WIW 04.25 [neon accents]

I've had this dress/jacket/boots combo in my head for a week or so, waiting for the right opportunity to wear it. I had a tough morning and really needed a little extra boost so I was happy not only to have planned this outfit yesterday while painting my nails highlighter yellow, but also because it's pretty, white, and full of elements I really love. Also, the dress has pockets which is always awesome. I wasn't able to get a photo with those pockets, though, because it was so windy out that I was having to hold everything down until the last second when the camera timer went off ;)

It's taken me a long time to adjust to how I look in a bomber jacket. I tried on so many last year and nothing looked right until this one. Eventually I realized that I never liked how those jackets were making my shoulders look; they didn't look as strong as they normally do. Part of why I love this particular jacket is that the sleeve seam doesn't curve down, but the bigger reason is that it has shoulder pads. Yes, my fellow ITs may balk, but apparently that's how it is. This must be the same reason I dislike raglan sleeve tops on myself!

Other little tidbits: * I wanted to add a belt to cover the waist seam, but didn't like the clutter of the buckle so I spun the buckle to my side and voila, clean belted look! * Still cool out, so textured nude tights were a must; I'd love to find another pair or two. * Rarely do I wear, or even purchase, matching jewelry sets, but with these over-the-top neon pieces it felt like a fun match (plus the necklace is only peeking out a little). * I debated going full-hog neon and wear bright orange lipstick and my black/neon lined clutch, but was fond of the simpler color palette so instead wore a better-than-nude cherry pink lip balm and my white clutch. * And lastly, since I always wear earrings I wore my pearl studs because A) I wanted to keep the neon jewelry front and center, and B) Fridays are date nights (going out for sushi later, yum!) and hubby likes these best.

Having a fun outfit planned and ready to go was a huge help today! I normally keep a little list of such outfits handy, but haven't yet done them up for the season. So ultimately I got a reminder to get working on that this weekend. And, whew! I made it through a week of daily outfit posting. Over the hump ^^ Happy Friday, everyone!

Fun outfit!! I think it looks great! A lot going on, but very monochromatic (except the fun pops of neon) so it all totally works! You are soooo creative and I love reading about your thought processes.

Wow, I truly love this! The print, the lines, the neon accents--wonderful, you look fantastic! Also love how a taupe boot works in the springtime!

I love how well the jacket works with the dress, and the neutral boots allow the outfit to shine. Your jewelry adds the perfect pop of color!

There is a place for shoulder pads!  I like a square, but not extreme shoulder and what it does for the line of the garment overall.  The dress is lovely, as well, with a feminine, but fresh print.

I'll be looking for lightweight nude tights for fall, I think --- my favorite microfishnets are no longer being made.  Sniff.

You know I bought that necklace set because of you!  I get compliments all the time - people ask me if how it lights up.  YOU LOOK FAB!

Well, hello there, gorgeous! You look amazing and I love neon, so thank you for that. With your artistic sensibilities, I should have known you would rock neutrals as well as you do colors.

Your write up was very interesting, and now I'm off to see your others from this week, which somehow I missed. Dang, too busy to read YLF = a sad state of affairs.

Spring-ish, ladylike, fun, and flirty!  SO FAB!

So funny that you prefer to highlight your shoulders. I like to down play my IT planks unless I'm bloated...then it's red alert time to take attention away from the apple belly!  :)

Thanks very much ladies! Happy that you gals like neon as much as I do ^^

Jackie and Julie, I'm so glad you enjoy reading about the process!

AJ, I'm not sure if it's a highlighting issue as much as I'm more comfortable with my shoulders just looking like they normally do, and most bombers seemed to minimize them. There are a few times where I'll focus a bit more on actually softening them (tucking into high waisted skirts, specifically) but for the most part I'm usually leaving them to do their thing. I suppose it's a good sign of liking how I look :)

Love this outfit - the neon really pops against the cream/grey of your dress and bomber also means your gorgeous manicure has maximum impact.

Fun! I love the neon POP! on the muted neutral background.

Gorgeous outfit! Love the neon (is wearing a neon scarf today ;-)) and agree with Beth Ann about strong shoulder line. I noticed the nude, but textured, hose and really like how they add a bit of fun too.

The neon accents look amazing with the grey and white. Fun, fresh, and springlike!

Oh yes, and I forgot to confess...I love it every time you wear the Mural bomber (I have the jacket too) because I mark ALL those outfits as favorites to copy!

Loving the whole outfit. That jacket fits you so well.

Ooh, so fun! Really dig the white with black print thing, and the neon set really makes the look. Taking notes...

Great look.  I'm a shoulder pad fan too - my shoulders are broad, but they slope down, and I like the way a light pad straightens them out.

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

So gorgeous, Aida. I never would have paired those boots with the cream and greys but they look amazing together. Well done!

  • Kristin L replied 9 years ago

Great idea about turning your belt. And I love the neon accents with the gray and white!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Adorable. I can eat you up. Those splashes of neon are delish.

    *chomp, chomp, chomp*

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous - I have this bomber too and find it works where other things don't. I really like the pearl with the neon too.

Thank you all for the lovely comments, I'm feeling the neon love :D

Karie and Shevia, you should post some of your Mural bomber outfits so I can copy you!

Kelly, since these are nude boots I just treat them as a leg cover for cool days. I'll wear them with anything; warm-toned, cool-toned, colors, neutrals, you name it!
