Reports booties take two: beige

The beige Report Marks booties arrived earlier in the week, and I was finally able to snap some photos of them. Please pardon the messy bed-head, my free morning time has been few and far between this week.

Compared to the red, I would say I like these a bajillion times more (technically speaking, of course). Honestly it's NO contest for me. These boots didn't seem to work with any of my skinnies, and are too wide for my straight legs which means they would be shorts/skirts/dresses only (my wide leg pants are hemmed for higher heels) as expected. And since I wanted a summer boot specifically, these are definitely more suited to my style than the red (I had originally been hoping for cream). I know everyone really liked the red but I think colorful booties may just not be for me.

The color is somewhere in between what you see in photo #2. Not quite tan, not quite beige. I WISH they were the color they look in the outdoor photo, that would be exactly perfectly what I wanted. So I am not sure if these are too greige for me? But I do like the shape and they are very comfortable. These are also less suede than the red (weird?) and I like this material a LOT more. EDIT: Have to also say that my skin is not nearly as pink as it appears in these indoor photos, it definitely has a bit more gold to it.

So what do you ladies think of these? What do you think of these versus the red? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this!

They seem like a light taupe to to me. I really like them on you and think they go great with your skin tone. They aren't really a nude on you but I think they would work very well in any combination that you would likely pair nude booties.

    Yay from me!

I personally would love to have colorful booties so I liked the red ones as well :-)
However if this color suits your style better then go for it. They look like warm taupe and it is low in contrast to your skin but they are not nude. So I guess it is a question if you want nude or low contrast booties. :-)

I really liked the red ones on you, but I like these as well. The taupe might be more versatile for you, too.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

well, I have these, so I'm not unbiased, LOL!

I've found them SUPER comfy. They work with my straight legs (which must be a bit wider than yours ) and my Long and Leans (well...on dry days...) And I wear them with dresses and skirts, too.

I loved the red on you, too, but if these are more practical, do try them. I think you'll end up happy with them.

I dunno, what are you looking for in a bootie? Based on what you said, it seems like the taupe would be better if you're just looking to put together an outfit easily; OTOH, the red would be better if you're looking to challenge yourself and push your boundaries a bit.

From your previous post, it sounds like you'll be wearing these booties primarily with bare legs. _Personally_, I like the lower-contrast boot because it keeps my eyes on the top part of your outfit; with the red booties, I feel like you're asking me to admire your booties ... but first my eyes have to travel down your legs to get to them**.

** I hope I don't get banned for writing what feels like the world's creepiest comment!!!

They look good to me and I see how you might prefer these to the bright red ones.

Do your heels slip in them when you walk? Mine do and I can't figure out if that means the boots are too big or if they're designed that way.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

I like them way better than the red. I LOVE them in #2 outside!

  • christy replied 11 years ago

    LOL at Charmian! :)

Aida, while I thought the red were super fun, I did see them working better for you with jeans. If you want summer boots to wear with shorts and skirts, I agree that this is a better color. Although I will admit to a bias towards the shorts and less the dresses/skirts. (I still haven't gotten used to the more gappy bootie look with skirts/dresses.) But I ADORE them with the shorts (#2 in the outside shots - love!) and can totally see you rock these up with some of your AMAZING shorts outfits!

By the way, my preference towards the booties with shorts more than skirts makes absolutely no sense...you're showing the same amount of leg (fi not more)! So I have absolutely no way I can defend that position! ;)

Oh, I like these so much better! These outfits feel less forced than the ones you styled with the red version. Plus I think it jives well with your shift toward softer dressing - in this case it's not soft fabrication, but a soft color, but still. These look perfect for bare legs, IMO.

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

I think RAE felt what I see also, they fit right into your wardrobe and on you perfectly. Just like you always had them. They are 100% KEEP from me! I struggle liking red shoes also but never can find the right ones. But some day!

I love my Report marks booties in this greige color, so I am biased. I also got the red ones but they were too big. (They were sold out in my usual size so I got a half size bigger but it was more than an insole could solve.) I also got the Angie-recommended DV teal booties from the Nordies half yearly sale. They are bright but less bright than the red. I haven't styled them yet. They have a smaller opening so I can wear them with straight legged jeans and skinnies.

