WIW 04.09 (Star Wars)

Movie poster: Star Wars (group thread).

The most iconic thing about this poster to me is the title lettering (hey, I do work in type!); beyond that, the star field makes a big impression of the poster art. So I wanted today's outfit to be tribute to those two key elements.

  • Black turtleneck, white blazer - outlined lettering
  • Hatch print pants - star field
  • Cream booties - strong white accent of Luke/Leia against the dark sky
  • Long spike earrings - sci-fi "metal" tribute (hah get it? *badum bum*)
  • Taupe clutch - reminiscent of the Deathstar's grid pattern

I wanted to get more blue into my outfit, so for today's nails I did bright blue with a shimmery silver flake gradient (cuticle-to-tip) and a white sparkling light saber accent nail; unfortunately the other hand looks much better since I'm right handed, but I have a kitty scratch that I didn't want to subject you all to gruesome up-close photos of. Today's lipstick is my nude-for-me peach which has gold sparkles in it, as a little nod to C3PO.

And one other effect that I'm quite pleased with is the slightly awkward proportions (which I just love) from the not-quite-cropped jacket and not-quite-ankle pants, giving me just the right amount of nerdy for this inspiration poster ^^

Forget it! I LOVE those trousers! LOVE! With the white jacket and black top and white shoes! Oh my goodness, I feel like I am seeing stars (hee hee)!

ETA - not that I don't appreciate the thought that went into this too of course. But you knocked my socks off with your outfit!

Stellar! The pants look like a galaxy and the other components seal the deal! Fun manicure, too. Well done.

Wow, I love this, Aida! Those pants are sensational. I want a pair. Don't tell me they are nerdy, please. Or let me be a nerd. They're fabulous on you with the white jacket. As usual, your attention to detail makes your outfit truly shine (ha ha). Love your nails. too.

Very nice! I love how you were inspired by the texture and type. The pants really do recall the background of the poster nicely. And of course it was a great excuse to do a fun mani!

This is so cool! You look great & appropriate for the challenge & very 2013 at the same time.

What Elle said!   I love the thought process that goes into every detail of your outfits.  What are you, an engineer?  :)  The pants are particularly stellar, so to speak.

Thank you for the lovely comments ladies! I'm glad to hear these new-ish pants are getting lots of love; I've worn them a couple times but haven't posted here yet I think (those outfits are in my backlog that I'm working through, heh). I had been debating letting the hem out 3/4 inch, which is all that's available, but have been enjoying the slightly geeky vibe they have at this length. We'll see if I change my mind once they're paired with normal shoes instead of booties! Also, I have been thinking about picking up the matching blazer 0:)

Una, something like that! ;) These days I don't really pay attention while I'm thinking during dressing, but am just able to decode it later on. Though with the challenge outfits I certainly plan every detail!

This is so CUTE! I love the pants and your focus on the letter. I am at a loss for words. So, I'll just tell you that you look fabulous and go sit down to look at your pics again. CUUUUUUUTE!

So awesome, I gasped when I saw your outfit!  Luv your inspiration of the letter type and star field.  Fabulous, fun manicure.

... are those pants Ann Taylor ... ?  They look so corporate in the stock photos that I can't tell whether these fun beauties are the same.

I adore the amount of detail that went into designing this outfit, Aida!  The color scheme is very flattering for your complexion and reflects the movie poster.

Also: tell us about the kerning!  :P
  • Aida replied 11 years ago
Thanks for all the comments and outfit love, ladies! I was super happy in this outfit ^^

Hannah, yep these are indeed those corporate looking pants from Ann Taylor! The fabric is super summery and they feel like a casual pant (almost resort-like), partly because of the very relaxed fit. Highly recommend them if you can do the short 28" inseam! The kerning in the title is OK, though the last "r s" bugs me (way too much space!) ;)
  • Charmian replied 11 years ago
The "s" is so cool (and iconic), though!

I have to say, I am envious of your ability to make clothes look good instead of the other way around.  I might not be in your fashion league, but at least we can talk fonts!

AAAHHHHHH.....the PANTS!!!! Fabulicious! Love how the outfit is crisp and high contrast and then you have these lovely soft neutral boots and handbag. Love that.
  • Aida replied 11 years ago
Hannah, those S shapes are definitely iconic! The extra space between the last R/S is a little wide though, easily solved by reducing the space slightly and taking the excess off the first S to shift the top line a little bit left; or reduce the space and extend the top of the S so it mirrors the first S's shape more. The balance would be preserved either way :) Now don't sell yourself short, lovely lady! It takes going through a lot of clothes to find the ones that "you wear" rather than "wear you", and I think your minimal classic outfits are just fab.

    Shannon, thanks! We'll be seeing plenty of these pants this summer :}
