Hello again, dear YLF!

Hi everyone! I am back from a much needed end-of-year/crazy-holidays break. I've missed you gals! *waves* I have been doing fine, quite a bit busier than usual these days. I'm taking on a heavier workload this year, and while that's good for the bank (and the evolution of my wardrobe!) it does mean that I won't be able to respond to as many threads on the forum as I have in the past. And while I dearly wish I could go through the last two months of the forum to read up on everything I've missed, unfortunately that's not possible. So! On that note, I would love to request from everyone:

1) Tell me how you've been and what you've been up to!
2) If you have 'em, some links to threads you'd like me to read, whether it's outfits you're especially fond of (hey I can always use inspiration) both of yours and of others, and interesting discussions. What better way to catch up than with a curated selection of everyone's favorite threads from the past two months? :)

I'd also like to post my outfits from the past two months to have them in my YLF blog, but realize that this would be some serious photo heavy post spam (probably divided into 4-6 posts or so). Would also like thoughts on that idea, and if that'd be OK with you gals. It'll be a whole lotta me -_-

*HUGS TO ALL*

(And of course a couple of bonus photos! 1) What I wore to the Seattle meetup back in Dec., and 2) a cute sign I saw in Leavenworth over xmas which, of course, immediately made me think of Angie ^^)

Ummm, please photo spam us. I love your hair and your sweater and your whole outfit and I want more! I will let others point you to threads - I will put in my greedy demand!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Hugs back! We missed you too! No need to catch up on anything - just blend right back into the forum and blog like a duck to water.

Thanks for thinking of me when you saw that cute sign. It's making me all fuzzy inside. xo

You know I loved that outfit :)

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Great outfit, and what a cute sign! Nice to see you back!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Yay - Aida's back! Sounds like you've been crazy busy. I hope things have settled down to at least a comfortable pace for you.

Your hair looks amazing shorter like this - just gorgeous. How are you liking it? And of course, your outfit is all kinds of fantastic. Love how the shorts, tights and boots echo the stripes in your sweater.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Glad to see you back. I have been here a bit less, too, but noticed your absence. Post away!!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I'm not sure if you've seen this one - I wouldn't want to miss it:)

Aida! So glad to see you!!!

Please spam us with photos :)

You look great in this outfit.

  • Mamapicklejuice replied 11 years ago

Looking forward to seeing your outfit posts, but the post/link request, I dunno...sounds like a lot of homework to me! One thing I love about YLF is that there's NO expectation that you should prioritize YLF above all else, and that if "real life gets in the way," you're just welcomed back with open arms...YLF moves fast, and bumping up two month old threads seems to run counter to that. Just my .02. Don't feel guilty about taking a break - we all need to from time to time! :)

  • pil replied 11 years ago

Glad to see you back, Aida. I've wondered where you've been! Count me as another who would like to see your inspired outfits.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Great to see you back - we missed you! And I love your sweater.

Show us your outfits when you get time, and don't worry about catch up. That's how it is here - we have to ebb and flow!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Aida, I missed you big time! I am so glad you are back!!!! <waving>
Waiting eagerly for your outfit 'spam'...

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

Great timing. I was looking to see if your blog had been updated not long ago. Welcome back. I look forward to seeing the photo spam.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Welcome back! I have to say I was a bit worried until I heard Una was going to see you on her way home. I don't have very much because of the OT thread you already saw. Here are a couple you might get a kick out of from my neck of the woods:

1- DH photobombing me after 1920s NYE party.
2 - New boots and new combo for me.
3 - My shameface caught on camera when a neighbor walked in on my taking outfit photos.

Please do post your outfits - that is the kind of spam I like!

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

Hi Aida! I've been doing capsule dressing, big time. My Navy/Black and Violet/Purple/Blush capsules have been getting a lot of play, and I've secretly been working on a Yellow/Grey capsule for spring!

Good to see you and congrats on the new work. Hope it's fulfilling!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Aw thanks ladies! You sure know how to make a gal feel welcomed back in a big way <3 I will start posting the outfits this coming weekend and try to make it as uninvasive as possible ;)

Shannon, I cut my hair up even shorter than the initial cut just before that photo above was taken! It's longer again now (but still certainly short, still above the shoulders) and I am debating letting it grow long in front for spring or to keep it shorter like it was here. Either way, I am still having a lot of fun with the style! It's been quite nice going back to short hair after wearing it very long for several years.

Caro, thanks so much for the "best of" link, it was SUCH fun to look through!! YLF is certainly home to amazingly stylish and wonderful ladies ^^ I just loved the first outfit you posted there, with the burgundy drapey dress/tunic. Gorgeous!

Rae, that first photo!! Both of your expressions... so good :D And you look so glamorous! With the shorter 'do, that outfit has some great spunky 20s vibes to it. #2 is like, long over long over long. Brilliant! Love the outfit in #3 (a scarf!!) .. Silly neighbor, taking out the trash and messing up your sweet outfit photo!

Jenava, oooh violet/purple/blush sounds like a fabulous capsule! You got the blush moto at NAS yes? I can see that working with just about everything in your wardrobe :) And I can't wait to see your yellow/gray spring capsule, I don't think I've seen you in yellow before!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

So good to have you back. Your outfits always inspire. Bring them on!

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

Good to see you - we did miss you! Glad it was just normal work/life stuff that was keeping you busy. Looking forward to seeing more Aida posts.

  • qfbrenda replied 11 years ago

I missed you around here! But I totally understand. I don't have favorite outfits to show you because I haven't had time for WIWs lately. But my pinterest board is going well and I'm happy with how my style is going.

