WIW 02.16-21, 24-27

Hi ladies, it's been a while ^^ Work has been extra hectic! I've been checking in on the forum and dutifully snapping outfit photos every day even though I haven't been posting, and promise that I've been representing YLF well. I've got some favorites picked out from the past few months which I'd really like to have in my YLF blog, so if you gals will indulge me I'm going to do a photo-heavy post of winter favorites and weekend looks soon. As much as I want to get back to posting more regularly, I probably couldn't go back to daily or near-daily until the end of the month or so. In the meantime I'm starting with two weeks of work outfits, sorry for the overload ;)

I haven't really been shopping so all of these outfits are composed of "old" items, as is the case with much of what I've been wearing overall this season. Since our winter has been so mild (sorry to the gals who are buried in snow!) I've been able to use several pieces from this past spring/summer's purchases (in these outfits, the white skinnies and windowpane trousers). Everything else here is at least a year or more old. I have been grateful for the mild weather since it's allowed me to mix my all-season items in with my fall/winter pieces to keep things feeling fresher! In particular here: a couple of pieces were purchased for fall out of season last spring (the marled sweater in #1 and the colorblocked cashmere sweater in #5), one is a gift from my sis (the holo clutch), and just two are actual "new for fall" purchases (the chain detail booties and the leo clutch).

Not going to write a whole thing about each outfit, just a brief thing or two:

  1. Inspired by Angie's ensemble to mix ink, brown, gray, and black but obviously sans ink (has olive and denim blue instead).
  2. I don't know if I'll participate in the high-waisted pants trend, but I have been enjoying tucking into my few mid-rise bottoms.
  3. Also still enjoying mixing pastels with black.
  4. An old favorite combo. Didn't end up wearing it without the jacket.
  5. A take on mixing black, red, and white with some gray thrown in for good measure (more colors! more patterns!).
  6. Another take on mixing black, red, and white with my skin acting as the white element (a perk of being pale). You gals have already seen this on Angie's Westfield Chinese New Year's blog post.
  7. Detail photos for the week. Plum lippie in 1, 3, and 4; orange in 2; cherry-pink in 5; nude-for-me peach in 6.
  8. Even though it's been fairly dry I haven't worn many of my wider pants this winter. This is a favorite outfit from early last year.
  9. A little romantic-tomboy in dark and moody colors. I normally wouldn't wear my hair down with an outfit this dark, but the huge swathe of lace on the neckline of this sweater goes a long way to making me feel light enough.
  10. Haven't worn this dress in a couple years but the wintery colors and light fabrication make it quite nice for spring-like weather!
  11. A more standard weekend look for me, but I needed the outfit to also work for a hockey game in the evening. Made sure to incorporate several black elements to help the exposed black tights balance better.
  12. Detail photos for the week. Plum lippie all week.
Overall, despite being only somewhat happy with my current fall/winter wardrobe I am still quite happy with the way I've been able to style those pieces this season, particularly when I'm able to mix in items from my spring/summer wardrobe which, stylistically, resonate better with me.

As always comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

Gee Aida this is such a burden - and you say you have many more in store. Oh wow, I am not sure I can take all this fab. Of course I am kidding, I want to gobble up every single one.
    Without further ado:
#1 The brown adds the twist and I love the clutch.
#2 Beautiful - this might be my favorite - we'll see!
#3 Love the color of the top. I am always looking for current looking pastel inspiration!
#4 Looks terrific with or without the jacket - it's only getting warmer right?
#5 Great color blocking and nice to see that jacket, I haven't worn mine in a while.
    #6 Recognized! Perfect pattern mix.
    #8 Perfect slouchy wide pants.
    #9 Love the shorts!
#10 Like the obi belt with this - they seem to be coming back?
    #11 my other favorite!

Great to see you Aida - love your hair!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Can't tell you how nice it is to see you Aida!

Gorgeous outfits as always. I am always mystified at how fabulously you wear light footwear as a brunette:)

Love the skirt in #3 and #8 is brilliant.  Just love the combination of the corporate looking pant and the plaid shirt.

    Looking good.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

OK -- This is cruel to make such a wonderful slideshow of spring fashion when I'm stuck in a snowdrift!

I've made this post a favorite.  I shall look at it in a month, when i can pull out my spring duds!

I love the way you find items that are "in style," while making them truly your own.

  • gradfashionista replied 9 years ago

The dress with the obi belt is definitely my fav. Thanks for taking the time to post, I miss seeing the WIWs from some of the absentee YLFers from a few years ago.

