Orange linen shirt, take two

So after the general consensus in my previous post about the JCrew orange linen shirt was that I size up, I did as suggested and ordered the next size up. It feels SUPER DUPER big and boxy, so I am really looking forward to it draping better once the linen softens up (this was straight out of the package). The second button there isn't gaping, it's actually unbuttoned but the linen is still too stiff for the collar to lay open. And the back isn't tight at all, unlike how it was with the smaller size.

This size was final sale (the smaller is returnable), so hopefully this fit meets approval. I have a hunch that it will :) So ladies, what do we think of this size?

Love it! The fit looks perfect to me! Slouchy and relaxed but still polished.

  • missvee replied 11 years ago

Yes I think it's a winner. As you say it will soften and drape a bit once you get wearing it. I don't like linen unless it has a bit of ease in it, so I'd say this was just about perfect.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yes, the drape of the back looks much better in this size. As the sculptural creases set in, it'll probably look even nicer.

Gorgeous! Love the colour on you and the fit is brilliant for linen. And I have to say again how STUNNING your hair is at this length Aida!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

It looks SO MUCH BETTER, Aida. A 10!!

Funny! My linen shirt is boxier than this fit and I don't think of it as boxy. In fact, I think of your shirt as quite tailored - but not form fitting.

  • Abie replied 11 years ago

Huge thumbs up. The back of this one looks so nice!

  • Kate replied 11 years ago

The fit is spot on Aida, and not boxy at all.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Woo! I shall wrap up the other size and send it back then :D

Angie, I think I'm just not used to boxy button-up blouses on myself! I have a hard enough time finding things that feel properly tailored between my sway back, small waist, long torso, and high-and-large bum. This feels very straight to me, especially from the front and side. With flowy tops I totally get the waist surrender, but with a tailored type of cut like this I think I just need to get used to it is all :)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I hear you on the high-and-large bum, Aida. I think that's why I love silk shirts so much - none of that annoying bunching in back. FWIW I don't think of this as a boxy fit, either.

This one looks so good! I'm glad you were able to get it because it is great for you. I have this one in blue, and it's even more roomy, but somehow it still feels fitted. That might be because it's shaped so well and therefore doesn't seem boxy, at least to my eye.

Love this on you, Aida. I missed the first post with the smaller size, but I can definitely say this one looks fab. And this COLOR!! It's so great for you!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

LOVE this on you. Color. Fit. Everything. See if they'll give you a price adjustment since they are extra 40% off today.

  • replied 11 years ago

I did not see the smaller one but this one looks great. The looser fit is more current.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks ladies, glad to hear more confirmation on this being the right size, it really helps!

Rae, you know... as an IT/hourglass my thought is that because it makes me feel like a box (rectangle) therefore it's boxy. Hmm I suppose that isn't correct?

JJ, thanks for the heads up! I'll try giving them a call about it.

  • replied 11 years ago

It looks so much better than the other one Aida, I love it.

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

A million times better! Thumbs up!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

    Perfect!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

The fit on this one is perfect!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

This looks great! I'm chuckling a bit at your definition of boxy (if it makes you *feel* boxy). To me, boxy means the garment is shaped like a square or square-ish, so when you put it on, it falls straight down from the armpits, obscuring the shape underneath. It doesn't have any shaping at all, and doesn't hug anywhere (not waist, not hips, not bum). It might drape a bit, depending on the fabric, but in general it's a really straight cut.

Oy! I am screaming with delight here!! SO FAB!!!

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

Well, it LOOK divine, and I love it with those SHOES. (-: GREAT color on you.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

    Another thumbs up!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

As Goldilocks would say, this one is *just* right. And no it is not boxy, Aida --- look at that waspish waist in the back view!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thanks, ladies! I'll cut those tags off when I get home, try to get that linen to soften up quickly, and probably wear later this week :D

Jonesy, thank you for the boxy explanation! I figured after the last post that my "definition" of boxy wasn't quite right since no one else was seeing what I was ;) I will have to readjust that idea in my head.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

    I like it! Well done.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

    Now we are talking! LOVE!
You can try to wash it and rinse with vinegar to soften. I know vinegar makes towels softer so maybe it will do the same for linen?
I imagine this shirt with your new patterned pants (altered of course) - super!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Love, love, love this on you!! It looks amazing with the grey jeans you are wearing. and your hair is adorable!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Love this! This size is perfect. Aida I am with some others here as i just don't see this as a 'boxy' style. It's kind of semi fitted as it still reveals some shape. The linen creates a somewhat tailored yet relaxed look at the same time. I think this is incredibly flattering on you. Is this the same as Angie's pink one?

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

THIS ONE IS PERFECT! It really doesn't look boxy, Aida. It looks feminine and tailored but just body skimming. Maybe try knotting the waist with this one if you don't feel feminine enough.

  • replied 11 years ago

Yay, and I LOVE the new 'do! I saw your earlier thread but I'm not sure I commented. I think the cut is genius for you and I love the defined curls!

The blouse is super, Aida. It looks pretty straight from the front, but it still hints at your great hourglass shape from the back. It is not too big at ALL. Keep and love. Maybe sleep in it a few times to loosen it up. (JK) ;)

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

Yay! Gorgeous! Perfect! I wish I could order this shirt without getting financially robbed by VAT etc

  • morethanbeige replied 11 years ago

    This looks perfect!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

It looks great on you and that color is really beautiful! It will soften with a little time.

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

I think this size is perfect, Aida, not too boxy at all, just exactly right. And such a splendid colour on you. I love the entire outfit, with the grey skinnies and animal print pumps. And your new do!!! I didn't have a chance to comment on your other thread, but my word, it is stunning, Aida!!

  • replied 11 years ago

I missed the first one, but the fit here looks absolutely perfect. And I adore this color on you!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

You ladies are the best, I really appreciate all the feedback! I am feeling a lot better about the fit of this shirt now, and I'm sure after the first wear I'll be 100% comfortable with the looseness :D

Sveta, thanks for the vinegar tip. I'll look that up and see if it works for linen!

Deborah, yep this is the same linen shirt as Angie's pink one (it was one of her tops picks a little while back).

Claire and Inge, thanks for the hair compliments <3

  • Mellllls replied 11 years ago
