WIW 03.18 [Ensemble: Spring Tweed & Jeans]

Another take on Angie's fab tweedy ensemble this morning ^^

A fun mix of old/new and high/low. This navy/black/gold tweedy jacket is from Zara a few years back, and the Eileen Fisher linen-blend shell is pushing 11 years -- quality is brilliant, especially since it's a knit. Jeans are from early last fall, and of course new silver pumps which several forum members also have. Incidentally they the only successful purchase I've made this year, though I have a few boxes of white jeans to try this weekend (fingers crossed!).

Messier hair, basically what I do for bed ;) I like it much better than the sleeker ponytails I've been doing (which jived better with the rockabilly bangs versus these little curly doodads). Finished with some blush crystal rock studs, coral triple layered necklace, and a swipe of bright red lipstick. Retro clutch and sunnies for, well, more retro.

HUGE high happiness factor. Been very slowly working towards the new style direction and this is spot on. A little more classic perhaps, definitely more retro+pretty, and of course still glam with touches of punk (and boho, other days).

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

I could not love this more!  You are such an inspiration.  I really need to post my pic of those cropped jeans...
and by the way, you've cuffed them exactly as I did testing for the right length, and I kind of love them that way.  Would prevent hemming and let me vary the length for different footwear.  Hmmm....

  • Elle replied 8 years ago

Great outfit! The shoes really bump up the style quotient.

  • Tanya replied 8 years ago

Love everything about this, Aida!  Your version is so pretty vs. mine that was more relaxed.  I like all the touches of coral/blush and how you cuffed the jeans.   And it's fun to see the silver shoes on someone else, it gives me more ideas on how to wear them.

  • replied 8 years ago

Now THIS is terrific - not that your outfits are ever NOT, but I get this one ;)  You look yourself still, but show here a more polished, mature /sophisticated look. I'm another cuffer like this - adds so much to a look, in my mind .  YLF!!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Killer Gorgeous, Aida. LOVE the roll on our jeans, the new curly up-do, and the more sophisticated edge. Very pretty. And you know that coming from me - that's a huge compliment. I believe in Powerful Pretty.

And fun that you're having tea in my Modern Retro Kingdom. (There's plenty of cake too).

Waving at my shoe twin - and wearing those same shoes TODAY.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 8 years ago

I really like this hairstyle for you. It's sweet but also sophisticated, but not poodle skirt-ish. And the jacket and shoes are amazing.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 8 years ago

I love all of it! Outfit, shoes, hair. You look stylish and perfectly relaxed. Wow.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

How are the raggedy hems holding up to washing?

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

    Thank you ladies :D

Una, hems have been great. After the first wash I cut off ALL the white hanging bits and have since left them alone unless they're super long. Have frayed just so, quite nicely. I mostly wear these at ankle length, but really enjoyed cuffing them today. Good to have options, isn't it! Also have the white version of these in the mail on their way to me. I soooo hope they work!

Angie, how fun! We can at least be silver shoe twinnies. I am undecided on the white sandals, need to prance around at home a bit to see how I feel in them. Also need to figure out how to consistently channel this vibe with what I've got in my wardrobe right now. LOVE the idea of "Powerful Pretty". Hmm will think on that. And happy to (finally) be more firmly established in the Modern Retro court ^^

This is the way to own pretty/beautiful, Aida! Gotta say I do love the hair in particular.

  • replied 8 years ago

I like this a lot Aida. I'm trying to think of how this is different from your other outfits, and I would agree with lisap that it is a little more polished and mature.
I like how you've mixed all these pieces. Very nice!

  • Jenn replied 8 years ago

I love this! The hair is fab, too. I like the messy/pretty look.

  • replied 8 years ago

Great combo - are the shoes comfy? I may need to check those out!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

    Thanks for the comments!