There are some negative reviews about comfort and quality but I find them divine! Yes I did order half a size up.

So, I have two pairs of booties good for now and ready for fall, together for the price of one pair. I would say I am very happy with my purchases.

ETA -- 2 years ago when I got some booties like these in black and brown, I was afraid this look would be over in a season. I am so glad this trend has gone on for several seasons. Yay that Isabel Marant and Rag and Bone continue to sell high end versions of these, coming out with new colors all the time. This style of footwear is leg-lengthening and comfortable, for heeled shoes at least.

I really didn't love the red booties, but wasn't sure how to express it, so didn't comment at the time. I like these ones much more. At first I was uncertain about the greige color, but looking at the photos again later, I am voting keep. I do have booties just like this that I love, but my coloring is different from yours. On the other hand these do seem like you. If you do decide in the end you are not sure of the color and want to try another, I can really recommend the similar booties made by Ash. I have them in black and they are SO comfortable after a couple of wears because the suede is thick/sturdy but soft and molds to your foot. The heel has enough height but is highly walkable.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

I much prefer this color on you. I think these work great with your style and as always if they are comfortable I say KEEP.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Love it! It flatters the legs. I want a pair too!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

They look good to me! Looks like we have been searching for a similar color in our booties:). I also love the red but I have to say these work to my eye so much better, particularly given how you epwant to wear them. Love them!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I love them both - red and taupe! Can you keep both? We live in Seattle and you can wear them year round.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I loved the red but I love these too! They will be great for bare legs looks. My taupe boots are around this color and also not the right nude tone for my skin, but for some reason they work fine and are very versatile. I find that the little darker distressing at the toe (which it looks like these have as well although it is not as pronounced as on my boots) actually works as a kind of bookending lite with dark hair.

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

My 2 cents: I think you'll wear the heck out of 'em and they look great on you.

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

I really love these on you! I have the same ones and can't wait for the cooler weather to start wearing them. However, I like the red ones too, so I would keep them both if you can.

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

I like them a lot with the very casual shorts outfit...less so with the dress. I can see you wearing these like crazy with denim.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

These looks great Aida and so many have found them to be comfortable. But I also loved the red ones. Like Angie, can you keep both?

  • replied 11 years ago

Aida, after seeing you in person, I would NOT say that your skin has a lot of yellow in it (esp compared to my sallow tone). This is a great low-contrast color for you, and fits in perfectly with your boots and shorts style. KEEP! :)

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Well I love these on you with both the dress and shorts and are certainly keepers. If you are not feeling the red they should go back. You can't argue with a bajillion after all.

  • Claudia replied 11 years ago

I like these booties more for their versatility than the red after seeing you wear both pairs. I also like them with dresses/skirts and shorts as you've styled them. Keep!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

THANK YOU all for the great feedback on these two pairs of booties! The "beige" are indeed a warm taupe, which works nicely as low contrast with my skin but as many of you pointed out it's not a true nude. For a casual boot like this, I think that's perfectly fine and maybe next year I'll find my cream summer boots in something dressier.

Regarding the red, I'm going to call Nordstrom tomorrow and see if I can get the price adjusted to what I bought the beige for (almost half the price). If they can do that, I'll keep and wear with tights in the fall. If not I'll return and save the money for NAS :)

Hannah, YES! Thanks for articulating so well what my worry was with the red since I want these specifically for bare legs. No need to worry about sounding creepy, because really, that just illustrates the point perfectly :) (Also, yay! Welcome back from HK ^^)

Amy, my heels do slip when I walk. This pair is definitely the right size for my foot so I just figured it was due to my very narrow heels, as they do that with many of my shoes as well.

Christy and Kyle, thanks for the input regarding the dress pairing. I am wondering if maybe it's because the boots are super duper casual and have a strong boho flair, and that particular dress doesn't? I will keep that in mind when styling.

Claire, good point. I too wouldn't call my skin yellow, I'm just always worried my camera makes my skin look too rosy and cool-toned! Maybe it's just my monitor.
