WIW 01.25-29

This week I had the unexpected and unwelcome challenge of needing outfits that could take me overnight at the ER (and help with errands, chores, etc.) after a close family member was hospitalized Monday. Luckily it hasn't been necessary and hopefully the next few days are the same. Minus Monday, these outfits are more typical of my weekend wear rather than my usual work wear.

#2 Monday 01.25. Experimenting with soft pants tucked into tall boots. Liked the cropped sweater at first, but found it fussy at the hospital (plus way, way too warm). Felt much better after changing; ...
  Newer: pants, sweater, earrings
  Older: boots, coat, clutch, sunnies

... in the evening hubby brought me an overnight bag including the brown boots in #5 and an oversized charcoal sweater which I wore with the pants in #2 straight through Tuesday night. Was tooooo tired to snap a photo when I eventually got home after 28 hours (most of it awake) at the hospital, but I actually liked the outfit so I'll probably wear it again sometime.

#3 Wednesday 01.27. Was bummed to find that this sweatshirt dress shrunk a bit when I last washed it; I'm hoping I can re-block it back to longer next wash! Simple styling with leggings, boots, and neon necklace.
  Newer: dress, sunnies
Older: leggings, boots, necklace, coat, clutch

#4 Thursday 01.28. Similar to an outfit from last week for a very soggy day, swapping the top half for a cozy oversized sweater. I liked the other hair 'style' better; this felt a little too boyish. Worn with sentimental necklaces, the shorter a gift of a few favorite charms from my mom and the longer a gift from my husband way back when.
  Newer: sweater, jeans, hat
  Older: boots, necklaces, coat, clutch

#5 Friday 01.29. Not sure what this is but I felt very happy in it! Western 70s glam? ;) Initially tried untucked with stud earrings but MUCH preferred tucked with giant hoops. Bonus that my husband likes this outfit!
  Newer: blouse, jeans, sunnies
  Older: boots, earrings, coat, clutch

#6. Detail photos.

All are super cute outfits but my favorite is #1. Love how you pair each outfit with a coat.

The outfit in number 5 is outstanding.  I'm not sure I can articulate why, but the pretty shirt vs tougher brown boot/belt idea is beautiful on you.  I love your hair up like this too. The sweatshirt dress looks absolutely fine lengthwise to me - and I appreciate the pop of neon . That's a look I can  get behind, and have, and your rendition of it is lovely.

Sorry to hear about a hospital situation  - that is a tough time indeed and very tiring .  Hope your family member is ok.

Aida, I hope everything continues to go well for you and your family--sounds like quite a trying ordeal.
I like your cropped sweater in 1; I want to call it your Charlie Brown sweater, just because of the zig-zag design on it. You don't resemble Charlie brown in the slightest, of course. :)
My favorite outfit is the sweaterdress, and sorry to hear it shrank--but I wouldn't have known it, so I think it still looks great on you.
Then on second thought, how can I pick a favorite? I like them all. The new jeans in 5 are super fabulous on you.

The white and olive is my fave - and the hat. I'm sorry about your family member!

  • columbine(erin) replied 8 years ago

I hope your family member feels better.

You certainly have an interesting collection of pants and look very fab in all these outfits.

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

I hope your family member is ok.

All of your outfits are fab. I think my favourite is #5, the contest of floral blouse and utility style jeans, with your hair up. Cute necklaces too.

Love all, but the last one is my favorite. I think it's both the shirt and jeans that make it unique.

Fantastic Aida; you exude confidence and ease. Wishing a positive turnout to your relative's health situation and how blessed they are to have family that will rush to be with them. Xo

Love the sweatshirt dress!  Don't love the hospital.  Hope all is well after that ordeal.

Aida, you are lovely all around! I hope your family member is on the mend and I'm sure they appreciate you being by their side throughout. And might I add, looking as fashionable as always.

I really appreciate the way you break down your outfits and explain the elements. While our styles are different I find it extremely helpful and fun to see what you put together. I am drawn to #5, it's just perfect. And now I must have a sweatshirt dress. Your pop of neon necklace is why you are just so cool! Sorry your dress shrank but I think this length is great on you.

I hope everyone is alright. I know that it's very stressful and no fun at all to camp out at the hospital that way. Sending good thoughts to you all.

