I started a style blog!

For the past 1.75 years I've taken photos of my outfits and posted them online to the site "Weardrobe" (which just takes a photo, catalogs items, and a very brief bit of text). It was a fabulous way for me to track my growth, see how I've worn things, etc. but certainly not a true "style blog". A few of you may have noticed I'd removed the link from my profile; they were apparently bought by Google and the entire site taken down. There wasn't much notification, just one email that I hadn't caught, so I noticed my site was gone while in LA (not the best time, I was very sad). Upon return Heather suggested I take the plunge and start a Real, Actual Blog. So I did! It can be found here:

http://aidascloset.tumblr.com

I'm still working out layout kinks, post kinks, all that. But it's basically in final form, if a week behind; hoping to get everything up this weekend and from there start posting outfits daily. I wanted to share my exciting venture with you all :D

(Thank you thank you Heather and Ornella for all your wonderful feedback on the site!!)

This post is also published in the youlookfab forum. You can read and reply to it in either place. All replies will appear in both places.

Looks fantastic, Aida! You have such great outfits and the photography is great. I will be following for sure. Do you have someone take your pics or do you use a self timer? How do you get them to look so nice? My photos are horrible because I am taking them of myself in the mirror with no flash indoors with a little point and shoot. The color is all off balance. I never seem to have the time to go outdoors, set up a tripod and camera, etc. etc. And I don't want to make hubby upset by constantly asking for pics. Do you have a photo tips post on your blog?

  • Freckles replied 12 years ago

Wow, what a great set up you have over there. Congratulations Aida, you will surely have many a follower who includes other people than us YLF addicts to your style.

I spent about 30 minutes looking at your blog - I LOVE IT! It is clear and concise - the pictures are crisp and asthetically just right. I really like reading your thought process for each outfit. Also, found myself smiling at your references to your L.A. YLF weekend because I was there - I knew what you were talking about! I've always liked your style Aida, but it has been truly a joy to watch how you have defined, re-fined and honed it down to it being a true expression of who you are. Your blog just seems to be a natural step in your process. Got it bookmarked!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

    Thank you ladies :D

Natalie, I take all my own photos (except on very rare occasions I ask my husband to) using the self timer on my little point-and-shoot, and set it on a flat surface outside rather than hauling my tripod/DSLR out there. I don't have any photo tips up on my blog yet, but I do plan to write a little mini-series of posts about it. One thing you can do to improve your colors: If you go to the setting for "white balance", it's most likely on "auto"; select "custom", point it at a white wall where you're standing, and follow the on screen instructions for how to set the balance. You could also get your tripod set to the height you like, and stash it somewhere near where you take photos out of sight so you can easily pop it out to take hands-free photos and then hide it away again :)

Marley, thank you so much! "Clear and concise" is exactly what I'm going for. I've been enjoying writing about the thought process, I usually just keep all that floating in my head ;)

OMG Aida! I. AM. SO. PROUD. OF. YOU! What a great website!

I'm so sorry you lost all of your outfit pictures from your previous site, but I'm glad that it spurred you on to create something of your very own.

Like the others, I love being able to get in on the thought process that creates these beautiful outfits, just like I loved watching you put together outfits in L.A. I always thought people with great style just pulled one choice out of the closet, put it on, and it was perfect! Nice to know that some work goes into it and see *how* to do it!

    You go, girl!
