A few WIW recently!

Hello ladies, it's been a while, eh? ^^ Thought I'd post a few recent outfits with a handful of new items (coral sweater, plaid bomber, yellow blouse, navy pompom) and plenty of oldies-but-goodies. If there's no coat in a photo I wore my charcoal plaid coat, don't worry!

I've been tweaking my style descriptors ever so slowly the past year or two and am finally feeling just about sorted (profile updated). Not adding many new pieces means it's mostly involved being stricter when styling my existing pieces so they fit the newer direction -- stern but consistent reminders that just because things can be worn together doesn't mean that I have to do it, and just because I liked a combo a year (or two or three) ago doesn't mean that it's pushing me forward now. It does feel nice to have a couple new pieces to work with again, though, especially since F/W is my dominant season and dressing for it is NOT my favorite.

Been taking photos sporadically, most often on the first wear of an outfit I really like so I have an easy reference for later repeats. I will try to post a few of them here and there :)

As always comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome!

(EDIT: Eep! Giant blob of Finds. Too bad I can't set it to "small" ><)

Aida, I have missed your WIWs! So lovely to "see" you again. Love your point about taking your style in a new direction with the pieces you already have - it's so true and something I tend to forget. Wearing pieces in a different way can fell just as refreshing as a new look and is often more helpful in honing your style.

I adore that dress on you!! And the jacket you wear over the joggers is sublime :)

  • Brooklyn replied 6 years ago

Really lovely to see you again Aida. You are looking as fabulous as ever. My favourites are photos 2 and 4 (the first and third outfit). The white, mustard and caramel toned colour combination in the third outfit is just sublime.

  • Elle replied 6 years ago

Wonderful to see you post again.  I love the way your style is evolving. My favorites are #2 and #4 - the colors look great on you.  And your hair looks amazing

  • Sal replied 6 years ago

Lovely to see your looks again.

You look great    Is longer lines/less layering part of the change in direction?

My favourite is the third outfit - the colours and proportions are gorgeous on you.  I also like 1 and 2 a lot as well.

  • Aida replied 6 years ago

Thanks ladies! The yellowy outfit has become an instant favorite already. I also wear it with the pale aqua jeans and sometimes with tall brown slouchy boots, but I like it best as pictured here.

Roxanna, most definitely. It can also help to tell what is missing/what direction to go without needing to spend a lot up front. The trick is remembering which previously-favorite combos to stop wearing (or what the new tweak to them is) so that it feels like there's progress being made in the new direction. At least for me!

Brooklyn, thank you! Your description of the colors in #3 makes me want to sub in all food things: cream, custard, and caramel. Sounds yummy ^^

Elle, thanks! And extra thanks re the hair. After two years of major struggle when my brilliant stylist moved away (including a pretty legit mullet), she actually recently started working once a week near me so I get my most fabulous hair feeling again :D

Sal, longer lines: yes, especially in the context of adding movement which I'm very into the idea of (particularly if I can get both movement and texture). Layering: kinda-sorta? I keep noting (and re-noting) that I would like to go back to more layering and then when I'm actually getting dressed ... I just don't do it. It takes a lot to even put on a scarf or jacket! I'm not sure if it's a little minimal holdover from the previous set of descriptors (Minimally Maximal + Urban Glam) or what but I haven't been pushing it too hard ;)

These are great! I love the dress and all your boots. Also the rich colors of the pink sweater look great on you. Your hair is looking good too.

  • JAileen replied 6 years ago

It's been so long! You still look fab, btw. A couple of items I really liked were from Target - who knew? I really love the dress, but also the plaid peacoat, the coral sweater, and the plaid bomber.

I found the first photo montage really helpful for getting your current style. Interesting to read about your process/journey. Needless to say you are looking fab and very Aida as ever. It always seemed to me that you had a firm idea of where you are and what you are aiming for, and it still strikes me that way, although I can sense an evolution. I haven't been on the forum a lot so I have probably missed steps in your style journey. Also I checked your profile and I see you are a font developer, so now I know I can ask you my nerdy font questions when they come up :)

  • skylurker replied 6 years ago

My first impression is a more streamlined style, and the glitz of glam rock toned down a notch. Still a very good mix of casual, pretty, and rock - I can’t describe it well - but it looks very authentic.
My favourites are #4-1 : the light coloured sixties coat and tall boots, so pretty and elegant. And #7, love the proportions and cool of your jogger suit, and the black&white patterns.

  • rachylou replied 6 years ago

Your style *has* evolved, birthday twin! That’s so interesting. But definite continuity. Ok, now I have to read your updated profile... ;)

  • Jane replied 6 years ago

The plaid bomber is great, as is the yellow blouse. It sounds like you have been doing a lot of thinking and you've got great results to show for it.

  • MsMaven replied 6 years ago

Love every outfit. Something's happening here! I especially love the dress with jacket in #6, but it is hard to say which one I like best. If I'd read your style statements first, they wouldn't have made sense to me, but photos first and yes, I like the direction you've taken.

