WIW 04.19 Mary's copycat mini-challenge!

Like Mary I take inspiration from all over the place, whether it's nature, conversation, TV, internet, YLF, my cat, you name it. Here's my little entry for Mary's internet copycat challenge!

OK so this isn't exactly a direct copy, but I loved Jessica's recent black, white, and tan outfit and knew when I first saw it that I wanted to try something similar. Unfortunately I don't have any tan toppers (!!). Military green is totally the next closest thing, right? ;) It does change the vibe quite a bit, and I did have to swap out nude shoes for a darker pair to keep things balanced since my jacket is dark, but I think the inspiration outfit is still pretty clearly represented.

I love how this outfit turned out! Thanks for the inspiration for inspiration, Mary :D Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

Not to dis Jessica or anything, but I like yours better :)! You have a lot going on, but it manages to be sleek, chic, and very cohesive. LOVE!

That looks great, Aida! I like that it looks good on you with or without the jacket and scarf, so that you can take off layers if you get too warm. But I like it best when it's in all its ALGO glory. Good job on making Mary's (so chic!) look your own.

Nice! I might have to copy your copy. =)

Looks great! I really like the leggings with it! I haven't tried leggings yet so I'm always interested to see how they can be styled.

  • Lynne replied 11 years ago

You've made it your own, Aida! Yay for inpiration :)

FWIW, I vote sans scarf and would love to see it with your hair down.....WDYT?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I'm in awe of your style Aida!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks ladies! I didn't realize it's a bit more ALGO than what I usually wear until you gals pointed it out, and actually ended up wearing it with jacket+scarf nearly all day because I was over-ambitious about how warm it was today ;)

Chrizzle, thanks! I usually try to make sure that layered outfits look, at the very least, presentable when the layers are off; as much as I like my structured jackets, most of the time I just can't type for a full day with them on (plus the temps change often!).

Lynne, I debated about hair down or hair up and ultimately went with up since I added the scarf. When I wear this dress again sans jacket I'll leave my hair down :) (Hope you and your family are doing well! *hugs*)

Love! The jacket/shoes combination is an object lesson in bookending.

You look terrific, Aida, and you are obviously having so much fun! What a great dress. I don't remember seeing it before.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I like yours better too! Hers is more classic, yours more edgy and sassy!

  • Ana replied 11 years ago

This is a beautiful outfit, Aida! I like yours better too! You are rocking this color combination--and it's not easy to wear. You look fabulous! Great interpretation.

Super look - easy to copy a lookbut much harder to reinterpret in your own style which is what you have done - I bow to the master (or should that be mistress hmmmmmm).

  • Louise replied 11 years ago

I like yours best too x

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

I loved Jessica's outfit when I first saw it too and I like your interpretation. It's very cohesive and I think is a slightly different look for you. You have a gift for layering and this outfit works in all variations here.

Thanks for the comments ladies! :D

Sarah, this dress is something I bought just-barely-pre-YLF but have only worn a couple times, and I think I've only posted one outfit with it here way back when I first joined. The fit and print are good so I've been reluctant to purge, and it's been chilling in my "time out" closet for quite a long while. Which is a good thing because all of a sudden I'm totally feeling it and have a ton of ideas on how I want to wear it! Weird, huh?

Ana, thanks! This is one of the few muted color palettes that I can wear, but almost always need to add a healthy dose of black or white contrast to it :)

Deborah, yes I was thinking that too even though I felt perfectly comfortable and "me" in it. A bit artier maybe? I do have an arty side, but don't dress to it often.

Love this look! What jacket is that? Is it still available? I have been looking for a military green jacket...

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I like both looks but yours is definitely edgier when everything is pulled together. I like the way the outfit looks stylish in each picture, with whatever combination of pieces (or lack of accessories).

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thank you Mary and Denise!

Mary, unfortunately the jacket is no longer available. It's one of my oldest wardrobe items actually, a random juniors jacket from Macy's some 7 years ago, and one of the few pieces that survived The Big Wardrobe Overhaul.

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

Well, it's awesome! If you notice it missing some morning, you'll know where to look...

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Nice! You know I like yours best, too, since you have the long over short thing going on! Amazing that you've kept that jacket so long - I hope to collect favorites like this, too.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks Rae! I'm also totally into the short-over-long thing right now, but not enough that I can use to sport it! I don't have a lot in the way of super faves like this jacket, but I'm slowly working my way towards having more items like that.

  • replied 11 years ago

Ack! Super-fab! I love that green jacket on you; the cut is just sublime. This is one terrific outfit, ALGO or not. *smiling at the green shoes* :)

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

I really like the stripes and the short over long. That jacket is absolutely great... I can see why you have kept it for so long! Plus with the bookending heels you are making me wish i wasnt batting for team flats. OT: I think the necklace you are wearing would have been perfect with my orange T the other day so I am officially on the hunt for a longish chain. I love how the larger rings on the chain are like dots for a polka dot-stripe pattern mix.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thanks Claire and Sarah!

Claire, yay for green shoes! I need more colorful shoes in my life :D (Don't we all?)

Sarah, I agree a necklace like this would be perfect with that outfit! I have several long necklaces with varying details (some are pendants and others aren't) and find they work really well with tees especially. They are my favorite way to spiff tees up, actually!
