Which size Leith track pants to keep?

Hi ladies, another sizing question for you all! These are the Leith track pants that Angie posted, in two sizes. Again the photos look rather similar :\

The smaller size is loose, and the larger size is very loose (feels 90s legit loose, did anyone else see tons of giant track pants back then?). The smaller size has about a 1.5" dropped crotch worn as in #1, and about 2.25" for #2; the larger size is about 3" and adds an additional inch of fabric all around. I would be wearing them lower as in #2 and #3, but posted #1 so you could get a sense of how much smaller the smaller size is. The larger size is borderline falling off of me, by the way; a swift tug could drop them right off! The smaller _feels_ more fab on (since it's so much less baggy) but I have a hunch it's too slim for this type of pant.

Photo #1: smaller size, sitting above hips
Photo #2: smaller size, sitting on hips
Photo #3: larger size, sitting low on hips
Photo #4: Left-to-right - same order as photos 1-3.

Questions: 1) Which size looks better? 2) Are they too long for me?

Thanks in advance for the input!

I don't think they are too long, and the smaller size looks better to my eye. You loose the nice bum line in the larger size. They are a very sleek looking pant. Are they comfortable?

I'm sorry but I can't tell the difference between the two sizes, other than I think the larger size looks a little bigger from the back view. I would go for the smaller size, in the rare event that a small child runs past, tugs at your pants and they fall right off!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

The difference is quite subtle in the pictures. They look great on you and I love #4 every which way. Since the smaller feels more fab I will say go with that, but if Angie and other wiser minds tell you otherwise, go with that!

I vote the smaller sizes in both the pants and the jacket. You look amazing on both.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Hmm interesting that the smaller is preferred, I thought for sure they'd be considered too snug at the hip/bum for this style! I'm still very interested in feedback if you have it :)

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

I would say the larger size. They both look very similar, and I think the larger size adds a bit more slouch.

If you want better bum, though, smaller size for sure.

  • replied 11 years ago

To me, the smaller is big enough, bum looks great in it.

Hmm, on my monitor, I can't really tell them apart, except that the larger size looks longer! Which ones do you like?

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Jonesy, from the front I like the smaller; from the back and side the larger (and sometimes the smaller, I go back and forth -_-). The concern is that slouchy pants shouldn't really look like they pull across one's seat, and I can't tell if these do or not! Not sure track pants should be highlighting that, anyway ;) I have been thinking that maybe the perfect size for me fall right in between these two. As I said above, the smaller size feels more fab because it's less baggy, but the larger size seems more "correct" for this style of pant.

  • Kalli replied 11 years ago

I say go larger because of the slouchy look aims for less backside hugging. I do like how sleek the smaller one looks but I tend to run away from thinner pants that hug that area even though that area is visually appealing on you.

It's hard to see from the pics (impossible to photograph black!), but from your description it sounds like the larger size is better.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I don't see that big of a difference, but going from when I tried two sizes myself, I liked how the smaller ones draped/moved better. I felt like the bigger ones got balooney while moving about.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I like the smaller ones - thought the fronts look similar; the back on the smaller ones looks a much better fit imo.

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

I prefer the smaller ones but certainly do not consider myself an expert in the correct fit for this cut of pant. Also, do you anticipate these will shrink at all? (not sure if they are a washable or dry clean pant or the fabric content...) Might be a consideration?

This look SO fantastic on you. The difference is not visually significant in the pics but I'm going with the smaller size.

I am following this with interest. My regular size feels large and like it could drop off any minute but a size smaller (small) is sold out.

Aida, I also felt with the Leith pants that I fell between the two sizes I ordered, and you describe the differences as I would. I just decided to keep them both and wear them differently depending on my mood and my topper. If I had to absolutely choose one pair for me, I would keep the bigger size, even though it as loose on me as you describe the larger size is on you, visually it is not a big difference between the two, but one the wearer feels. I also need the extra leg length that I get from it, but that isn't an issue for you. I wear the larger size up on my natural waist where it could be gently tugged right off -- but I decided with that wide elastic waistband (even though it did gape a bit untied) they wouldn't exactly fall off in reality; and the smaller size I wear on my high hip. With you being petite, I am not sure if this works as well for you. I also feel, as you do, with this style pants that if I had to err, I should err on the side of looser/slouchier when in doubt. But bottom line is I couldn't decide, I kept going back and forth, so I kept them both just in case and plan to wear them both. The price point of these pants helped with making that decision.

ETA: These pants look absolutely fantastic on you and I love the leg length. After really studying your photos, I would go with the bigger size if you had to keep the one pair. But I think you should keep both for their slightly different profiles and feel.

It's really hard to see a difference from the pics, so if you feel more comfortable in the smaller size, go for that.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

OMG, I don't know which size as long as you keep at least ONE of them!!! LOVE!!

(PS...am eagerly awaiting a pair of my own shipped by a kind YLF buddy....we can be YLF trouser twins/quadruplets/quintuplets/octuplets....)

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Ooh, I love these on you too. It does look like length is the main difference. Tough choice!

  • cinnamon fern replied 11 years ago

Both are great, but I slightly prefer the smaller size. Partly I think the length is better.

I've washed mine a couple times (didn't put them in the dryer) - they will not shrink.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I can't tell them apart either - I vote go with the ones you like best fullstop.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Smaller size! You look so good in them.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

I can't see pulling either. Both look like they have plenty of volume and scrunch. Go with what feels right to you, the one that makes you feel fab.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you all so much for the fantastic feedback! I tried them both on again this morning and definitely feel better in the smaller pair; the larger is just ridiculously roomy which I'd be fine with IF they were a proper trouser and not a track pant. And also the shorter length of the smaller pair feels better. So! I shall keep the smaller size, and thanks for helping me feel better about trusting my instincts on these :)

Rae, balloony is definitely a good way to describe that feeling!

Claudia, YES exactly!! I can't wear the larger pair anywhere but low on the hip because the next widest part of me is the shoulder ;) Because they are so long on me, for myself I don't think it'd be worth keeping both pairs; if they were a couple inches shorter, I probably would though.