  • replied 6 years ago

So great to see you again Aida ! Despite some style tweaking , you’re still the queen of colour , boots and interesting accessories .

  • Beth Ann replied 6 years ago

Good to see you Aida!  I love the way you're the boss of your clothes.  You also remind me that style changes can be slow and steady, and they don't mean leaving behind everything you wore before!

You looking vibrant and chic, Aida.  That's a terrific bright sweater and I envy your boot collection!

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

There you are! You know you have style when you find a gorgeous sweater like that at Target. Wow, love the bright colors on you - also the JCrew coat is gorgeous. The white booties are fab with the simple blouse and jeans. Love the black and white looks too. And your gorgeous hair is the first thing I noticed!

  • Bijou replied 6 years ago

I have missed your amazing style. You really know what suits you and are brilliant at putting together a variety of looks, that have a consistent style.

  • marianna replied 6 years ago

I just logged on after a long absence and what a treat to see these gorgeous outfits. You always know how to put together the most interesting and pretty outfits.

  • pil replied 6 years ago

Fabulous as usual, Aida! Can’t put my finger on why, but I love #3. Maybe I’m missing some details in the photos but do you ever wear the plaid bomber with the black and white dress? I also adore that cream coat!

  • kellygirl replied 6 years ago

Squee! Christmas has come early. Such a treat to see you, Aida. You are looking as lovely and sleek as ever! You take such care in the details--each outfit is like a perfect package! I'm hard pressed to pick a fave but the colors in 2,3,4 are so pretty on you. Love the boho vibe of the yellow blouse. SO fun! Happiest of holidays, my friend!

  • replied 6 years ago

I am living your yellow top too!
Your haircut looks great. I love the shaggy look.

  • Diana replied 6 years ago

It's so great to see you again, Aida!  As usual, I'm loving all your outfits and I'm excited to see where your new style direction takes you.  #3 is my favorite!  That yellow top is lovely and I love the color scheme on you.

  • lyn67 replied 6 years ago

Such a treat to see you again, Aida!

Love your new coral asymmetric hem sweater, the plaid bomber, and aditionm of flutter sleeved top in yellow-- all other so fab, too-but my fave is your look with the dress in nr.6!

Otherwise, I can so relate to what you said " just because things can be worn together doesn't mean that I have to do it, ..........and just because I liked a combo a year (or two or three) ago doesn't mean that it's pushing me forward now!"
I sometimes fell in the same rabit hole of thinking what once (upon a time:-)) was good, will be as good today...and soooo not always true!:-) great observation!

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

ALL FABULOUS as always, but #2 is my KILLER fave. Gorgeous palette.

  • Aida replied 6 years ago

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments, what a treat <3

Scarlet, hah that sounds good ^^ I don't do much work on Latin/English fonts but if I can help with something I'm happy to try.

Skylurker, your description makes me very happy! I am never sure any of my rock influences come through so it's fun to hear that they do since I am not drawn to the typical "fashion rock" stuff. Casual+Pretty+Rock is basically what I'm after; a little less glitzy glam rock, yes, with stronger bohemian leanings (different kind of glitzy glam?) which probably accounts for the more casual nature.

MsMaven, yes the mix of descriptors can be a bit disjointed on their own. One of the issues of having an eclectic dressing style!

Pil, I haven't tried the bomber with the sweater dress but I'll give it a shot! It's a longer jacket than the olive one I wore here so we'll see how the proportions work.

Angie, that's the sweater I was mis-remembering as orange/red! Still pretty fun. I realllyyyy like how it plays with cognac :D

  • Kari replied 6 years ago

Aida!!! So happy to see you here. I actually was thinking “pretty rock” looking through this. There’s a softness but a FUN quirkiness (helped from your awesome locks!)
My particular favorites are the dress, and the yellow top with the taupe boots.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

YES, Aida. I recognized it right away. The cognac is like an muted orange, isn't it. Yummy together.

  • Helena replied 6 years ago

So gorgeous Aida ... You have such an amazing way of looking both high-fashion and comfortably real in the same outfit. I love seeing your outfits.

  • harmonica replied 6 years ago

Great to see you and your amazing style again! You look fab as ever! Impossible to choose a favorite.

  • Lisa replied 6 years ago

What a treat, an Aida lookbook!  Your style has shifted and these sour colors are really lovely on you.  Great job updating your style!

  • Aida replied 6 years ago

    Thank you ladies!

Kari, yay I loved reading your description too :D Sometimes I feel like the details I focus on are too particular or associative in a way that only occurs to me. So it's always nice to get a little validation that what I'm going for actually, you know, comes through. I'll take "pretty rock" any day! The yellow blouse reminds me of you and all the fabulous print blouses you find ^^

Angie. YES. And I just want to pair cognac with everything these days.

TG, thank you very much. That is a big goal of mine, to balance both Fashion (with the capital F) AND the practicality my fairly casual life requires.
