WIW 03.18 - Una's Sart inspiration

Una posted a Sartorialist photo that reminded her of me here and this is my interpretation of it! I did actually wear it out today, but I think the whole look is a little too oversized for me. Mainly because this sweater has gotten too big (and it's aggrivatingly fuzzy). So this will be its farewell look :)

EDIT: Forgot to say that both the skirt and blazer are vintage 80s pieces. One of my current style goals is to work more vintage into my looks, but in a less-than-expected way.

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

I like it but also agree that the sweater is too big for you.

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

OMG, I never expected that perfect of an interpretation! It is very you and I love it. I think your sweater's slightly heavier neckline is what's giving it the bulkiness that hers does not have, but the overall execution is right on.

    Yay!

I LOVE this! I think it looks so good on you that you should invest in a better fitting sweater so that the bulkiness isn't an issue. You look beautiful!

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

Agree, you look very Euro-sophisticate but still you...

  • replied 13 years ago

    Love it!

  • chouette22 replied 13 years ago

Oh, so perfect! Would you have worn opaque or sweater tights with sandals if not for the re-interpretation of the photo? It looks great but I would never have worn them together. Now I wonder if I should...

  • Angie replied 13 years ago

KILLER to the power of KILLER.

    Enough said :)

  • Heather replied 13 years ago

    Bravo, Aida!

    Are those Seychelles?

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks ladies! Honestly I was a bit skeptical because the sweater fit felt so off, but I really loved the spirit of the look and was feeling a bit dejected after taking the photos. So I am SO very glad this is going over well! It was surprisingly boundary pushing. And I plan to replace this sweater with one that fits better this fall :)

Una - Thanks for the inspiration! I would love to get more Euro-chic into my style so this was very illuminating. I've been thinking a lot about what direction I want my style to move after your post about yours, but that's another post :)

chouette22 - I hadn't worn tights+sandals with a skirt/dress before, but I have worn sandals with socks/hose under jeans. It's something I've been wanting to try, and this was a good push to get me to wear it out of the house.

hbaber - I wish! These are from Target (just got 'em). Last year, I REALLY wanted those Seychelles in turquoise but I was too chicken to purchase (and also too chicken to wear); I've been regretting it since (and would definitely wear them now). When I saw these I just had to get them, but if I spot those turquoise Seychelles again I'm scooping them up!

What fun-you look amazing- what a likeness to the inspiration model! You rock the look!

  • Encore replied 13 years ago

    Really, really great!

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

Aida, you are so stunning, and this color palette plus her hair and attitude just said "Aida" to me. Even if you didn't want to do a challenge, I thought it would be interesting for you to see the impression you make, and I don't even "know" you...

Can't wait to read more about your style evolving thoughts. Also, I did your list, and added a couple of my own tweaks, and will post when it's all done. So helpful to me in so many ways.

  • tarzy replied 13 years ago

Wow! What a great look for you - really fab. Well done!

  • chouette22 replied 13 years ago

Aida, that is funny! I just bought those same sandals from Target three days ago too (in light brown though) and why? Because I didn't get the turquoise Seychelles last season and admired them EVERY time I saw them on a blogger. I have not decided yet if I am going to keep them though. My right foot has been acting up every time lately when I have been wearing more than a small heel.

  • Ornella replied 13 years ago

I'll only say it was good I was already sitting when I saw this!

This is the best Sart interpretation I've seen here.

Everything is perfection and I lo-o-o-o-o-o-ove your sunglasses!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks for the comments ladies!

Una - I plan to open up a thread to discuss what I've been thinking about, probably early next week. The engineer in me wants to have mostly-formed ideas before discussing, but the impatient-little-girl in me says "hurry up already, we need some change!" I feel like I've learned so much more by seeing those inspired-by-me outfits that have been posted, or things that people think are my style, than I ever would have just by thinking about it on my own. It's pretty amazing to see your style through the eyes of those who actually, you know, view it :) Looking forward to seeing your list! (Side note, I wish I hadn't looked down in the Sart photo; takes away from the strength the wearer projects!) (Also thanks for the compliment, I'm blushing at my work desk ^^)

chouette22 - Those turquoise ones were amazing, right!! Every time I saw someone wearing them I got a pang of regret hehe. I couldn't decide whether to do these in black or brown, and the black was what was in my closet (still with tags on) this morning. So, black it is :)

My favorite look on you so far!!!!!