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

So good to see you, Aida!  And you are looking fab as usual.  I am very jealous of the fact that you can wear things like skirts and shorts with tights.  Spring seems very far away in Boston right now.

My favorite outfit of these is #8.  I just love the plaid and stripe mixing, and the silhouette with the wide trousers.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

    What a treat!  I have been thinking of you.  I think back often to our talks this past September -- I hope your family members living abroad are well and safe.  {{Hugs}}

Now -- for the really important things -- FASHION!  You look stylish, gorgeous and radiant in each one of these outfits.  You are such a fashionista and I mean that in the best sense.  You put it all together brilliantly, every last detail.  I love  ...
… how you pattern mix between the sweater and the clutch in #1
… the gorgeous ink and cream color scheme of #2, the perfect fluid fit, and the way the clutch spots tie in with your hair
… the soft, feminine colors and fabrics in #3 juxtaposed with the hard edge footwear and black tights
… the bold color scheme of #4, plus no one can bookend black footwear like you!
… the multiple patterns in #5 playing together harmoniously, so Milano Fashion Week street style
    … the punk-done-elegant feel of #6
… the close-ups, you wear the dangly chandeliers as convincingly as the studs in #7
… the slouchy, elegant ease of #8
… the school boy shorts in #9 made feminine by the face-framing lace detail of the top
… the waist-defining wrap dress in #10 -- the dress may be a few years old, but it's right on track for this year's 70s revival
… the surprise in #11 of boyfriend jeans in the winter -- how clever to show a peek of the black tights
…. YOUR HANDS.  In #12 -- the pale pink manicure, so feminine, and I noticed that it coordinates with your lip color!

Swoon.  Looking forward to your next collection.  :-)

  • Sal replied 9 years ago

I am also pleased to see these pics. You look great! I always enjoy your mix of pieces, some old and some new, and how they look so YOU.

I love the dress and your patterned trousers looks the best. Wonderful. But they are all stellar.

I admire your attention to detail. This is where I want to up my game, to amp my looks more either with better makeup, nails or special jewellery.

  • Summer replied 9 years ago

You achieve such variety in your outfits, all of which are beautiful.  It's reassuring to hear that all these lovely looks were created using your existing wardrobe.

The stand-out outfit for me is the gorgeous zig-zag dress with the obi belt - absolutely stunning.

  • frannieb replied 9 years ago

Wow - what a gorgeous collection of outfit.  My favorites or 1, 2 and 3 -  You look fab in pastels.  Your attention to detail in all your outfits is fab and another who is always inspired by your use of light colored boots.
Excited to see your next round of pictures.

  • harmonica replied 9 years ago

Oh my... I'm out of words.... F A B  all around! Your style is just incredible. Love the graphic look and how you combine casual and dressier items.

I'll come back to the thread and take a closer look.

  • Daria replied 9 years ago

Wow Aida, first time I see your WIW and you look gorgeous. My favorites are #1,2 and 4 but I really love all of them.

  • replied 9 years ago

So nice to see your pretty face again :)  As usual, I'm loving it all - especially the DVF look - that's something a little different !  Your ring game is "on point" as my DD would say - and your hair is looking fantastic too.  Just happy to see you again!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

SQUEEEEE!!!! An Aida post with lots of pretty pictures :)

As always, you look fantastic. I swear you never get it wrong. It's also very inspiring to see someone remix older items with such panache.

I particularly love #5 for the fantastic high contrast color combination and #8 for the gorgeous drape and PPL of those trousers. And how nice to see "our" dress in #10. I purged that dress myself but am now wishing I hadn't... :)

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

Geesh, such a difficult burden to see all these great outfits. So happy to see you post! You look great and I esp. love #4, 5, 9 and 11. I think the colors in #4 and #5 in particular are incredible on you.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Another brilliant comprehensing post from Aida! All beautifull but nr 2,4, 5, 9 and 10 is TDF!!!  WOW, and 8 is outstandingly fabulicious to my eyes! Love your hair all down sooo much!:-)

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Ooh, what a treat! I love all of these but 2,5,8, and 11 especially singe to me! You have such an amazing sense of style! Great to see you :)

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

I have to run, but had to quickly chime in that's it's VERY fun to see your killer style on the forum again. Miss you.

LOVING the '70s vibe, girlfriend. Have to go with #4, #5 and #6 as my faves, Queen EVERY COLOUR IN THE RAINBOW which you wear with panache.

