WIW 01.23-25

Couple outfits from the early part of the week.

  1. Weekend wear, worn to watch some football and generally hang out at home. The jeans are more PPL than the photo shows, the brick dips down right where I was standing.
  2. Worn to take my kitty to the vet for his annual checkup, then out for tacos with friends. Trench from the swap :)
  3. Worn to work. Felt like looking a bit unapproachable today, ever have those days?

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

    I like #2 and #3.

Great outfits, Aida! You do rock stripes, that's for sure! Love the turquoise on you and the red! I'm wondering how you manage to put together such striking outfits when the individual pieces are so simple? I want to channel that! You look fab, as usual!

ETA: Unapproachable? I think not. I would not have been deterred.

You look fab! I always look forward to your posts! I especially love the pants in #3!

  • Angie replied 13 years ago

I LOVE outfit #2 and your hair looks amazing like that! You rock tomato red.

You have such a gorgeous smile - that I saw in person last week. I want to see you smile in your beautiful collages too!

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

Oh, the red! And the trench! Love it! I think red up to your face would look fab with your coloring.

    Thanks for the comments ladies!

    Anna, Mary - Thanks!

Kelly - I thought a lot about what you said, and I'm not sure I have a good answer! Here's what I came up with though: I think that with simpler pieces you have to pay even MORE attention to details because there's just less interest going on in the pieces themselves (separate from creating contrast and wearing flattering cuts/colors). I know my early outfits from last year were considerably less striking, partially because I wasn't doing anything with my hair, partially because I wasn't wearing accessories, and partially because some of the fit and colors were off. And maybe not enough attitude, too ;) These days I try to think of everything I can including odd little details; for example in #2 I experimented with how high I should push my sleeves up, how thick the cuffs should be, and where the knot in the pearls should fall. I will continue to think on this...

Angie - Well thank you! I will try to smile more in my outfit photos. I take them in the morning and I am totally not a morning person (it's almost ridiculous). I also worry about my eyes disappearing when I smile my true smile ;)

Una - I think I need a red turtleneck! Now on my list. I feel my skin is more yellow than the photos show, I'm always confused that it looks so pink! But I'm also confused about what my skin tone is, so what do I know ;)

Great week, I particularly love the trench! what a great score!

Kelly had hit the nail on the head - that IS why I too love your style so much and find you so inspiring, because you manage to make something special from such a simple pieces. Outfit 2 is a prime example, I really love what you did with the sleeves and somehow it doesn't look frumpy, when it easily could have. What I particularly like is the element of surprise, the outerwear does not give any indications what color and what style tricks are hidden underneath your fab new trench. Aida, you have your niche in the YLF world and I surely am an avid fan.

I really love #3! It's casual but it has just the right amount of "tough elegance" to it. Are those pants velvet--love them! I need to also take a tutorial from you on how you did those photos.

  • Lynne replied 13 years ago

Lovely, as always, Aida! Your 'unapproachable' outfit wouldn't have deterred me, either :D.

  • catgirl replied 13 years ago

Aida, you do not look like you have yellow undertones to me. But I know there is some kind of way to test this, like holding up a white piece of paper or something. Maybe Angie can chime in. I know I always feel I look sallow and jaundiced in winter, and it takes the right red to avoid bringing that out.

    A red turtleneck sounds perfect!

Thanks for your thoughtful response, Aida. I think you are spot on about fit and details. When I think about putting together an Aida outfit, I am somewhat limited. My basics are my weakest items--most cannot stand alone because of various fit/style issues. My basic tees--all too short for pants; my winter jackets--not fitted enough through the body because I needed to size up for the shoulders. I think until I fill these gaps, I'm going to have to stick with my typical, more busy layering style. Next week, just for fun, I think I'm going to try and copy one of your outfits : )

All that good stuff said above PLUS everything about your pics are great! They look like catalogue pieces!!

  • Cilleena replied 13 years ago

I love these looks, Aida! Number 2 is my favorite! I really love the way you have your hair in #2, it shows off the beautiful shape of your hair line, just gorgeous! The trench is awesome too!

  • Scarlet replied 13 years ago

Very nice, Aida. I love 1 with the jacket. That jacket looks awesome on you. In 2, I really like how you pulled off the dark boots over lighter jeans, and that jacket also looks awesome on you as does your hair. I really like the composition of 3 as well, especially the colors choices. I admire how you really seem to be thinking from top to toe.

  • CocoLion replied 13 years ago

I agree with Scarlett, the leather jacket in #1 is stunning. It fits you perfectly. It also goes well with the shoes you have on in #1 and the light colored denim. I LOVE light denim with black leather, a tattered black sweater, etc.

So all the looks are very pulled together and chic but #1 is my favorite. You could wear any number of different tops with this jacket, perhaps also a longer top that is fitted?

Where did you get the jacket?

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

I'd love to see #1 with a longer collared shirt too. Great colors here, red, turquoise, and those pants in #3, swoon!

  • Angie replied 13 years ago

Oh that's so funny, Aida! That you're not a morning person. Trust me, we can still see your lovely eyes when you smile :)

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks everyone for all the comments, I'm so grateful for all the feedback! Apologies for the long reply but I wanted to be sure to hit everyone :)

Taylor, Lynne, Patty - Thanks very much!

Ellie - I'm so happy to hear that people find my outfits inspiring, as simple as they are! Also happy you like my outerwear/innerwear surprises, I have fun coming up with them :)

Dana - The pants are corduroy (sorry Angie!), but the wales are very very narrow and shallow; the material is light and drapey, and they do feel similar to crushed velvet (I also have a dark brown pair). One of these days I'll get around to doing a photo/collage tutorial ><

Una - I've tried the tests and I can't seem to figure it out. My sis says I have both pink and yellow undertones, so I've almost decided I may actually have "neutral" skin, but knowing for sure would make shopping a lot easier!

Kelly - Yeah, my wardrobe is almost entirely composed of basics; I need to branch out a bit! I'd love to see what you come up with for a copy outfit :D I actually wore an outfit inspired by one of yours this past Saturday, I'll try to post it soon (#1 from here)!

Cilleena - Thanks! I copied this bun look from photos of my mom at my age and I really like it! I definitely plan to work it in more often. Also want to try with a hair stick!

Scarlet - Color palette is one of the main things I think about when putting outfits together, so I'm glad you like them :)

Coco - I prefer lighter denim to darker denim myself! The only dark denim I have are a pair of black skinnies. The jacket is Calvin Klein from fall 2009, my sis bought it for me for xmas that year :D I love the looser "boyfriend" fit of it, I don't see a lot of women wearing leather jackets with this cut.

Lisa - Do you mean a longer collared shirt under, above, or instead of the sweater for #1?

Angie - I'll do my best to smile more this week! If I can get up early enough to have hubby take the photos he always gets me to to smile, but he leaves a lot earlier than I do.

  • Becky replied 13 years ago

Great looks, Aida! Your style persona really shines through; each outfit is totally "you."

  • Sue replied 13 years ago

Outfit #2 is my fav! The red stands out and looks really great on you. :D

#3 is fab as well. Love the jacket and necklace.

    You have great style!

  • Lisa replied 13 years ago

Aida-I meant the longer collared shirt under #1 might be fun so the edges peek out.