  • Late Bloomer replied 13 years ago

Wow, so sophisticated. I only noticed a bit of bulk in the first photo but the look is so fab it would be well worth looking for a sweater that you are happier with. Also, of course you could uses elements of the look to make new looks with the same vibe.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks Jen and Late Bloomer! LB, I definitely will try to recreate new looks with this vibe using other pieces.

I forgot to say in the initial post (and now added it): both the skirt and blazer are vintage 80s pieces. One of my current style goals is to work more vintage into my looks, but in a less-than-expected way.

  • MsMary replied 13 years ago

Aida, did you see this week's episode of "What Not to Wear," with Renee, the lady who had ONLY vintage pieces in her wardrobe? Stacy and Clinton did a great job incorporating a lot of them into her new wardrobe, in that less-than-expected way. V. interesting!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks for the tip Mary, I did not see it. I'm still trying to figure out what the best way to incorporate vintage will be for me so I'll have to find a copy of that episode to watch!

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

    W-O-W, nuff said.

  • Heather replied 13 years ago

Okay, so I bought the Seychelles in January on Amazon in gold. Um, I know Seychelles are famous for running short, but these were seriously like two sizes too small or mismarked. Back they went and I have been sad ever since.

I adore the shape and style of this shoe. Aida, you had me fooled. I really thought they were Seychelles and you look wonderful in them. =) And I, too, swooned over the turquoise in this style for sure. I have a different pair of teal Seychelles that I cannot wait to bust out for spring/summer.... =)

I look forward to your upcoming analysis/thoughts on your style.

  • AJ replied 13 years ago

That gal does remind me of you!

Bravo with your copycat look! This looks FAB on you! A little preppy, a litte edgy and modern with polish. Luv it!

I so envy your heel wearing abilities. Those Target heels are great....are they comfy?

I look forward to reading your style analysis.

  • rae replied 13 years ago

Gray tights with black sandals... wow, the effect is really cute! My utilitarian mind is reeling!

  • Arya replied 13 years ago

This is an impressive and inspirational outfit! Thanks for sharing it.

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

Gorgeous, Aida. It's perfect. I especially love the opaques with the sandals. You did a most excellent job!

  • MNsara replied 13 years ago

Wow, Aida - this is my favorite outfit on you so far (okay, I don't get to read all threads, so some great ones might have slipped by me. . . )! I adore the Euro-chic style on you :-) and the sart-girl look a lot like you!

When you find a lightweight sweater, please also try it with a black belt (not a skinny belt either) because I have this idea that it would give you another vibe - more French?

(I must try the grey tights with peep toes. . . too bad there is no where in life I need to go where I can get away with that)

  • Shauntelle replied 13 years ago

I love this and it makes me rethink tights and open toed shoes, a look I was never fond of before.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

WOW guys, thanks for all the amazing comments! I suppose this is a unanimous vote for me to continue pursuing this style, eh? :)

hbaber - Can't wait to see your teal Seychelles :D

AJ - I do find these sandals comfy (especially with that thick heel), but I also mostly sit at work. While walking they felt nice though, so hopefully I'll get a chance to walk in them more and give you a more accurate review.

MNsara - I'll be sure to try this with a belt for next time, especially if the top is as long as this one is.

  • Kyle replied 13 years ago

You look chic and put together with simple pieces in an interesting and feminine way. The best look I've seen you wear. The sandals and tights combo has me reeling. It's just too fab.

  • Aunty replied 13 years ago

    Wow, fantastic!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

    Thanks Kyle and Aunty!

  • CocoLion replied 13 years ago

I like how you took chances here. Nice to see you wearing a skirt. I have a pair of peep toe booties and have been dying to wear them with stockings, for comfort and warmth. Maybe I will try it! Thanks for breaking in a new look for us to try out Aida!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Denise I think peep toe booties look great with stockings, and have worn mine that way and loved it; thanks for the reminder to do it more often! I do hope you'll post your look :D (You'll see me start to wear more skirts/dresses as the weather warms up!)