  • AM replied 9 years ago

Great collection (and great images). This is the first time I've seen your outfits. Wow. FAB. My fav's 2, 4, and 9. I think it is because I love that bold medium tone (cobalt blue and the coral/orange) and I enjoy one statement piece that really shines with a backdrop of some neutrals. #2 -- the pants just pop (and the creams are bold but play a a neutral); #4 - the great coral/orange jacket with black/white as neutrals (but the black boots are also quite bold and wonderful!); and #9 the lace work of the sweater with the shorts as the strong features but within the black (neutral). I believe my tastes might be a bit safe so I'd be interested to know your favorites.

  • MsMaven replied 9 years ago

Great to see you here again. I love the way you are using and mixing blues and greens, and every outfit is inspirational.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

    Looking great and energised! #1, 4, 6, 9 & 11 are my faves.

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

So great to see your wonderful style!   My favs are #2, 4, 5, and 6 for the bold primary color and and pattern and perfect silhouettes on you.

I also have been looking for a pair of shorts to wear over tights like in #9, those are great 'winter' shorts.

I've been really enjoying mixing all seasons lately too in the PNW and you are inspiring me to document some of my fav outfits from our warm winter.

  • replied 9 years ago

Yay! It's so good to see you post again Aida! Love, love, love all these fab outfits. Such a feast for the eyes. A few faves for me are 2,4,5,6,8 and 10. But really all are my favourites :)

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

I always love looking at your posts.  Your combinations look great and are always slightly unexpected, at least to matchy-matchy me (for example, I would have worn black boots in #1 and never would have even considered brown).  I love your white booties and the black ones with all the hardware.  So fun!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Holy smokes ladies, thank you all for the amazing comments and feedback! I'm feeling well loved, this forum is truly a wonderful and special place <3

Jaime and Denise, thank you in particular for your detailed comments about each and every outfit, and to AM for the detailed explanation of why you liked those three outfits in particular. I really appreciate it!

Deborah, hah yes the light footwear mystery. I think it's mainly due to my very pale skin ;)

Beth Ann and Diana (and the rest of your poor lovelies buried in snow), may the snow clear soon so that you can start wearing your spring duds!

Gradfashionista, thanks for the sweet sentiment. I miss those gals too. Here's hoping that they'll pop by to share what they've been doing and wearing.

Kiwigal, hmm I certainly enjoy wearing printed trousers (which feel very me) far more than plain ones, but generally prefer solids in denim. Something interesting for me to think about moving forward.

Summer and Shannon, happy to hear that the remixing is appreciated. I've been trying very hard to get more in the mindset of enjoying my pieces first instead of constantly looking for new things first. A little tough when I want trends as a big part of my style, but for now I am OK with being a little less ahead of the curve than I've tried to be in the past. And the remixing certainly stretches those styling muscles.

Frannieb and Texstyle, thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding colors! I know it looks like I just wear whatever, but I really am picky about what colors make it into my wardrobe. Nice to hear that it's paying off.

Harmonica, Daria, Kelly, MsMaven, Rachy, and Diane, thank you very much!

Lisa, I do have a few wrap-style dresses but rarely wear them. I think I'll be pulling them out more this year -- Even though I have plenty of 70s glam in my style already, they feel good for this year, you know?

Lyn67, ah thanks for the hair compliment. I have been feeling a bit frazzled with it lately, feeling like I need a change but not sure what that is yet. Glad to hear that it at least looks good in the meantime ;)

Angie, hah I will wear my color crown with pride! As Mary often says, equal opportunity color wearer here -- Missing the yellow in the outfits above, but hey I'm wearing it today ^^ You know what's funny? I keep trying to expand my "touch of 80s" or downplay some of the 70s-ness... but no matter what that 70s glam/drama is just always there. I think I'm officially done thinking of it as anything other than the core of my style. Happy to embrace it.

Rabbit, it's been fun right? Now maybe I won't feel that way by August after wearing the same stuff, but at least for now it's been really nice having the (nearly) complete wardrobe to play with. I'd love to see your winter favorites, I hope you'll post them!

Sara, nothing wrong with being matchy! I have my matchy days, too. Isn't it great that we can wear it either way? If you do want to branch out, mixing neutrals is a fun, albeit unexpected, place to start.

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

It seems so unfair to pick favourites, but I will vote for # 2 & # 9, love them both. Your hair is looking fantastic Aida :)

  • merwoman replied 9 years ago

Wow - what a challenge to pick a favourite! Aida, I love the variability in your style - your hair, silhouette, footwear. Each look completely different and all fab.  Hope work has been a 'good' hectic and that we see more of your posts!