I look forward to seeing your pics!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

You have been so missed! Please update us with your fabulous WIWs! And remember, it's totally OK to respond to a thread with a light and polite one-liner -- everyone is busy and it does take time to craft those perfectly worded, thoughtful comments. Frank one-liners also welcome, at least on my threads. :-)

We closed our restaurant for a few months so I'm pretty relaxed right now, although I still have a ton of projects. I recently went to LA and saw Rae and Mary K and Runnerchick who was visiting from the East Bay. I really love meeting YLFers IRL!

A really great thread to visit would be Angie's annual "post your favorite outfits."

Also Angie started some great UWP threads:

Welcome back Aida! Things are warm and well in the desert SW. I'm having fun with a very small capsule wardrobe for winter. Can't wait to start shopping for summer clothes! I'll link you to any threads I think of as we go along.

  • Jules replied 11 years ago

I'd love to see your photo spam, I pinned some of your spring looks last time you were around (re: discussion of wide leg jeans which I also wore a lot last spring pre ylf) and would love to see your fall/winter looks. As an aside I like seeing a lot of looks at once from one person, it helps me to put it in context as I figure out my style persona and goals.

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

Hey, Aida. So glad to see you back and as always, stylish. You are going to be my upcoming haircut muse--just thought I'd let you know. :)

  • replied 11 years ago

Welcome back, I have missed you!

  • kimlee replied 11 years ago

Aida - Welcome back! I have just returned YLF as well. I would love to see your photos from the past 2 months. I have often been inspired by your looks and would love to see what you've been wearing.

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

Yeah Aida! I am excited to see your WIW and love your suggestions for improvement. My biggest style journey point is starting to think of myself as an arty eclectic as opposed to a modern classic. I always feel best when my outfit is a little eccentric or funky so this is my big style breakthrough in a sentence.

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Aida, I've been thinking about you and missing you! Glad you are semi-back, and I bet the extra work is fun because you are so creative.

I went outside the box in some OTK cobalt boots (didn't keep 'em though), and that was my favorite thing lately. It kinda ripped me into a new comfort zone, and I love that kind of change so much!
    http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ng-n-leggy

I soooo look forward to more outfits, your shorts/sweater/tights/boots is drool-worthy.

Another thread or series of threads you would like a lot is the "descriptor" madness we've been going through lately. It has spawned the Urban Prince, Urban Warrior Knight, Mage of the Realm, Earthy Urban Chic, Urban Pretty, Eclectic Artiste, Country Lass, Bohemian Bombshell, and I'm probably getting all of these wrong, but it has been fun to explore our styles with WORDS in addition to visuals. Kind of like trying to describe a font with words only. Difficult but illuminating. It's the last link CocoLion posted, so I am being redundant, very, very redundant. ;~)

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Hey Stranger! So glad to hear from you! I can't wait to see your backlog. We need a good dose of Aida fabulousness!

ps: Thanks for your comment on my other thread. I didn't want to bump it up but the poncho is a hand knit. I'm in poncho love these days :) Pattern is super easy if you knit. It's the second one I've made from the same pattern--I'll provide a link.

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

It's so great to see you again, Aida! You've been missed!!

    *waving at my sweater twin*

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Thank you ladies! I feel better about posing my backlogged outfits now, I was a little worried about the spam. Will work on getting those up soon!

Brenda, good to hear! I have noticed a bit more urban-ness creeping into your Pinterest outfit inspiration board. Looking forward to seeing how that manifests :)

Denise and Julie, thanks for the pointers on the moniker threads! They were a really fun read, my goodness you all had quite the brilliant brain storming session. Personally, I identify most with Denise's description "Bi-coastal Urban with one foot in 80s NYC and the other in 70s California" with a healthy dose of punk thrown in there, but I certainly seem to come away looking far more polished and less rocker than you Denise! That is one of my primary style goals for the year actually, get my rocker influences more visible to my style.

Denise, hope you have been enjoying the time off. I am sure there's always plenty to keep busy with! Your recent meetup must have been a blast :D

Claire, it's been unusually cold down there right? I was in San Diego a couple weeks ago and it was in the 40s, SOOOO cold feeling. I heard AZ was down in the 30s??

Nancy, aww that's sweet! Are you thinking of doing an inverted/angled bob? Let me know if you want any close-ups of my various short cuts I've had the past several months.

Sarah, that's some great style insight, and quite the swing. I must say I've always seen a good dose of whimsy, boho, and arty in your style as opposed to a pure Modern Classic. Looking forward to seeing where this style shift takes you!

Julie, WOW those boots are too fun!! High fives for stepping out of your comfort zone, and I can't wait to see your OTK boots when they find you! As for a descriptor, waaaay back when I had come up with "urban/punk, euro-chic, 70s vintage" and plan to stick to that :)

Kelly, you made that incredible poncho!?? Such skills lady! I do not knit, but if I did I would totally want to make one of those. I have really enjoyed seeing your knitting projects this year.

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

    Looking cool as always :)

Descriptor madness was a lot of fun. "Name your style."

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Glad to read you again! Great colour blocking outfit, with the cloour blocking effect continuing in the legs also. Love how the boots and top of the sweater bookend each other. Stylish and elegant as always.

And your hair! Beautiful! That is such a lovely cut for you, which completes your style to perfection.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Thanks Rachy and Krish!

Rachy, it did look like a lot of fun :} Unfortunately, I apparently like to make it too complicated on myself to attach proper descriptors... in that I use three different methods to track all of my style indicators (key overarching styles, a list of "loves", and a set of influential decades) -_- As long as there's an element of rock in there, I'm happy I guess!

Krish, thanks! I wish this sweater came in other colors, I really love the very wide blocking bands and the slouchy drape. Maybe next year ;)
