I stick to that ;) I certainly didn't feel nerdy wearing this though, more roguish. Good point on the sweater band adding further length! I'm all for adding extra thigh length, that's were my leg shortness lies.

Karie, oooh how fun! Will you post your dress+neon outfit? :D

Glad to see that your zeal for daily posting has not waned, really like the "geek chic".