Smittie, hah you and me both! It's been a while since I've been able to go as dressy as I usually like to, and I think on this leg of my style that is going to manifest differently than it has in the past. Will be experimenting a bit with this outfit in mind this weekend,
hopefully I can come up with something I can move forward with.

Zoie, the shoes feel very nice (and are an Angie "Top Pick"). Great to have buckles on the straps to adjust over the foot as one needs. I'd say runs TTS.

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

Lovely! This looks a bit 50s retro to me. I think it's the hair and the cuffed jeans. Love the cuff with the frayed hem. I must try this! And love the jacket. Zara has some great jackets.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

STAND UP! Love the up do too :)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

You have managed to combine lady-like, a bit of tomboy, retro and glam in this fabulous outfit. The blue of your jeans looks especially lovely with the jacket.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

This is so lovely on you! I really like the new hairdo! Super pretty. And the jacket, wow! Of course you know I adore the blues.

Do you find the silver shoes comfy? I am tempted -- they have the at The Bay as well.

  • Bonnie replied 8 years ago

I love this outfit. You look amazing!

  • anne replied 8 years ago

No wonder your happiness is high! This is great!!

  • Debbie replied 8 years ago

Aida I love all of your outfit but this is one of my all time favorites. Your hair shoes jacket and jeans it all works. Absolutely stunning!

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

What amazing shoes!  They look like magic dance shoes on you!  Love the unexpected combo of tweed, retro shoes and rough jeans -- adding the 70's inspired necklace is even more brilliant!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Wow, you look fantastic! I love the whole outfit and the new hairstyle. The curly bangs and loose ponytail are just right, and so flattering. I second Angie's assessment of this "powerful pretty" look.

  • replied 8 years ago

Wow! Love this look Aida! Soooo gorgeous. The little extra doses of pretty...colour, shine, hair...and the extra polish really take your style onto your next stage that your aimed for. Hearting this one :)

  • replied 8 years ago

Hi Aida.  This is one of my all time favorite ensembles and you wear it flawlessly.  You look absolutely gorgeous.  Everything works (and I'm talking about the proportions).  You have an eye that always gets the proportions right.

BTW.  This one single WIW made me decide to try those jeans.  With your WIW, I might be able to get the proportions right for myself.  Thank you so much.

  • Bijou replied 8 years ago

This is beautiful - I love the frayed jeans, it creates a great juxtaposition against the shoes and jacket.  I also love your hair this way, you look stunning.

  • Style Fan replied 8 years ago

I love this outfit.  Everything works so well together.  I am so into cuffing jeans right now and yours look perfect.  I love your hair.  WOW.  I also like how all your metals work together.  Silver, gold, rose.  Nice.
Very pretty but a good dose of punk.  Punk pretty.

  • Summer replied 8 years ago

This is lovely, Aida, especially the hair and that beautiful jacket.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

You look extremely pretty. Everything single thing about your whole look is just PERFECT. Amazing retro touches here....but it's your curly up-do I love THE MOST. How how how do you manage to always make your hair work soooo beautifully with your look??!! You never cease to amaze me, Aida!

  • replied 8 years ago

FANTASTIC, Aida! I get happiness factor just from looking at this outfit on you. You are radiant and beautiful! The items you pair in your ensembles are always so well chosen and just slightly unexpected. Here I am thrilled by the relaxed look of lighter-colour, frayed jeans contrasting with the dressier shoes and jacket. And that necklace -- wow, one single piece that provides a pop of colour together with a way to unite the silver and rose gold. Your hair is, quite literally, the crowning touch. Masterful and inspiring.

  • Janet replied 8 years ago

Aida, I love this -- very possibly one of my favorite looks you've ever posted. Very cohesive and just the right balance of polished and RATE. I love your hair this way too.

I will definitely have to try copying that cropped jean cuff when I'm back home in my real wardrobe again (in ranch mode right now).

  • kkards replied 8 years ago

gosh, the balance of the shiny hard texture of the shoes with the soft, nubby texture of the jacket…. wow, this is just perfect

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Aida, Powerful Pretty for the win. I know that Mary, Inge, Suz, Jules (RoseandJoan) and Anna are onboard too.

