Long walk shorts (fit question)

I bought these longer walk shorts (not really sure what this type of short is named?) recently, and I love the wide-leg vibe they have. They barely hit the top of my calf just as it's curving in, so I am still concerned that they may be too long for short me. Photo #1 shows them with heels (looks best, to me), photo #2 shows them with flats (not sure about this), photo #3 shows my knee and calf curve for reference.

The material is heavier, so I wouldn't wear them when it's truly warm out (so.. basically as long as it's below 80F), and would also like the option of wearing them with boots (never done that before). Would love to know what you all think of the length and fit of these, and if you have any styling ideas that would also be fun to hear. Thanks!

they are definitely better with the heels, but I'm still wondering if they could be another half inch shorter. This is such a hard spot to get just the right length.

I definitely vote heels and I agree with Queen Mum; they may look a bit better shorter!

I would love to see these with boots - I have seen ladies do that style and I would loooove to do it, but not brave enough!

(ps: you look darling in blue! I'm jealous!)

I love all versions with heels. I'd prefer shorter with flats and with boots as well. I tried boots with clams (a la Angie) and it seemed to work better (for me) when the opening is more tapered. Fit looks great--you have an adorable figure!

I agree they look much better with the heels. They look great!

Thanks for the input! Seems my hunch that they need to be shorter was right, bummer. Angie has a post about this type of short, and all of her example photos are much shorter (and less wide, I think). Perhaps just below the knee would be optimal?

Kelly - I haven't tried these with boots yet, but I see your point about wearing more tapered shorts with that look.

I think you're spot on, Aida. My Kut from the Kloth walk shorts are right at or above the knee.

I'm reluctant to move these above the knee because they're so wide, I've a feeling they'll have the same look like flared pants worn too short if that makes sense. Are your walk shorts wide like this?

  • kellygirl replied 13 years ago

Close--they're pretty wide. They were part of my "party outfit." I'm not sure you can tell from the photo although I did post them in this WIW too. They are shown with the burgundy top. Yours are cuffed and slightly looser--perhaps this pair should be reserved for heels. They do look quite excellent that way. I hope Angie chimes in : )

ETA: I'm always so tickled when my links work. It's a small miracle.

I love the length as is with heels!!!

They need to be shorter for flats. But let's seem them with boots too.

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks for chiming in Angie! The bulk of my shoes are heels, so I wouldn't be against leaving these for heels and getting a shorter pair for flats. I will try them with a couple other pairs of heels as well as boots and post for further feedback tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the help, this is a new type of short for me :)

    Love them with heels!
And look at your tiny waist! I'm envious :-)

I have some shorts exactly like that and had the same questions.I wore them once http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....tg-formula
with black boots and got great reviews.
Thank you for raising the question.

Aida, I like them as is with a pair of your awesome heels. These are great!!!

  • Aida replied 13 years ago

Thanks Lavinia, Celia, and Heather! Since the feedback seems unanimous on the "wear with heels" front, I'm leaning away from shortening these and just reserve for heels. I didn't get a chance to try with boots this morning since I overslept (oops!) but hopefully I can try when I get home!

Celia, thanks for the link to your outfit! Great visual for me :)

The heels make a huge difference here. Wear them with heels and a patterned silk blouse *dreamy sigh*