You look terrific in a crisis. How do you do that? I don't think I've ever looked that good at the hospital. ;-) I love the Friday outfit in particular -- such a fun juxtaposition of floral and rocker. The sweatshirt dress looks fantastic on you too, and it does not look any worse for the shrinking. I'm also enamoured with that fair isle sweater. I waited to late to try to buy it, waiting for a sale price, so I'm glad I get to enjoy it vicariously. :-)

My eye went straight to #4 because of your hat and hair. SO RIDICULOUSLY CUTE.

You are just one big bundle of sassy stylish cuteness, Aida!

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

There's our necklace! So sorry to hear you had to be in hospital - hope your family member is recovered now. You look terrific as always. I would have questioned the slouchy pants and tall boots but it totally works!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you ladies! And extra special thanks for the well wishes to me and my family, I truly appreciate them <3 So far everything is still good, she's just getting a lot of rest and recovering.

Re that last outfit, thank you for all the thoughts about it, very helpful. I have been mulling it all over and think it's both the mix of pretty/tough, a more tailored fit, and each element being less in-the-middle. More decidedly one thing or another. A lot of my pieces are of that in-the-middle category (e.g. a soft silk shirt in a BF cut), and I already know there's not as much tailoring as I'd like these days (which I've been, slowly, working on for a while now). So, more extreme each way... then mix it all together as usual! More rugged for weekend, more glam/pretty for work. From an actionable standpoint this means I need to continue focusing on adding more tailoring, but also add a few more decidedly-pretty pieces (what seems to be missing) to mix with my already existing tougher pieces (which I have and are tough enough already). Woo! I love having a plan ^^

Janet, hah well I certainly wouldn't have worn #1 had I known there would be such a long hospital visit coming ;) Sorry to hear you missed the fair isle sweater, I bet it would have been smashing on you. It's been an interesting ongoing challenge figuring out how to bring more of my punk side to my look in an authentic way; most days I still don't feel like I'm doing a good enough job but it's slowly getting there.

I hope your family member is on the mend. What an ordeal! You certainly pulled through it looking super stylish.....I can imagine your tiredness.

All these outfits are fabulous, Aida. I still love the sweatshirt dress....hope you can fix the shrinkage in the next wash though. I really do like the last outfit too ....very sharp....very You

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thanks Maneera! I was able to pull the dress a bit, we'll see how much more I can get out of it. As it is now I wouldn't be super comfortable wearing bare legged, which is actually how I best liked it before. Fingers crossed! And thank you for the well wishes <3

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

Just popping in to say you are looking fab!  Sorry to hear about the hospitalization, it's stressful I know.

I love #4, casual chic right up my alley, I want to copy-cat that look.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Sorry about the hospital but glad the patient is doing ok. Love your outfits individually and as a whole. Super fun to see the knee boots in the first one - they look so fresh with the loose trousers. Especially like the neon necklace with the plaid coat. You look so good with your hair up under the beret and the shorter sweater. A different movie star this time - I need to crack that. Love the colorful top and cognac accents - that is sort of what I have been going for on my colorful days, if that makes sense. In awe of giant earrings too!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Hoping that your family members are stable and doing okay.

  • replied 8 years ago

Firstly Aida, I'm sorry to hear of your family member and hope that she recovers very quickly. You must have had a worrying and tiring week.

How you managed to look so great all week is beyond me. I don't think I'm ever disappointed when I open up one of your outfit threads :) Once again there are some lovely colour combos and lots of yummy textures. And that hat! So fab!

  • approprio replied 8 years ago

You look adorable in that hat. Hope all's well with the family.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Thank you, everyone, for the lovely and sweet comments. Very much appreciate them.

Jaime, colorful with cognac accents has been fun this winter hasn't it. Once it warms up I usually swap the color for white/gray when pairing with cognac, maybe this year I'll continue playing with the color. And I do loves me giant earrings :D I wear these gold hoops a lot, I think I need a few variations.

Angie, thanks for chiming back with well-wishes <3

Love the way you use light and mid-tone neutrals to create modern looks that also have a girly side!  I'm excited to hear that you're exploring more "pretty" and "tailoring" simultaneously.  It's helpful to hear/see fabbers make gradual style shifts, making use of what's already in their closets.

  • Gigi replied 8 years ago

I'm sorry to hear about your family member. I'm glad that she is recovering and that you were able to spend some time with her while she was in the hospital.

Your outfits are just so amazing! I like them all. I think my favorites are the first and the last. Too bad that the cropped sweater was fussy...it looks so good in the pic.

I really love your hair up with those hoops! I must find some large hoops and try that. I have hair that is similar to yours, though a little less curly and a little shorter, but I think I could be a good enough copycat! :) And I love the fish pendant.