We're footwear twins in many ways already. Keep me posted on the Shellys. They WILL need getting used to!

  • Dee replied 8 years ago

Everything about this works perfectly. I love the combination of subtle textures and shine. And I'm jealous of that moto! It makes the tweed look so modern.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Perfection! Love it all from hair to toes!

  • kellygirl replied 8 years ago

Omg, you are beyond stunning! Love everything about this. I just bought a tweedy jacket at the rack but I think mine is a miss after seeing yours. Super
    Awesome, Aida!

  • Momo replied 8 years ago

    Beautiful! Love it all.

  • Colette replied 8 years ago

Aida, you look beautiful and I love everything about this outfit! Including your HAIR! I don't have gorgeous curls like you but I do a messy top knot most of the time I'm lounging at home.

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

The silver shoes, the tweed jacket, the new 'do - it's all gorgeous. I am loving your new style direction.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Wow, this is edgy!!!!! and brilliant- each piece and the whole combo- head to toe!!!! YLF Aida!

  • Vix replied 8 years ago

    Hi Aida --

Just had to say how much I love your hair like this -- but then I loved the shorter cut you shared back in your wedding photos and this reminds me of that to some degree.

Of course the outfit is full of your usual intriguing mixes! Will be fun to see what you come up with along these lines moving forward.

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

Bit late to the party, but I really love this look too.  It is slightly less slouchy and very pretty and cool.  I am pleased that you loved it and enjoyed wearing it.

You always provide such helpful advice to me (and others) but I cannot suggest any improvements here because it is just lovely.

  • marianna replied 8 years ago

So pretty/fun/fab/etc! Love everything about this and your hair looks fantastic.

  • rabbit replied 8 years ago

Your hair is super cute this way, and the jacket and jeans and silver shoes (please go on sale, please go on sale) are just perfect.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Good gravy ladies, thank you all so much! Not sure how I will be able to continue getting dressed not in this outfit now ;) Thanks also for the hair love. Can't have my fine, thin hair up as often as I'd like to but this looser style should be much gentler on it when I do.

Brooklyn, interesting about the 50s thing. That's not a decade I gravitate to but I do have a rockabilly streak in me which seems to manifest that way.

Joy, it's quite the mix isn't it! But the things you point out are definitely what I'd like to shoot for in an outfit: something classic, something pretty/glam, something retro, and something punk/boho (depending on my mood ^^). It seems I'm always going to have just a little tomboy feel in my best outfits -- probably because that's very authentic to my personality.

Suz, the silver shoes are very nice. TTS. Was able to walk all day in them just fine.

Sterling, how fun! If you haven't yet ordered the jeans (or even if you did) I wanted to mention that they do run large, so if you want a fit like this you will need to size down. This pair is down one size (fits like slim BF) and I also have a white pair that's down two sizes (fits like normal skinnies).

Style Fan, "Pretty Punk" is actually one of my style descriptors so woohoo for nailing it!

Maneera, re the hair working with outfits: I do my hair before deciding what I'm wearing! Whatever vibe it ends up with for the day (70s, 80s, slick pony, soft pony, etc.) dictates the direction my outfit goes.

Kelly, what jacket did you get? You always have excellent jackets (and dresses!), I'm sure the one you bought is great. Let's see it!

  • Jenava replied 8 years ago

Great look!  Love those shoes; I had my eye on them in white, but decided they were just too impractical for me.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you Jenava! For me these will pull double duty as sandals since I don't really wear those. I can see how they would be impractical with a little one to chase around. You'll be back to them soon! :)

  • dashielle (Ann) replied 8 years ago

SO...FRIKKIN...ADORABLE! Just popping in to add to the chorus. You've found the one outfit to rule them all, so sit back and relax...PRECIOUSSSSSS.