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

These are all ridiculously fab. You rock a patterned bottom like nobody else! My faves are the ones with the plaid shirts. Insouciance, thy name is Aida! :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

wow--a collection of super outfits! My faves are 9, 10, and 11--love the blues and water colors. The dress is so pretty on you, and you really rock a pair of boyfriend jeans. I think I fall for every shorts outfit you come up with, too, but this one looks especially fab with the little patent loafers and tights. How fun.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you Caro, Mary, and Sharan!

Merwoman, yes happily work has been good hectic. I swapped to working full-time instead of part-time (hence the dwindling forum participation), so the bossman has been accepting projects left and right ;)

  • AM replied 9 years ago

What are your favorites and why? I like to understand how others are interpreting their favorites. It helps me process my own journey. Thanks!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

AM, I should preface this by saying that I am both eclectic and a mood dresser so my answer will be a little complicated (apologies!). Every one of these outfits, if worn on a day that didn't suit my mood that day, would make me feel unhappy. So for me, "success" is a changing daily definition; I feel successful if I've come up with a fab outfit that also matches my mood for the day. I was able to do so with all of these, although #5 and #10 werent quite the right match for the days' mood so I felt a little off even though objectively I like both outfits a lot. That said there are a few types of looks that I could generally sport regardless of my mood. Of these outfits I'd say that #2, 4, 6, 8, and 11 could possibly fall into that category, while there are various elements in #1 (fitted silhouette), #3 (crazy volume), #5 (more masculine than I usually like), #9 (lots of exposed leg-line) and #10 (totally a pants/shorts gal) that make them more suited to some days over others. Perhaps not the answer you were looking for but that's the most accurate answer I can give you :)

  • AM replied 9 years ago

Thanks. I'm not familiar with Mood Dressing but I understand how this would play an integral role in defining success. Very interesting. I have no concept of that but I am going to chew on this.

Your comment "while there are various elements in #1 (fitted silhouette), #3 (crazy volume), #5 (more masculine than I usually like), #9 (lots of exposed leg-line) and #10 (totally a pants/shorts gal) that make them more suited to some days over others" -- I find very interesting. Why were they more suited to some days over others?

Sorry, but again, it really helps me to understand what's going on in your head.
And one more question, when you say that you're totally a pants/short gal...then do you push yourself to wear skirts and dress for the sake of variety?  Another reason. Again, sorry for all the questions.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

No problem, happy to discuss! The comment about elements being more suited to some days over others is a lot of the mood part. Some days I just don't feel comfortable donning a particular silhouette, or item, or even color. And some days I am. My guess is this is related to having eclectic tastes... or maybe it's the other way around ;) Sometimes I'll use the clothes to go along with my literal mood (like wearing a calm neutral outfit on a day when I'm feeling serene) and sometimes I'll use the clothes to go against it (like wearing BRIGHT colors on a gray day when I'm feeling down). But I don't always have the same reaction to what I'm feeling and can't always nail down just what the fashion mood is.

As for the pants/skirts, you are spot on: I do push myself to wear them for the sake of variety (I really need good variety in my bottoms in particular; I definitely wouldn't do well limited to a particular silhouette or uniform) and also because my husband likes them. Although sometimes I am actually in the mood to wear them, I'm definitely most comfortable in pants or shorts by default.

  • rae replied 9 years ago

waving hello from another busy bee. That red jacket of yours hits me where it hurts everytime. In a good way.I have had the same issue with high waisted pants. I think it is the short waist.I hope you are doing well, I have missed seeing your outfits!

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

So fun to see your outfits again. I love the mixing in 5,6 and am taking notes on the shorts and tights combo!

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

Lovely to see you post again! My favourites are #8 and #9. Love the wide leg pants, very cool. And the romantic tomboy vibe of #9 ist just my thing...

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Thank you Rae, Meredith, and Astrid!

Rae, I miss you too lady! Thinking of you today as spring baseball is starting <3 I think you're right about the high waisted pants; with a short waist it can be a bit tough. Luckily (for once) I have a longish rise so I can fudge it a bit.

Astrid, yes I can see both 8 and 9 as something you would wear ^^

  • AM replied 9 years ago

Just getting back to this. And thank you for discussing!

Very interesting to learn more about mood. Again, this is pretty new territory for me.

Your comment "As for the pants/skirts, you are spot on: I do push myself to wear them for the sake of variety (I really need good variety in my bottoms in particular)" - I can really relate to this and I'm trying to sort this out for me. I lean to a uniform as I work from home but I'm thinking I need some variety for when I'm out in the world, evenings with friends, special occasions, etc.

Again, thanks for discussing. Very helpful.
